Ok, 1st, that plotter status should always say that unless you have AutoCAD loaded on the PC. It isn't actually an error, it's simply telling you you don't have AutoCAD installed so it won't process DWG files. I *think* it is totally unrelated to your issue. I think Bandit has the answer, using the 300dpi driver should make it work. The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

The Second Week of February 2006

I had a little time after work today to review a Minnella's Pocket Guide to Copiers (low and middle volume) from 1990. I wanted to see how many companies were in the business that offered dealerships. Notice I did call them manufacturers and the reason for that is many of these companies bought the copiers from the manufacturer but then re-labeled them as a different brand.

Can anyone guess how many there were in 1990?  Do you give up?  There were 25 companies!  With many obscure names such as Silver Reed, Sanyo, Towa, Selex and Swintec.  Interesting that four of those five names also manufactured typewriters.

Reps must be able to focus on your product’s unique selling points, and how they compare and contrast to the competition. One way to help them do this is to chart which reps are winning or losing accounts to which competitors, and why. The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

First Week of February 2006

I thought I would mix it up a bit and post some historical points of interest for the first week of February.

  • Rock singers Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper died in a plane crash. (1959)
  • The board game Monopoly first went on sale.(1935)
  • Astronaut Alan Shepard hits three golf balls on the moon. (1971)
  • The Beatles come to the U.S. for the fist time. (1964)

"Alan Shepard is the only person to hit a golf ball on the Moon. During the Apollo 14 mission he fitted an 8 iron head to the handle of a lunar sample collection device and launched three golf balls. They are still there!"

I'm sure Alan Shepard has this pre-planned and pre-approved to bring along the golf balls and the 8 iron head.  Developing a plan and putting the plan in action proves time and time again that we can accomplish anything we want.

I haven't used demo originals in years. The reason I stopped using pre-printed originals was a customer to whom I was demonstrating a new Ricoh 5535 to asked me, "If you want to sell me this machine, you need to show me how MY orginals look, not YOURS!" That did it for me. It also freed up space in the briefcase for other essential forms, like sales orders.

I told the Postmaster we did have refurbished copiers in several public libraries that used them for the public. This Postmaster faxed the requirements that they wanted a vendor to provide. First, the vendor would have to provide a machine with a digital coin op that accepted both bills and coins. Second, the vendor would make the coin op's charge $15 cents per print, but in turn, PAY the post office

All of our school districts are asking for the same thing. A salesman in one of our branches has been installing keypads from HECON (about $515.00 from a 3rd party distributor here in the states). Unfortunately, that 3rd party distributor closed down. We were just discussing trying to contact HECON directly to see if they will sell to us...you might try the same thing. Re: Aficio 3045 user quotas

Neither a card reader or Equitrac is the right answer. Equitrac is a print accounting software. What you need is a Print management software and if it is under $1,000, it probably isn't going to do what you need. Re: Driver Installation Problem

Just FYI, without SNMP, you can still install the driver, it will just give you annoying error messages saying it can't detect the printer state (because it uses SNMP to communicate that info). FTP won't affect this part of the install. Domain and workgroup might affect it. The way I usually test my user rights is to open the spool folder on the server from a client and make a new folder. If I can do that across the network, I should have all the rights I'll need to accomplish anything.

Re: Power Outages

Same here and I'd say our population of Ricoh wide format is in the 40s. How I would handle it: We have a "leave-in-place" electrical monitor. We would attach this device to the power outlet and let it take continuous reading for 2-3 days. If electrical anomolies are detected, that is the customer's problem not ours. The customer would need to provide us with adequate, stable power. Any maintenance problems tied to these electrical anomolies would not be covered under their normal maintenance.

Check, clean, replace all of the vertical transport sensors from the paper cassettes. A slight delay in feeding the paper up to the reggo area will cause phantom jams. You can wear up to 8mm from the TX unit before they may cause a problem. Also as part of your fault finding see if you can find exactly when it happenes. Duplex only, LCT,...

Previous versions of Autocad would allow batch printing but not multiple sets of the batch - not so anymore.

