4.6M Snapchat Users Hacked

Hackers at a site called SnapchatDB.info exposed the usernames and phone numbers of 4.6 million Snapchat users and posted the info on its website. The hackers, whose website has been taken down, took advantage of a vulnerability in the Find Friends interface, which uses a phone’s contacts to find friends on the social network. The hackers claimed they were doing a public service, arguing that tech companies need to place more emphasis on privacy and security than user experience, and issued a statement saying, “Our motivation behind the release was to raise the public awareness around the issue, and also put public pressure on Snapchat to get this exploit fixed.”
