One of our members emailed me an interesting proposal that brings back memories of the 3-5 days.  Basically it meant the client would sign a 60 month lease and that included service and supplies.  At the end of 36 month the service and supplies would end.  Thus the clients costs rose substantially, and most of those clients were not aware of the tremendous increase at month 37 of the lease.

I've asked or permission to post here, hoping I can get that for everyone

Stay tuned!

I'm looking for help, I need to reach out to KM, Toshiba and HP principals.  I'm willing to offer free Premium/VIP memberships for the team along with some other stuff.  Please contact me for details apost@p4photel.com

Have no idea what CROP meant, but with Sharp copy machines only you could press four different buttons on the key panel and access a meter read of the device. Since the LED display only displayed two numbers at a time, you had to wait for the entire sequence to

Question about Toshiba MFP's

·
Less than 5% of my Toshiba clients are not under a Maintenance Service contract. Toshiba sells lots of kits designed for trained service techs to install but not typical end users. Even those customers who prefer not to be invoiced for monthly meter reads we try to automatically collect the meter reads via email or fax and usually but them on copy blocks.

As you've said for years, the Imaging market is at crossroads. - Acquire other dealerships and achieve economies of scale? - Position the dealership on other markets? The only bad solution would be to deny the reality. Therefore, the accountancy is always right. And your EBIT definition makes sense.

Re: The Samsung to HP Transition.

·
We did a HP webinar last week on the transition and it seems to me that HP doesn't have a clue how BTA copier dealers operate. I think they think BTA dealers are going to sell HP branded service packs and then chase reimbursements for service calls and parts from HP. If that is the model they plan on having us dealers use they will fall flat on their faces.

Since this week marked the first week of the last quarter of the month, the day- this week were all about prospecting.  Leaving no stone un-turned it was a combination of calls, emails, and texts.  Of course one of the tasks after the phone call, email or text is to set the next call.

It was this week that I realized that many of those follow up calls I will never make.  In the past, when I found out the date and the term that a client leased a copier. I had no issue with setting up follows up a year, two year and even four years down the road.  My thought process was that sooner or later you'll need to upgrade and I'll be there.

I realized that most of those calls will never take place by me, especially if the client just started a 60 month lease.  Thus, I have no issues with setting future tasks from that person that will replace me.

Thus, if someone wants color and the volume is very low, I have to either walk away or try to sell them the color A4 MP C307SP. With a black device, it's the MP 301SPF. Now, I have multiple clients that have larger A3 devices that have bough many of the lower A4 color monochrome devices. Usually I'll sell the black devices for about $1K and the color for $1.3k. not doing any of those agreements with our MFP's. With the printer the device billing would not include the drum, or fuser. Client would pay for those. Device billing is a practical maintenance agreement for the new A3 ink based MFP's. Epson will be launching their 100ppm color device shortly. The only consumables is the print head and the ink. It's rumored that the print head will be warranted for 3 years. In addition the print head is very costly. The idea would be to charge 200-300 per month

"The thought of a cheap price is long forgotten after poor service", we've all heard some variation of this line at some time  or from someone.  But, how about maybe "The thought of a high price is forgotten after excellent service"?

I had to get a repair on my AC unit today, if it was a hot, sweltering day well I would have paid any price.  But today was not a scorcher and was one of those ten best days of the year. However, it was not one of the ten best days of the year for my checking account!

My AC was broke and I called a company that I used in the winter for my rental apartment and had a good experience. I used them again because of two reasons one reason.

1. They answered the call and that's a plus because in recent year any calls I made to plumbers, electricians and HVAC peeps were going to voice mail and I found myself waiting days for if I received a call back.

2. Knowledgeable technician was awesome, no calling someone else on the phone because they never saw a heater like I had.

My experience from today:

1. I called around 9:30AM today and spoke to someone in dispatch again and another pleasurable experience.

2. They would be out today in between 4pm-6pm.  Another plus for same day service since most others never returned my calls.

3. The technician sent me a text 20 minutes after he finished the stop before me.  This was awesome and I finished whatever I was working on.  I wish something like this could happen more in the copier industry.

4. Polite and courtesy in a great experience when dealing with someone new (client like me). Most of us strive to put the client in our shoes and make them feel comfortable.

End result;  My AC unit needed a part and they had the part in the service truck.  Start to finish was 90 minutes are so.  Cost just to evaluate the issue was $125, cost to fix the issue was another $435.  Total was $560 bucks, yes I thought that was high, however the service was exceptional when compared to others and the thought of having the job completed the same day allowed me to get back to work.

Yes, in the end "The thought of a high price was forgotten after excellent service"

Cloud office automation is the core building block for both departmental process improvement initiatives and for broader, organization-wide transformation. I think the number of copier brands in the US market in 1984 was 29 brands. Now that is a hell of a lot of brands.  Brands like Sanyo, AB Dick, 3M, IBM, KIP, Monroe, Oce, Olivetti and many more can only be seen or remembered in print.  Only five of those brands 1984 still market copier aka MFPs today.

It was also interesting to see that Konica was not a marketed brand in 1984.  Canon, Ricoh, Sharp, Toshiba and Xerox are those five brands I made mention of.  Minolta and Konica merged almost twenty years ago.

Everything changes,,,,what will the next 40 years look like?

I'm a firm believer that if you want change, then you need to offer up ideas on how to make those changes.  Continued rants and bluster gets you nowhere with your peers in the industry.  Those on the outside looking in or those that have lost their way is that an attractive audience?  Wouldn't you want to the voice of change and then be the one that can also offer up ways to change?

I love our industry! I understand not every thing is perfect, however NO industry is perfect. I don't mind peeps preaching about the issues with the industry. However if you're going to hang your hat on what's wrong then you also need to preach on how to fix those issues.

Thats interesting thought process. I tend to agree now. I mean I call my rep for this brochure and he says I don't have any. What kind of crap is that! I have a niche for that because now it seems us and a competitive canon dealer are always going against each other on deals and it tends to go down to the Canon C255 or C355 A4 Color and we end up fighting it down to lower margin etc. I can sell this Samsung if it turns out to be a decent product.

My impressions: Nice display. Very nice doc feeder. Copy quality is decent. Speed is respectable. First copy is fast. Paper drawer is nice. The big question mark for me is the consumables and the build quality of the print engine. It may run great.......only time will tell but it sure seems cheaply made inside. I think I'd be afraid to do a service contract on this product that included any consumables. Its more like a Box Store type of machine but with the feature set of a dealer type unit.

Those are the questions I need to ask in order to help them win, for those more tenured I do get surprised when they don't know the answer.  Thus, this is my opportunity to teach them that "this is the way".
