The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago Second Week of November

After 40 years of selling (all copiers) it's been an interesting ride to day the lease.  In January I'll be starting my 41 year in the same industry, in the same state, in the same territory.  Yes, at times I think about retiring and then I'm reminded that I'm not done yet. I still have goals that I'd like to accomplish but not for myself, now it's more about passing the torch of knowledge to others.

Hacking copiers, software focus raised at document management conference

ART POST (GUEST) ·
. For every dollar in solutions sold, a company will sell $4 or $5 of hardware along with it, he said. "A lot of people just don't get that yet," he said. Among the biggest opportunities are document capture and creation, document management and document output management, said Joel Mazza, another InfoTrends/CAP Ventures director. A panel of vendor representatives from Konica Minolta, Ricoh, Sharp Electronics and Toshiba America Business Solutions agreed that solutions are the way to go, but said

Question to Print Audit on PA Forum

ART POST (GUEST) ·
We are currently printing .plt files from Plot Client WIN (Ricoh Software for wide format drawings). With Plot Client WIN we are able to "batch" plt files so they can print as one document to the Aficio 240W. The documents are printing, however PA5 is only billing or tracking the job as one page. Whether we send 2, 10, or 50. It's always one page. We are using the 240W Plotbase printer driver. Can you help?

Re: Secret code 'traces copies'

·
Yes, the code reveals the unit's serial number, and yes this has been around for years. (I remember learning about it in about 1992). At the time I was told that the Goverment threatened to ban the sale of color copiers in the US (counterfeit concerns) unless Canon developed a method to track the serial number of each machine in each copy. This is also why most color machines will not make a copy if they cannot detect their own serial number.

Re: SNMP and Plot Client Win

All good points. I agree that building the Plotbase Server into the machine investment is the way to go. However, Plot Client Win must be installed on client machines to print sets to the wide format system. There doesn't seem to be a way to get around having to turn on SNMP without having an OS CD. It doesn't seem to be necessary to have the original licensed OS cd for the specific computer, but it is necessary to have one for the specific OS. When working with companies that have a good IT

Art, Much like you, I sell for a relatively small dealership. We have taken on e-copy and I am going to be trained on the software (or at least on selling it) next Wednesday. Here's what I don't understand: I would find it incredibly unlikely that my dealership spent $12,000 to take on this product. I am wondering if you have a less than honorable e-copy rep and I will be reading your post at the meeting next Wednesday to the group (that should put the rep on his heels right off the bat). My

Yes, it is possible to assign your own ICC/ICM profile for the copier. In the driver, click the "color management" tab and select "manual". Then assign is the color profile you wish your machine to use. I have to point out here that assigning a profile in this way does little to improve the prints from the machine. Changing profiles can only limit the gamut of the output you will recieve, never make it larger. Let me explain... my 3228 is currently printing 100% of it's possible gamut (total

Re: Question to Print Audit on PA Forum

ART POST (GUEST) ·
Hi Art, Unfortunately, this is a known limitation of Print Audit 5. Plot Client WIN (and other similar plot-submission tools) bypass the Windows print drivers when they generate multiple copies the file you are plotting. As a result, Print Audit 5 can only detect the first copy being generated, and will only report that one page was printed. While there is currently no way to have Print Audit automatically track the number of plots being generated, there are a couple of workarounds that you can

Who setup operating system? Make sure it’s not XP upgrade. We get PCs with XP PRO only … And set them up ourselves. At first customers and sales reps would supply the pc and we would always run into problems in front of the customer. Now, we’ve setup over 40 plotbase PCs in house, with no problems.

Ok... First, you said "PS driver", so I was looking at a PS driver on a PC. Applying this profile does not in any way help you match exact colors. All that ICC/ICM profiles do is define the Gamut of the printer. All that does is help your driver map colors that are out of gamut into the gamut of the printer. If you want to apply an ICC profile in OSX, copy your ICC profile to System/Library/Colorsync/Profiles. Then in Printer Manager, click on your printer and click the "Colorsync" icon at the

We have tried to do as you suggest, but nothing happens! It is as if the copier overrules our new (Mac)profile. Even if we try to use another profile in the Windows drivers (PCL and PS) then absolutely nothing changes! In CMYK Simulation you can choose User Settings. What does that mean?
