Three Dealer Sales Reps walk into a bar, one sells Ricoh, one sells Savin, and one sells Lanier. They all sit down next to each other and order a round of beer, after a long hard day of cold-calling, prospecting, and checking in on existing customer accounts...read more here
What’s your biggest hurdle when competing against Direct Branches? Most will say price, however that’s probably the last one on the list. Most Direct Branch reps tell the customer if they buy from them they’ll be buying from the manufacturer and they will have better service than any dealer!....read more here
I had an email the other day from an analyst from a major printer vendor. In the email I was asked "what went wrong with this program?" I thought, geez your asking me?? I had done a few blogs in reference to the HP edgeline after it's before and after the release. (HP's Touted Edgeline MFP's "Ready to Rock"? & Who's Afraid of HP Edgeline CM8000 Series?) go here or the rest of the thread
"They're likely to offer a pat answer about price or prior loyalty, but if you probe a bit you might find your way to a more substantial reply"
You know Art, the answer, I think, is likely in the last sentence of your sales tip. Far too many reps don't "peel the onion". Pat questions that receive pat answers to put together a pat proposal. Einstein once said that the definition of insanity... .. go here or the rest of the thread
And the ice goes on.....Here I am on Saturday January 31st, and we are still without power. Ice and Sleet came through the Kentucky area late Monday through Tuesday, followed by snow. I spent Tuesday night listening to hundreds of trees and thousands of limbs breaking beneath the weight of the ice. I do not care to hear that sound again. Each time a limb broke, I waited to hear if it was coming down on my house.... go here or the rest of the thread
"If you had the opportunity to move to a better territory, is it better to move or stay and grow your current territory?"
This is a great question, right?
I guess there's much to consider if a territory move is presented to you. I may not be the right person to answer that question and I'm hoping others may be able to place a comment to this blog post..... go here or the rest of the thread
Over the last few years, I started to see the writing on the wall, you know the signs of a sinking ship (I should have abandon ship a few years ago) Where we had inventory, now their was none. Where we had a demo room, and then there was none. Where we had test machines and then their were none. We used to be able to get systems in a few days .. go here or the rest of the thread
We're starting to work on offering more cost per page total inclusive contracts. Where we supply the hardware and everything for x cents per page with a certain base commitment. I understand that in order to be successful at this, it might be necessary to offer some re-manufactured HP printers and partner with some good supply sources to get the lowest possible TCO... go here or the rest of the thread
Funny Story from Jason R
For all of you newbies......, when was the last time you had a copier delivered to a customers office to do a demonstration of how the copier can help their business improve their paper intensive workflow? For the life of me I can't remember if anyone in our office has offered up a demo and then tried to close on the spot. ... go here for rest of article

Back in the days before email, I had designed a spreadsheet that did a long series of very complex calculations for our remote offices.
I had posted a funny story here several years ago, that I had to post again for the folks that never read it.
I installed and trained an Aficio 3035 yesterday to a Sheriff's Office. One of the ladies (who is a true blonde) was asking questions on the yellow key. I instructed her that before you make copies, to press the button to first clear any job that was previously run. I thought she understood that. When I was following up today.... go here for rest of article
I think, in general, companies put way too much stock in how much of a difference a Sales Manager can make. I also feel that all to often the "Peter Principle" comes into play. For those that aren't aware,The Peter Principle is a........read more here
