Just the beginning...? It has now been a little over six months since the merger of Lanier and Ricoh into Ricoh Americas Corporation. During that time, there have been many changes in our organization and we have all experienced some of the good and some of the bad that change brings. The merger of two organizations having different cultures, systems and business methods is a difficult undertaking and what we have seen since April 1 certainly confirms that fact. There is a general impression held by many both inside and outside the business world that salesmen are full of hot air. Many people associate the sales profession with the smooth-talking car salesman who wants to sell you a car that was owned by the proverbial little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays. Reality is that most sales people are average everyday individuals who are friendly and considerate and have friends and families, just like people who are accountants, engineers

While reading the brochure I noticed that you are able to store documents, up to 100 on the internal hd of the printer. A few questions, first how do you get them there and the second is how do you tell them to print. Along with telling them to print can we then tell it how many and what type of finsihing is needed.

Ricoh SP W2470, Why I Can't Sell Them!

untapped. A market where there are 3 to 8 employees and all they need to do is print. They are out sourcing some 40 - 80 prints a month and can't afford payments of $296 and they are buying ink plotters whether HP or Canon. It would be nice to capture these customer also. My general opinion is that Ricoh Wide Format is resting on their laurels with the Ricoh SP W2400. Art, The business plan for the 2400 was created by someone who is no longer with the company, and now is run by people who think they know the market and what it needs. A business when not managed properly will eventually end. Can't live on the past forever. What a shame, Ricoh WF business has gone from the other group, to #1 Marketshare in the US, to...guess we will have to wait and see.

This is a plug n play (UpNp) problem. I solved my issue by disabling UpNp at the server, however you can turn it off at the print also, login to Web Image Monitor and disable SSDP, you may be able to do it from the panel but I'm not sure. I havent seen this problem on the printers but I have on the new MFP's. I would be interested in knowing if this fixes it.

We tried turning off SSDP at the printer but that didn't fix the issue. The customer is going to turn off UpNp at their server and hopefully that will take care of it. The other issue I spoke about was the postscript problem and windows authentication. Any thoughts on this? By the way, Thanks IT Dude for your help.

I also had a case where domain policy overwrote the "lock pages in memory" setting from "everyone" back to the default blank setting. I've also had times where the user selects scan, but the machine requires a few seconds to get into scan mode. The user doesn't wait, and inserts the original to soon. The machine then makes a copy, and throws off the PC/Machine connection. Afterwards the Ricoh needs to be rebooted. I've seen this on 480's but not 240's.

Two thoughts: 1) Use OmniPage to OCR it and save the result as a new pdf. Nuance (formerly ScanSoft) has been a good software partner through our Konica side of our dealership. http://www.nuance.com/omnipage/professional/ 2) Later versions of Adobe Acrobat (I have Acrobat 7) have the ability to do OCR. The file retains the OCR results, so you can reopen it again later and search without having to re-do the OCR.

Tracking data When selling, it's important to keep track of the numbers. It is important for many reasons. Keep track of: 1. The number of dials you make 2. Messages left 3. People you reach 4. First appointments made 5. Number of people who give three "No's". 6. Messages returned 7. Number of new leads added to the intranet We will also be tracking total number of sales visits and number of sales. Eventually, we'll get a handle on the value of our pipeline. Then we can work out how many calls

I tried all these tricks to get the software to recognize the envelope tray, but to no avail. There is a glitch between the software and the printer. Ricoh's suggestion was to bypass the envelope wizard, and have customer type out addresses in Word, and then print to the envelope. You know as well as I do that if a customer can't go to the wizard, their not going to do the extra steps to print to an envelope, they'll just go to another printer. An important part of selling is to keep track of the ratios and numbers so you can understand your pipeline and improve it. How many calls does it take to get an appointment? How many appointments does it take to get a sale? And so on. Eventually, you'll find that it generally takes 10 calls to make an appointment and 10 appointments to make a sale, for instance. Then you'll realize that if you made 1000 calls last month and made $5000, then you'll want to make 2000 calls to make $10,000. Once

Suppose you make 100 calls one month and get 20 appointments for the next month, but that next month you're busy going to appointments so you didn't make any calls -- how many appointments will you have on the third month? None. That's because you didn't feed the pipeline. Of course, if you've done any sales already, you're quick to realize that If you made $20000 in sales this month, it's because you made 2000 calls last month. Or something like that. That's the sales pipeline in reality. You