You're right, XP should recognize the USB device without a problem. Does the computer have a 2.0 port? Even tho the printer is a 2.0 I would go into SP5844 and change the rate to full speed (12 Mbps). High speed (480 Mbps) can sometimes cause this. And the autochange will always go to 480 when available. As long as its just printing, you'll not notice the difference.Except it will work!

Jason...it is like playing Russian Roulette. I think it's one of those dirty little secrets all mfgs won't really admit, because in the end, you can print directly dwgs from AutoCAD. But in the real world, settings will get lost, changed, or mis-interpreted,especially on a complex dwg file with lots of stuff imbedded in it. Having an AutoCAD license on the server will fix thi$$$$, but I find that converting (plot to file) a dwg in AutoCAD to a plt is the way to go without added expense.

Perhaps your file only contains color data that is in the printer's Gamut? then you wouldn't see any change in files printed as long as all the colors are within the gamut. I've been using and selling Atlas Software's PrintShop Mail for two years, which is a great VDP product (and I'm a little surprised that no one's mentioned it on the message boards yet). I'm getting ready to install and evaluate Print Mail, but from Ricoh's materials it doesn't sound like it has nearly the features of PrintShop Mail. Are there any other VDP people out there who have used both? I'd be interested in your feedback or comparisons.

I have no clue as to how 2020 will end revenue wise. The year has proven to be full of challenges for all of us.  What I do know is that I will not give up, or give in to negative thoughts.  The world is what we make of it an if we are too succeed then WE need to make things happen every day.

I’ll play devils advocate here. Ricoh printers are already available online from many places. If Ricoh ever wants to get significant market share in printers they will have to open distribution. The RFG dealer network will not get the market share needed. But in the long run I think this will help us. How you ask???? The current Ricoh printer line is very strong. Superior to other products in many places. But we are still “selling printers”. To us that typically means long sales cycle for

My rule #1 when I was selling copiers: I started by Asking the Right Questions AND Completing a Document Management Questionnaire. The copier and MFP has a competitive advantage over other devices, however, technology itself does not sell as effectively as a solution. I keep the discussion focused on the solution of electronic filing, its quantifiable benefits, and how the customer could use it in their office environment. By focusing on a user’s problem and solution I found it be much simpler

what Ricoh did and how it stacked up in the marketplace, and they were not prepared to take what they saw as a risk. The Ricoh name needs to be made far more visible - at least over here - and moves like this can only help that goal. The bottom line is of course that we try to sell solutions rather than printers, and that has got to remain the focus of our work. It will become a little easier if customers know the product line - and know they can trust and respect it.

Ricoh had us turn up the fuser temp ... it was marginally better for a week, then it got the the point that the toner was not even bonding to standard 20lb bond paper! not bonding to 20 lb stock? If youre not a tech, you need one. This one is going to be too obvious. I see you got a new fuser unit. You're using Ricoh supplies? are the symptoms consistant? That is, happening all the time? If not it could be damp paper. Using damp paper means the heat of the fuser is used to dry out the paper instead of melting the toner. As I said this has to be something obvious.

Re: CL400dn

Darren .... ·
The drum seems fine, the image transfers fine, it wouldn't seem to be a pre-fusing image problem, unless it was a bad batch of toner. Corporate is taking over, I'll inform you of the results. Yes, it is OEM toner. A trained tech is working on it and has been in contact continuously with Ricoh on this.

As far as the shrinking, that is usually an application problem. Windows image viewer and Adobe Acrobat both shrink apges by default. Make sure your application is set to print the image at 100%. You can usually tell if something is at 100% because it will run off the right side of the page. Remember that the SCAN is 8.5x11 but the PRINTABLE AREA is a bit smaller due to page margins, etc.

Ted, How many lines are handling this volume? Your cost of operation would be very high on the 5510's. You might consider a bank of 1515F's to handle the job. The 2035,2045 wouldnt really help with the volume other than cost of operation, of which the acquisition cost would probably offset a lot of the savings. Just my two cents. Good Luck.

Your management is not in tune with the industry and they have to understand that clicks drive profits. Aficio AP3800c laser optics housing labels location??

