Curious to see if anyone has sold any of these yet. We have found that it makes good color prints but embarrassing color copies. I still think we can market this as a good entry level bw copier/fax/printer/color printer. Still will do as well as Savin AC205+CLP17 at a lower initial investment. Any thoughts on this?

I don't think I was as clear as I should have been in my previous post. They would transport the mfp with them and use it for printing locally. The main problem comes when they want to send a fax. I'm thinking of selling them an AC205 and showing them that they can scan via usb or Scan to PC software and then sending the fax via a third party solution like smart fax. The AC205 would be ideal because it is lightweight, inexpensive and has the scan to usb capability. The main hurdle is the third

I think if you map the port of the MFP through the firewall. The end-user (on their laptop in the field) Could print via IPP. (Internet Printing Protocol) I know the Ricoh MFP's have this capability. To be honest I never have done this. But, in theory it can be done. That is where I would look. -slim463

Get this, my boss (the owner) calls me and tells me about an existing client that wants to upgrade thier duplicator. He states he wants to give to me since I am the most knowledgable in our office about duplicators. It is a church account and there is competition, I get the deal and make $300 in commissions, plus the $200 spiff from Ricoh. Not bad....I was happy with the outcome. Now a month later I get an email from him saying that it is his account and he is taking the $200 spiff from Ricoh

That was just wrong. But who is to say the next guy wouldnt do the same thing. I have heard similar things from our salesmen about our boss. And from other techs in other companys. Like changing the commission after the sale, or changing the compensation after the deal. I am sure not everyone is like that but with about 5-6 employers under my belt, I can safely say it is not uncommon.

Re: Gas Price Check

A thought hit me while looking over the articles here. Since the major gas companies are making billions in quarterly profits, any chance the copier companies servicing their copiers could base their CPC's on what their local gas charges are? How would they react to paying $2.75 per copy, excluding toner? Just a wishful thought!

I totally agree, making changes after-the-fact is just WRONG!!! I guess every salesperson struggles with situations like this with at least one of their employers. All we can do is voice our opinion and try to change the situation. If we can't, like you said, we have two choices -- put up with it or go somewhere else. Either way, if we let it affect our attitude, it can dull our edge, and we can miss a sale -- losing even more money due to the same situation.

Remember Dale Carnegie: "arouse in the other person an eager want." Here's one small thing that is a huge benefit from one user's perspective: We sell Konicas and Ricohs. We currently have a C450 and a 3224C on our network inhouse, and I use both in my marketing work. I prefer using the Ricohs for their ease of use when color is not critical. The Ricoh RPCS print driver is a dream! Put that puppy on your laptop and get your prospect's hand on the mouse to try it, and they will want it

I think we need it to compete in that arena with Canon. I recently upgraded a customer from a 2045 to a 2060 and what I did was included a 1515F in the deal. The price point was still close to the Canon, I created enough added value to justify the cost. In this case there was space available where in some cases space is an issue.

Unrelated to this sort of..... If your customer sends a print job and asks for multiple sets, but only gets one. Happens because auto continue is set to Immediate and the paper size is incorrect. By default the Ricoh will only produce one set if the paper size is incorrect; even if you manually tell it what paper size to use. Auto continue stops the machine to ask what to do, but has a time out so if one job is incorrect all the jobs don't build up behind it. Therefore is it's set incorrectly

Statement size paper on the Savin C3528

My customer wants to print to statement size paper (8 1/2 x 5 1/2). The system recognizes the paper in the paper tray as A5. The problem is when the page setup of the document reads statement the result is a paper type mismatch. I cannot find anywhere to input a custom size for paper trays (except the bypass). Can anyone tell me how to program the drawer for statement size?

1060 print challenge

I have a few 1060's at a customer's office, he says periodically noone can print to them. He says he can ping it successfully. But, he says he goes to the "port" tab on properties, and chooses configure port, and in the "raw setting" "port no." box the port number is different every time. He says if he changes it to 9100 it works. I have never gone to this window before on any of my printers, never had this question. Any tips? Thanks

Checked out the new Xerox at a customer's site and this is what I found: Meter reading displays separate meter read for each roll. Need to slide doc feed forward and actually lift off the machine to clear jam in doc feed area. Originals are right justified to scan or copy versus centering like the 240W. To make copy, you need to use touch screen panel to select "Synchro". If you don't select, you will get a copy that is a standard size with lots of blank paper around the image. Scan to mailbox

Setting the "LPR" option in "Standard TCP/IP" port is *not* the same as adding a real LPR port. As the Dude mentioned, LPR is alot less problematic, Microsoft has periodicly broken Standard TCP/IP over the years. LPR byte counting is not required for our printers. All byte counting does is tell the printer what size the print file is before it sends the file so that it knows when the end has arrived. Without it, the printer will automatically sense the "end of file". Some printers do require it

Seeking color scanner that also has user and account code capability.

Steven Breault (Guest) ·
One of our resellers does not sell scanners and has a customer for our vFILER Indexing System. The customer currently has a Savin that doesn’t provide color scanning, but does have user and account code capability. This is important for them. They have asked for a quote on an additional scanner that will also print in color, but it will need the account codes too. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thank you.