Sales Pipeline: A sales pipeline is a very important concept in selling because it is the recognition of the origin and result of each sale. Each sale starts as a lead -- which is a phone number, a name, an email address, a referral or someone who walks into your store -- they are leads. From there, you qualify the lead, which means, you make sure this person is capable of becoming a customer -- either they have enough money or the right size outfit for your product. All of the Ricoh scanners can do this with software, and there are many different types that can be used. One of the systems that can be used is GOBY from doculex, keep in mind that a bar code separtor page must be used/inserted betwwen the batches. Bar code information will contain file name, and indexing fields that you require. You can also use Document Mall with associated software. I do not know of any device that will do what you need without software. I reccomend contacting Doculex

***Update**** In reviewing the information, it seems I may have been wrong and that these machines do have the same as their predecessors. However, I never ran into this problem before now. I don't know if it has to do with the way the memory is shared or the fact that these machines are so inexpensive that they are stealing sales that should be handled by 25ppm machines. My only suggestion is to be aware of it before it becomes a problem.

The default SMB workgroup/domain name programmed in the MP161 is WORKGROUP. If that is not the customers workgroup/domain name then you WILL get that

Over the weekend I picked up the BTA magazine for August. In that article was an interview or Q&A with Oscar Sanchez (CEO) of Kyocera Document Solutions America.  Cutting to the chase one of the dealer questioned posed to Oscar.

"The Kyocera A4 has been non-existent for the last several months.  We have been informed that little or no product will be available for the balance of this year"

One of Oscars responses stated that in the last quarter April to June of this year Kyocera shipped 25,000 A4 devices.  Okay, I thought does that mean 25,000 to the USA or was that worldwide?  How about their A4 partners like Ricoh, does that number include A4 MFPs that went to Ricoh USA also?  How about the other partners?

I can accept that he meant the USA market place, which means 8,000 MFPs was the monthly average.  Does that mean.....more coming later this week

Is Product Discounting the Way to Go?

Sure, you want the business, but is discounting the way to go? Studies have shown that once the reduced price goes away, so may the customer. Better to slowly build a base of customers who really want your product "at the regular price" and who will stay with you due to your service and expertise.

Correct. B2C means "Black to Color." well said Shaja, bit depth is far more important to quality color than resolution. if you have 8 bit 600X600 your quality will be much better than a 2 or 4 bit with a resolution of 2400X1800. Like a Konica minolta guy told me on resolution you can only put so many dot in an inch until they start to just pile up whereas the bit depth has to do with the color variation per pixel.

Also same machine when you print user code list, it shows user name and code. Same account MP6500, when user code list is printed only shows user codes with no name. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The golden age of copiers and some may argue when that was, however I had the opportunity to be in the golden age of the business.  It's my belief that the Golden Age of copier started in 1980 and ran till 2010.  My reasoning starts with the mass production of plain paper copiers in the early eighties, then the introduction of the digital copiers in the nineties and lastly the coming of age for digital color copiers.  Technology which brought about so many changes in those 30 years has taken it's toll with advanced digital process (email, pdf, OCR, document management) that has reduced our clicks for the last 12 years.  Change is good and we need to Change!

Something you wrote sounds strangely familiar, but I can only give you a lead to follow up on. A year or so ago, I sat in on a webinar conducted by John Kiefer and Jon Standaert, Ricoh digital support representatives and training experts extraordinaire. I could swear that they demonstrated a toolbar that would create the hot folder with automatic print functionality you want. For the life of me I can't think of the name of the program and nothing I see on Ricoh's solutions site sounds familiar

Re: How Can I Solve this Problem?

Ok, I tested my theory and it does not automate the above scenario. The only thing that does work is to scan to folder and have a shortcut of the PS driver in the folder. This way, users could just select the PDFs they scanned, drag and drop to the PS icon, and collect the prints. Another thought, if the customer needs to scan mixed batches, I am assuming letter and legal, then why recommend an MFP that will not automatically separate the image sizes? Doesn't this lead to more time wasted

Here's the issue.... we need to met a budget with mp2000spf, the one problem with the mp2000spf is that is will not copy mized size orginals, the customer intends to scan all documents anyway, so the thinking is to scan to a "hot folder" and then see if there is sometime of program that will print the file to a network mfp or printer asap, thus negating the need for copy of mixed size originals!

Re: How Can I Solve this Problem?

