Ricoh congratulates all its volunteers for their efforts on Clean Up Australia Day 2004

On Sunday 7th March Ricoh fielded a team of 106 volunteers to participate in Clean Up Australia Day, 2004. Numbers of volunteers increased by 25% from the previous year. Representatives from Head Office and each branch gave up their time to don a pair of gloves, roll up their sleeves and get a little dirty for the sake of their local environment.
Clean up sites included Bonython Park in Adelaide, Riverside Drive in South Brisbane, Gladstone Street in Fyshwick, the Yarra River end of Church Street and nearby bike track in Richmond, Langley Park in Perth and John Fisher Park/Curl Curl Lagoon in Sydney.

Clean Up Australia Day proved to be a great team building exercise for management and staff. Lunch and refreshments back at the branches was well received by all, after an early start and a full morning of cleaning up.

Rubbish collected around the country included truck tyres, shopping trolleys, children's bikes, park benches, metal, building materials, polystyrene, plastic drink bottles and above all else cigarette butts which leak toxic chemicals into local waterways.

It was heartening to find in our second year of participation in Clean Up Australia Day we were able to cover a greater area in the same amount of time. However, the net result was less rubbish being collected. This is one day where it is definitely a case of "less is more".

Site supervisor in Sydney, Lorna Plate says "On behalf of Curl Curl Lagoon Friends I would like to thank you and your colleagues for your extensive efforts to "Clean Up" the Curl Curl Lagoon fringes on Clean Up Australia Day, 7 March 2004. We have our regulars who turn up year after year, but the assistance of your members and their enthusiastic families made the difference to what could have been a wet and miserable event. Please extend our thanks and keep up all that great environmental work you are doing at Ricoh Australia".