I haven't had much exposure to the 480, but have you tried putting the scan all the way to the right when you feed it in? On the custom sizes, if training is an issue, you could print up a one page training sheet and explain step by step how to enter in the correct information, maybe? I am just trying any idea I can think of.

I have not tested any scanning on the 480W as of yet, but I always train customers to set the scan size versus using scanner mode. My experience has been that if your scan is slight skewed or off center, the scanner might recognize a bigger size. When printing, the printer will APS a larger paper size or not allow printing at all. If you have a scanned original that is just over 36", not only will the job redline, but you cannot force it to print to a specific roll. Basically, you are left

I have never seen or heard of the tcp/ip port re-configuring itself, however i have heard of weird things happening if more than 9 or 10 people try to print using 9100 at the same time. With that being said the quickest remedy may be to set printing up using LPR, as it has always seemed to me anyway to be the more stable, especially when printing to a "dumbed" down version of the UNIX OS, which is what is on that print controller. The Second Week of February 2006

I had a little time after work today to review a Minnella's Pocket Guide to Copiers (low and middle volume) from 1990. I wanted to see how many companies were in the business that offered dealerships. Notice I did call them manufacturers and the reason for that is many of these companies bought the copiers from the manufacturer but then re-labeled them as a different brand.

Can anyone guess how many there were in 1990?  Do you give up?  There were 25 companies!  With many obscure names such as Silver Reed, Sanyo, Towa, Selex and Swintec.  Interesting that four of those five names also manufactured typewriters.

Competitive Information Chart

Art Post (Guest) ·
Competitive Information Chart One area in which reps often need help is in answering customer requests for comparisons of your product to your competitions. Reps must be able to focus on your product’s unique selling points, and how they compare and contrast to the competition. One way to help them do this is to chart which reps are winning or losing accounts to which competitors, and why. With that knowledge, you can train reps in the value-added selling techniques appropriate to you product

We're told to accept but immediately document damage on the shipper's paperwork, and file claim with carrier. I believe the rationale is that once it leaves Ricoh's loading dock, the responsibility for the product lies with the carrier. Check and see if it's the same carrier for all your damaged shipments; and if it

The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

First Week of February 2006

I thought I would mix it up a bit and post some historical points of interest for the first week of February.

  • Rock singers Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper died in a plane crash. (1959)
  • The board game Monopoly first went on sale.(1935)
  • Astronaut Alan Shepard hits three golf balls on the moon. (1971)
  • The Beatles come to the U.S. for the fist time. (1964)

"Alan Shepard is the only person to hit a golf ball on the Moon. During the Apollo 14 mission he fitted an 8 iron head to the handle of a lunar sample collection device and launched three golf balls. They are still there!"

I'm sure Alan Shepard has this pre-planned and pre-approved to bring along the golf balls and the 8 iron head.  Developing a plan and putting the plan in action proves time and time again that we can accomplish anything we want.

Neither a card reader or Equitrac is the right answer. Equitrac is a print accounting software. Re: Driver Installation Problem

Just FYI, without SNMP, you can still install the driver, it will just give you annoying error messages saying it can't detect the printer state (because it uses SNMP to communicate that info). FTP won't affect this part of the install. Domain and workgroup might affect it. The way I usually test my user rights is to open the spool folder on the server from a client and make a new folder. If I can do that across the network, I should have all the rights I'll need to accomplish anything.

Same here and I'd say our population of Ricoh wide format is in the 40s. How I would handle it: We have a "leave-in-place" electrical monitor. We would attach this device to the power outlet and let it take continuous reading for 2-3 days. If electrical anomolies are detected, that is the customer's problem not ours. The customer would need to provide us with adequate, stable power. Any maintenance problems tied to these electrical anomolies would not be covered under their normal maintenance.

Jason...it is like playing Russian Roulette. I think it's one of those dirty little secrets all mfgs won't really admit, because in the end, you can print directly dwgs from AutoCAD. But in the real world, settings will get lost, changed, or mis-interpreted,especially on a complex dwg file with lots of stuff imbedded in it. Having an AutoCAD license on the server will fix thi$$$$, but I find that converting (plot to file) a dwg in AutoCAD to a plt is the way to go without added expense.

When working with scan2folder, we should be able to achieve the same thing as ecopy's scan2folder solution at a much lower cost! Maybe even go as far as adding a external server to these systems that will run MS XP and allow the users from the flat panel touch screen to move anywhere on the LAN or WAN and

I'm curious, how do other companies handle splits in different sales reps territories. Lets say rep A sells a copier to a banks main office in his territory then later that same bank wants to purchase a copier for a branch in territory B. Does A handle sale, Does rep B handle sale, do they split it? Curious to see what everyone else does.

I will say that some of the functions in PrintMail are more complex to perform than I would expect of an application geared toward a general Office user (the suppression of blank line feature and the dynamic image feature, to name two examples). Frankly, I am concerned about trying to teach an average Office user how to go

The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago for The Third Week in October 2005

Fifteen years ago the Print4Hotel was just turning 4 years old.  What started as an MSN Community with a handful of members finally made the jump to a full web community in 2003.  As I look back I'm proud of what we've accomplished to give the people in our industry the chance to communicate and share ideas with a global venue.

Enjoy these cool copier threads from 15 years ago this week!

Are there any other VDP people out there who have used both? I'd be interested in your feedback or comparisons.