The only "hot folder" outside of EFI controller software that I am aware of is the "hot folder Print Queue when you PDF direct print." I don't believe this leads to automation of the process. If you shared a PS printer icon as a folder, you maybe able to print the scanned images if they always PDFs. I have not tried this, but I can this afternoon and see if it works. Basically, your going to scan to 2 destinations - a shared folder and a shared PS printer "icon". It sounds like it would

Today marks eleven months since I had my stroke a week before Labor Day.  A day does not go by that I don't remember that I am blessed with a wonderful loving wife.  Kathy was the one who picked up that I was not able to speak for a few minutes and then when I did I was having issues. After ten days in the Hospital and eleven months later I go for my echo cardiogram. If all is well then I've notched another road to recovering. For those that don't this it can happen, well think twice and get to the Doctors even if you don't have the time, you need to MAKE the time.

PCWIN will launch at the desktop and the DWG files (converted to PLT files) will drop into PCWIN. From PCWIN, they will indicate the number of sets they need and send job to print. All processing is done at desktop when printing sets this way.

Re: New W2400 pricing!

skbens (Guest) ·
My biggest concern is the lack of acknowledgement from Ricoh that color scanning is going to be a big deal. I've already lost a couple of deals to Kip's color scanning capabilities. They've actually been able to beat my price on the 240W with color scanning capabilities included on theirs. I'm not sure what Ricoh is thinking with the discounts to WF only dealers and not to full line dealers. Seems like another way for the dealers to fund Ricoh's market share expansion. My dealership bought up a

As more is passed along to me, I will share as much as I can so we can have a heads up and be able to move these moves once they hit the street! iR5000i help please

I have a loyal customer that bought several Canon's from me when I was with IKON. Now that I'm gone they are not getting the support they once were. They have a iR5000i that they can ping, printing works, and the RUI works, they can even scan to an email. But...if they scna to a folder, like they have for 4.5 years, it gives an error. If you go to the RUI and look at the job log, it says error code 755. Any help would be appreciated

Just food for thought on this subject, I mentioned the current RBS tactics to my father at dinner tonight and he thought it would be reason for a lawsuit. I have to listen to his advice because his business is administering corporate class actions and corporate bankruptcy. I could see in the not-too-distant future the independent dealers coming together to fight Ricoh for their predatory pricing behavior. What a horrible way to protect market share? There are a couple of things you all should know about this unit. First it will not receive letter and legal faxes! I over came this by convincing the customer to use fax forward2email, this worked fine, plus they have digital copy of the file. Second, it seems that no one can get the job accounting feature to work. After talking with Samsung they are admitted that the system needs a firmware update.

same problem that has always existed, too many gready owners. RBS doesn't have this problem. They are being funded by a much larger organization and aren't worried about overhead. I also can't believe that RBS isn't using the DMAP registered accounts in their own lists. I used to work for CBS, most of my named accounts were given to me by top management. I always wondered where they got the information from, especially since 90% of them already had Canon equipment from a competitor. As a dealer, we

Displacing a competitor from their accounts can be a very difficult task. At the same time, displacing a competitor can be very lucrative for salespeople and an extremely profitable way for your company to increase its market share. To be successful, salespeople should be careful in their approach and message to the competitor’s client.

So you believe Ricoh is making a huge database too. We are smart for aligning ourselves with RBS...I believe that they will cut off the smaller indpendant dealers and for a while there will be only large dealers and manufacturers. How long have you been with RBS...I have been here just over a year. Well how do you get your leads from your RBS? A few of the older guys here said ricoh used to have hot leads that they would get from corporate and they brought stuff over from previous dealerships

You can definately install the BK5010 with the GBC...I have done it. 2/3 HP option and GBC installed together are more redundant than anything. There are ways you set it up to default to one or the other, at least there is in the 90_105 models. See attached for further reference and look at the highlighted area. Shoot me an email if you'd like the entire SIG, if you do not have it....

The company expects earnings per share for the 2Q to be in the range of $0.62 to $0.67, including an expected tax benefit

The 240w is not meant to take the place of an OCE (8-10 E size ppm) or higher volume printer/copier. It is a lower volume machine and it's perfect for cranking out check sets and final sets for us (smaller firm). Its bigger brother the 470w doubles the output speed to 4ppm E size. Warranty heads now on order. One of our salesreps is looking at our demo unit. He's a bit disappointed about the finisher not doing booklets. It also takes a long time to print ledger full color stuff. Lots of time around the drum drying off. We explained to the rep that the copy quality is better than a Riso but not as good as xerographic. The product does have a niche market.....especially with a limited finisher.
