Funny Story from Jason R

Back in the days before email, I had designed a spreadsheet that did a long series of very complex calculations for our remote offices.

One of our offices called in to say their spreadsheet wasn't working. I tried to walk them through some things but it wasn't working. I wanted them to send them a new disk, but they already had all their data programmed into it..... go here for rest of article

acquisitions to date - or the next big bubble. The deal is expected to allow Ricoh to surpass Xerox as the top selling office equipment manufacturer worldwide, as the company "upgrades" the estimated 720,000 non-Ricoh products that IKON has in the field. The acquisition also provides Ricoh with access to IKON's impressive Fortune 500 and public sector client list, adds 400 sales and service locations, and significantly bolsters the manufacturer's print services resume. Since the merger was first

relegated to sell primarily to smaller businesses, why tease them with production-level devices? In addition, what is the forward-looking strategy for retaining dealers that have been and will continue to be courted by competitors, such as Canon and Konica Minolta? Despite the economy, the current environment seemingly provides a great opportunity for dual-line dealers to negotiate and push the limits of their profitability.

I've stated this a few years ago and still stick by it. I think Ricoh will keep all high performing dealers as Ricoh dealers. Thus any under performing dealers will be asked to take on Lanier or Savin. End result IKON, RBS to dominate fortune companies with sprinkling of mega Ricoh dealers. Lanier and Savin dealers left to compete for SBM's. My two cents worth.

"Dealers that don't perform!" Come on man that is a negative statement. There is still a market for the Lanier name and Lanier is advertising like crazy on television as well as other media. Ricoh is not the "Supreme" or the best. All of the revenue for Savin, Lanier, and Ricoh ALL goes into the "Ricoh" pot. Don't put down the smaller Lanier dealers please.

How can so many people, left and right of center agree on something yet not see any changes? That was rhetorical...the answer is because ultimately the government gets much of it's power via the tax code. As JasonR says, there would be ways to help the poor but with a national sales tax, even the criminals and drug dealers would pay taxes. Not to equivicate Harvard with criminals but I heard today that Harvard doesn't pay a penny of tax including revenue on a $37 Billion endowment. I am curious

If you are using smart device monitor port and the printer is shared, when an error occurs, the notification will go back to the "print server" machine. I would not recommend using the smart device monitor port, but choosing a TCP/IP port and seeing if that resolves the problem. You may also be able to go to the "print server" if you are using one and a smart device monitor port and see if there are any error notifications.

That’s 1.6 times sales, or 12.2 times EBITDA. Still there’s a world of difference between a deal proposed in 2008 and one done in 2007. The current times are more like the no-no days, rather than the go-go days. Goldman did include another 2008 deal in its comparison. Konica Minolta bought Danka Office Imaging

Xerox, Samsung, Muratec and Sharp (Frontier, just heard their first commecial last night) all have seen the light with the coming of age of A4. I'm sure these units will be fantastic, however it will be tough to comepete in a tough economy with the likes of the Sammy 40ppm color that has an MSRP of under $6,500. I just think of Print Management (or Managed Print Services) as the extension of copier programs into the print environment...all service and supplies for a set cost per copy (or in this case print). Sometimes it includes hardware, sometimes not. The other aspect we bring to the table is the establishment of automatic ordering by the device thereby eliminating the need for pre-paid inventory and all the problems associated with it i.e too much, too little, obsolete, employee theft, etc. We also

Envelopes are not supported on the C6000/C7500. Why would you want to run envelopes on a 70ppm color device? Sell them a printer in addition, or give them one. It's much cheaper to change a fusing unit in a printer than an MFP.

I think your giving three seperate yet totally intergrated defintions of Print Management shows just how great a disconnect there can be when dealing with our customers in regards to providing a PM solution. I was recently doing a discovery with a company's CIO and while a PM solution had been addressed with the previous CIO and accepted as one, the new CIO saw it merely as a way for the current vendor to lock in recharged toner cartridges and service at a hefty price. i would say the answer is yes.... PM is really what your customer thinks it is, so it is really up to us during the discovery stage to find out just what the customer's viewpoint is on the subject. Obviously with the CIO I was speaking about, just providing recharged cartridges and including service on the printers wasn't footing the bill, however, for some that may suffice. It's like everything else in our business now, as the professional we have to be the one to diagnose(?) and to recommend

One of the other components which can be part of the managed print process is the financing side. We just recently finalized a total CPC contract with a long term client and the number one reason they were really interested in going this way is to get "off book" financing. Our deal is a cpc for a 48 month term and we carry the hardware as well as the service and supplies...for them it is only a quarterly (paid in advance) invoice for a volume of prints...no lease, no long term responsibility

$6,500 list..... $5,600 LDP, once you put a MU on it, your sales cost is higher than the MSRP, what the %$#& are they thinking. Realistically, they messed up so bad by not having a color scan option with the new 2400 and 3600 (and nothing forseeable for the next 16 months), that they had to resort to this scanner from Contex. Plus the fact you need a dedicated PC, Touch Screen and the system needs to have a W2400, 2470, W3600 or 480 on the network in order to make this work.

Just The Facts, Please "I told a prospect that I'd follow up within a week. Two weeks later, I figured I missed my chance and they went with someone else." Sound familiar? Effective salespeople don't guess themselves into a sale. To ensure you're operating with the facts, ask yourself this, "Do I have evidence to support my assumption or how I'm feeling?" Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from gaining clarity rather than drowning in the stories that you believe are true.

whatever. All that being said, there is no justification that I can think of for a 300% increase. I have to believe that if you told them that they are stuck with it at that price that they will reconsider. Our goal is that the sales cost needs to be 25% of the street price of new. That way Sales reps can sell at 100% markup and the customer is getting it for 50% of the cost of new.

YES, THE 2,800 was the final cost on the equipment. I quess our beef is that when a customer needs the PM, our charges to the customer is less than the charge to sales person. Plus talking to the tech is useless, they tell us nothing and to speak to management. I can understand a mu on parts and costing for labor and realize the comapany should make money for the prep of the unit. However, I have estimated the parts at about $1800 plus labor, lets give it four hours of labor at 80, which equals

240W PM's

Interesting scenario, we received a 240W on trade, we bought it from the leasing company for $2,800, print, scan dual rf..etc. The system has 80K of linear feet. We were told yesterday that our base price is $7,000!!! The system needed a pm, drum, cleaning blade, oil roller, coronas, fuser was in vg condition!!! What are your thoughts about adding $4,200!!
