This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago, The Fourth Week in June 2003

Fifteen years ago, hard to believe that many of us have seen so much come and go during those years.
The Ricoh Aficio 1224 was an A3 color device that printed 12 pages per minute in color and 24 pages per minute in black.  We had some horrific problems with speed when the Ricoh 1224 would go into an auto calibration during a print or copy run. It would take up to 5 minutes to calibrate and then restart the print job, and yes we had many frustrated users because we weren't aware of how the 1224 calibrated.  Too boot Ricoh also never made us aware of the issues.
Enjoy the threads from 15 years ago this week!

Continued 1224 stuff...

1000 copies for calibration versus 200 is consistent color quality on long runs ... but then again if you are selling this for long run jobs, well you just placed this system outside of its intended target ... the general office volumes up to 8,000 per month. The setting for check toner every 50 copies? I would suggest that your technicians check with Ricoh tech support for a recommendation in making changes. I was told by somebody (I'll withhold the name) at Ricoh that we could add the LCT on the 3800CMF. It is an option on the 3800C printer option, but it makes the CMF too tall (not industry compliant), that is why Ricoh says only 1,600 sheet capacity. He has seen dealers sell the 3800CMF with the LCT trays and increase the capacity to 3,100 sheets, in order to compete, with the only negative being the height. Hope this helps!

It sounds like you are refering to having a 10mb or 100mb network. All of the ricoh network devices I'm familiar with use Auto-detect to determine the speed of the network but then they set that value and do not detect again. So when the printer is turned on it looks at the network and detects 10mb speed, and sets the card to 10mb. If the network chances to 100mb the printer does not detect this until it is turned off and on again.

Well, I think GWA refers to the controller almost exclusively. Ground Work Architecture as I understand it refers to the fact that the components such as memory, hard drive, networking, etc. in the controller, are shared by the system and accessed as needed. This is why the old systems needed 2 network connections for printing and scanning and now we only need one (because they didn't have this).

Nice thread about the Seri Printer below. I recently sold a Seri Printer with a Ricoh HQ9000 duplicator, well it was last year.  I ran across the perfect application and pretty much knew there was no one else in the US that would even think of offering the Seri Printer and the Duplicator.  Ricoh discontinued the Seri Printer in the US about ten years ago.  To make a long story short I met the inventor of the Seri Print back in 2002 when I visited Japan.  He was England or Scotland I think.  I reached out to him about the Seri, they were still offering the product. We imported the Seri, combined it with the duplicator and made 40K GP a little over a year ago. It was AWESOME

Murder of a 1018d

·
I have a customer with a 1018d. (I inherited this, didn't sell it.) Apparently there volume has increased a bit and they were undersold. The have had the machine for one year and averaged 8,500 per month. Now, I know this is high, but the machine is rated for a max of 15,000. Is 8,500 that much that the machine would be dead and beyond repair in one year? My service manager tells me that Ricoh Tech Support says that it is more or less the issue.

Yea that's not grammatically correct, but let's not forget that I still sell copiers for a living.  If you get the chance please check out that thread below.

As I understand it "Workmanship" refers to the construction of the machine, if someone installed a piece incorrectly or it was damaged in its manufacture, it is covered by the workmanship clause. It does not infer a warranty on your labor costs above the amount Ricoh already provides to its warranty servicing dealers.

Re: Print Controller for 551

·
I think it will work! The firmware files for both controllers are the same (0.58). I have found one strange bug in the 1055 driver (definitley the driver, not the controller) and used a 700 driver to work around it with no side effects. I have submitted the bug to Ricoh to see what they say about it. Once I hear from them, I'll post some info on it here. I'll try to catch a 551 or 700 going through refurb and install one of these on it to see. Thanks! Lee

Re: 1224/1232 Maintenance Pricing

From: Ted Kochman (tedkochman@msn.com) Date: Tuesday, March 04, 2003 05:03 PM According to Ricoh's RMAP Full Maintenance, under Combo w/Ricoh Supplies: cpc is either 0.0145 or 0.0135. The note below states: "Combo includes Black Toner only; Color Toner not included". I gather that you can bill them as low as 0.0135 for everything excluding the color toner, which you would sell them. Or you could be creative and run the maintenance yourself, bill them a cpc for color clicks and include the toner.

If you need the speed of the 1045 for the copy side than you're stuck with Global or SR Pro, if you can slow things up a bit, and maybe sell the idea of a little color to make up for the speed differential than try selling the new 1232 with a print/scan option. This will scan to e-mail just like the 1060. We got a 1224 and 1232 in the showroom this week and they seem pretty solid.
