This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (First Week of December 2004)

I guess it's back to work for the last push of the year.  Late tomorrow I'll be reviewing the appointments I have scheduled for the week and setting aside prep time to be ready.  This month I'll focus with prospecting by day and all proposals, and order docs will be created before 8AM or after 5PM. I need to cram as many productive hours as possible for December.

Enjoy these awesome threads from 15 years ago this week!

Xerox Is Dreaming In Color

Canon Inc. (CAJ ) is No. 1 in mass-market copiers that handle both color and black and white. Ricoh (RICOY ), Toshiba (TOSBF ), and Konica Minolta are competitive, too. And Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ ) hopes to move its corporate clients to multipurpose office machines with brilliant color palettes. "Color's the name of the game these days," says Peter A. Crean, a veteran Xerox scientist. The stampede into color office gear is driven in part by the explosion of radiant Web pages, graphics-rich

Can HP Protect Its Printer Kingdom?

digital copiers. So far, HP says it has gained a couple of percentage points of market share, but the fledgling product portfolio hasn't been there to support more. Although HP launched a new multifunction digital copier in November, it's a different business than printers, often with unique sales channels and distinct buyers inside of companies. "HP's performance has been mixed at best," says Ursula M. Burns, president of business group operations at Xerox. "Their focus is uneven and their

Xerox Technology: Copying Pages from Bound Books

from the surface to look warped. There have been some specialized and costly attempts to correct for this. At one time, for instance, Xerox sold a copier with an angled edge and articulated cover so people could copy pages without cracking books all the way open. And another solution is dedicated book scanners with height sensors, so the book lies face up, and scanning takes place from above it. Instead of redesigning the machine to accommodate books, however, Xu and Loce decided to build the

Savin C2820 and pdf's

jswinberlin ·
I've noticed when we print pdf's on the Savin C2820 the text is sometimes blurry. The print is bold and even has a raised texture (which my service supervisor said is really the result of too much toner). Has anyone else had similiar problems? This was the result using the RPCS driver on a 6 page color brochure. When I used the PCL driver it was very, very slow to RIP and the color was totally wacky, washed out in pink.

Re: Scaling, Can this be accomplished?

bandit41076 ·
function for D to 11 x 17 - same issue as above - extra white space, but image to scale. **As long as you reduce ARC to ARC or ANSI to ANSI, no issues. It is when you try to reduce ARC to ANSI or vice versa that you have issues. 11 x 17 and 30 x 42 are NOT ARC or ANSI, so always extra white space. Highlighting area you want to print and saving as a new doc will work as John outlined.

Scripts

jswinberlin ·
Every good salesperson has a script, be it rehearsed or not. As Jeffrey Gitomer might say a "30 second personal commercial". I'm curious, what are some of the things that others are saying to get people's ears to perk and their doors to open? For example, one I might use is: We help businesses streamline their workflow by increasing productivity when it comes to presenting, storing, and sharing their information. How effective would you say your office is at managing their paperwork in an

Medical Manager

jswinberlin ·
Does anyone know if Ricoh Family Group products will print from this vertical market software? There are a lot of local medical offices using this and Medical Mastermind. My customer is using Medical Manager and it is using Wordperfect as a word processing plug in. I'm going to try to configure printing using the PCL driver b/c I think it will be easier than RPCS and LAN faxing which will be icing on the cake if I can get it done. Any input greatly appreciated.

TWAIN scanning with 1515

I've set up a 1515 on a small LAN with a netgear router. I'm able to ping and print to the mfp. However, when I try to scan I get 12320 error (cannot find scanner). I've turned off personal firewall and allowed an exception in xp for port 1022. Using Smart Device Monitor for Admin I have been able to establish 2 way communication. I've turned up the TWAIN standby time to 30 minutes. Any help greatly appreciated.

Viewing PDF Thumbnails in Plotclient Win

Wallin Team ·
When loading PDF files in Plotclient Win, you are not able to see the thumbnails. However, if you change Plotbase to Manual mode, you can send the job and them view the thumbnails at the controller before releasing them to print. Am I doing something wrong, or does anyone know the reason that you cannot view PDF's in Plotclient Win?

Re: Scaling, Can this be accomplished?

John ·
Jason is correct in how to resize the drawing. It should also be to scale and I would suggest as he said to let them measure with a ruler and confirm. As to highlighting a certain area of the document and printing only that portion, that can be done in the scantools by scanning the document as a tiff and opening up the editor. Once open you can crop and save as the new document which contains only the portion you wish to print. Just go to add an entry in plotbase and find the new tiff file

Try printing the documents in black and see if the letters are raised. If not, then it may be that the letters are processed black.

Since we cannot keep on taking money from the aftermarket department, we look at the total profit picture of the sale and if there is alot of gp in the sale, we take some of it and allocate to service and supplies. Not a perfect solution but it works and keeps competition away until the end of lease since the lease payoff to customer or competitor includes our service/supply money until the end of the term. We are comped
