This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago

sponsored by

The year 2023 will mark 43 years of sales in the office technology space.  I've spent all of my years in down the street (SMB) office technology sales, even when I had my own small dealership for 12 years. I was never the flashy type, never the bull ****ter or one that made promised of gifts and dinners. I just went about my business and exercised a great work ethic to win more than I lost.  I never minded losing because I was able to learn from those losses and always kept the faith that the next win was right around the next corner.

There's  nothing new in sales since I started in 1980, what has changed is the many different levels of communication that are available and creative ways of connecting with your potential client.  It is and always will be about prospecting and the effort that you post up on a daily basis.  Those that prospect the hardest will be those that win!

Enjoy These great Copier Threads from Ten years Ago This Week

Printing to scale on a Savin 2406

·
I recently sold a 2406 to a land surveyor. We are having issues with printing out PDF's that his draftsmen create and then convert to a PDF. The PDF size shows a 22" x 34" when we are able to print it, the scale is off by about 20%. The draftsman can print it to scale on their plotter, and on an Oce, it appears the conversion is the problem. Has anyone else encountered this, if so, did you come up with a fix, or steps the draftsman can use to convert these files correctly so they will print

In fact Kyocera has recently renamed the whole print and software component of the company to Kyocera Document Solutions. So why is this such a big thing? The industry has learned that selling a hardware device that prints and copies is not enough these days. Of course lots of customers

Dead-tree format's demise is slow, steady

Printers are suffering the same fate as hardcover books -- which is not only good for the environment but maybe for your state of mind. In a research note titled "Dead-tree format is dying," Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore illustrated the decline of paper-spewing printers with plenty of stats (see graph below). June quarter results for printer suppliers were "particularly weak as Canon, Epson, Lexmark and Xerox all missed expectations," according to Whitmore. Canon, Epson, Hewlett-Packard

I think this can be very easily misleading. The proliferation of duplex printing over the last 5-10 years has increased significantly, even home printers ship with duplex now. This will impact paper sales at least 6% IMHO. Also a 6% revenue drop? I'm pretty sure the market price for cost per pages (on consumer and business alike) has dropped easily 5% per year. Even if you take into account increases through color it still doesn't add up. So I'm still firmly in the camp that the increased

Traditionally it has been a consumer responsibility to declare out-of-state Internet purchases and pay use tax, an impractical process to date.