GUEST ·
Help! I have an AP3800c that I screwed up and did a memory clear on it. Now I have to reprogram sp2-109-2 & 3 and sp2994-1 thru 4 Problem is, I can't find the stickers on the laser optics housing with the values I need. I've pulled the output tray and I can see the top and most of the sides but I can not find the stickers like are described in the manual. This is my first Ricoh, I normally do HP so please go easy on me I am praying that I'm missing the obvious somehow and that I won't have to

You only need to post in one Forum. The 20mb spool file you see, that is at the customer's site with their file? If you make your own file around the same size, does it print as slow? I have seen 1 inch x 1 inch .jpg's turn out to be 11x17 files squeezed down fit where the customer wants it in powerpoint. If it is just one document, you can try eliminating some graphics to see if a particular one is causing a problem. Print half the file, if the print speed is half of what it was before, print

I know I saw Bate Stamping in the specs of a scanning solution software but I've looked at so many, I can't remember which one. Try looking at Doculex and others unless you are looking for something alot cheaper. If you do an internet search you get some hits also. We did successfully (only one time) sell suedo Bate Stamping using a combination of user stamp and page numbering. You have to spend some time getting the location of the stamps so that they print next to each other but the finished

Yes, I can access the folder from workstations and create a file in the folder and delete it. There is not a workgroup, it is a domain. The domain has .local after it and is entered correctly under smb settings. I can browse the network from the copier, but when I try to go into the "Server" where the share folder is located, it tells me that the password is invalid. But the user and password were created and given rights by the administrator. The only thing that I can see from your description

My guess woudl be you have insufficient airflow around the process area. Make sure the machine is PM'd and all the filters are clean. Are you using genuine consumables?? Old dev or drum will cause process control to overdrive and could therefore apply too much charge, in term blowing the main charge.

If they you running osx 10.3 or later, you can use one of the Macs modems as a fax server and share it across the network. Just run a phone line to the modem and you done. Sharing that is done under system settings (printing and faxing). If you have any question please email me. I will then psot the emails and responces for all to read. JG

driver is for all "200x" versions, and supports the 300 400 and 600. It shows that the TDS300/400 do not have a 2000 or XP windows print driver... That's false, once again, a single print driver download contains the 300/400/600 driver, and it supports XP and 2000 and 2003. The controller specs are WHACKO. First, there is no such thing as a "customer supplied" controller for the Océ. The Océ controller is an Océ supplied Dell PC running XP embedded. It is "locked down", you can't reach the start

Print scan is optional and the Fiery will work with either machine. Just had our launch 2 weeks ago as well

Re: Ricoh 3260C and 5560

 ·
The 2 machines are identical except for speed and neither comes standard with a print controller. The reason for the 2 different machines is purely marketing. the 3260 is targeted at B/C market and the 5560 is for production color. If you look at the brochures you will notice the 3260 brochure is set-up like the other 32XX boxes and does not mention the fiery. But the 5560 Brochure looks like the 6513 brochure and only mentions the fiery. In reality either controller will work in either machine.

I use Linux a LOT.. I have it installed on around a dozen or so machines here. I have an AP3800c (and a number of other laserjets) on my lan and any pc can print directly to it. But, if I so desire, say to spool a huge job or a lot of huge jobs I can print to the CUPS server running on one of my machines, CUPS will spool print jobs and route them to any printer I want. I can access the CUPS interface and have full and total control over all printers, can stop, start, restart, kill print jobs

From memory the laebls are on the Laser Diodes. Should be able to read them from the top. Line adjust though is a different subject, even if you have the correct figures entered for the lasers. Good luck.

Plotting to a CL7200, AF3228?

I have a customer looking to plot some 11x17" drawings from CAD on a color printer. Can anyone assure me that this can be done? I don't know if they would require postscript or if they would need to change their file type or what. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

2035e sp making spots

GUEST ·
We have a new 2035e sp making spots. It usually happens after it sits unused for a few hours. After a few copies, it clears up. We've increased the fusing temperature (twice). This seems to provide a temporary fix, but after a few days, it starts back. It happens on print AND on copy. We have replaced the fusing unit, drum unit, developer, put a PM kit in, made laser adjustments, toned down the boldness. Any suggestions?
