Leavin Money on the table.......

Is a term I hear too much in our industry. Leaving money on the table refers to not getting as much money for your product and most of the time refers to a salesperson gouging the customer and selling the product at a ridiculous price. I was just told a story about and e-cabinet that was sold for $60,000, needless to say the product did not perform and the customer would never do business with that salesperson nor the company again. In another instance a salesperson sold a 1515 for $5,000! It's

For the record, I think in the long term, it is a terrible way to treat the vendors that have been selling Ricoh family wide format for years and NOW that we have a tool that really raises the bar: give it to the competition.

Well, Microsoft 2003 Server has SMB Digital signing defaulted to be turned ON from the install. And all other Microsoft Server Operating Systems (Such as Windows 2000 server) are defaulted to OFF! That right, we could not scan on window 2000 server, if an end user turned this feature to ON! The reason we haven't seen it because no one has turned it

If you are printing 24x36 landscape, there are many factors that cause the prints to fall out incorrectly: gravity, static on the mylar strips, machine balance and what Wallin is talking about. I too have customers that were slightly peeved about this. Try to steer them toward the top tray and if they must use the rear, tell them to print portrait instead of landscape. The problem is there and my techs have worked on it and can get it to get for awhile, but then the same problems happen

This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Last Week of February 2005)

Why would this week be different than the rest of the weeks in February?  Since I depleted by pipeline at the end of the year it's been quite the struggle to rebuild.  Thus I'm no where near where I need to be with February coming to an end on Monday for me. To make matters worse I'm off to Aruba the first week of March for our Presidents Club Trip. I was able to add a couple of large opportunities this week, one for MNS and the other for 30 plus devices.  At this time both are March or April business and both will take a lot of work to bring them home.

This is caused by the fuser speed, which is slightly lower than the transfer belt speed. Therefore the paper stalls as it get to the fuser rollers giving the grey band. Check out page 4-78 of the service manual and adjust accordingly. You can make the adjustments to get rid of this problem.

Read the manual..... You cannot adjust the transfer belt speed, but you can adjust the fuser speed. The black dev unit drives the fuser unit. Adjust the black dev speed.

Adjust black dev motor speed. Problem is caused because the paper hits the fuser belt. Same as your AF2238. I thought originally you had the other problems at the other end of the TX unit. You should be able to adjust this out because it's pretty bad.

You can also see it on AP3800/CL7000/CL7100 but not as much as this. In color, there is a slight band but not as much as in b/w. This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Second Week of February 2005)

Just a little more on the show that I'd like to share from this week.  While standing at the end of our booth I was watching the reps from other companies in our section.  So many peeps passed their booth and they did not say a word! No greeting, no communication, they waited for someone to speak to them first.  Needless to say I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that many warm leads were lost because these reps were never taught the fine art of "hawking" while at a trade show. I was taught many years ago by a dealer owner who wanted orders at the show. That art of hawking is to stand (not sit) and to be at the edge of your booth.  Greeting, then the question where they are from (breaks the ice) and then the open ended question of "have you seen" or "do you have". It really does make a difference!

Enjoy the Threads from 15 Tears Ago!

Profit has dropped 22 percent for the Japanese corporate headquarters of Konica Minolta, but color copiers are getting a lot of attention in the U.S. subsidiary. Profits dropped in the parent company's holdings in the third quarter ending Dec. 31, 2004, attributed by the company to lower copier sales and a dip in digital camera prices. The company's emphasis on color machines seems to be gathering steam, though. Konica Minolta has the top market share positions for color copiers in the

I then tell them the benefit of "not having to bend over" to get their prints, plus the ease of use by removing the stacks from the top as they come out collated. Thus siimple explanation has eliminated the rear feed exit problem issues with my accounts.

Interesting idea. I personally think the copier manufacturer's myopia with the 11x17 format has a lot more to do with inertia than with market demand. Look at how well HP and Lexmark have done in the printer market with very limited tabloid product. Why does speed and high capacity paper handling have to equate to tabloid format. If the traditional vendors don't pick up this ball, then you can be sure someone beyond HP will...they won't ake forever figuringout how to build (or buy) a decent

Both show the same cost per LF of about .013 per LF, both show the same cost based on a user performing 59,000LF per year. However the sheet that I recieved from Ricoh Marketing (which is a service cost fact sheet) shows the life of the drum at 131K LF, the lasted from TCS shows the life at 80K LF. Which one is right? 80K LF is the same yield as the 240W and the other analogs. If it is 80K LF, this makes this

I personally have a bad taste in my mouth for this option. I'll need to read up on it to see if they've corrected what caused my deal to go bad, but at the time the GBC had a time out of about a minute, it was not an option to be used on the print driver. Hopefully these have been addressed.

This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Last Week of January 2004)

This week and last week have been a tough go for me.  Packing everything into the end of 2019 and getting the flu right before Christmas has taken it's toll for orders in January.  Thank goodness quarters are 3 months! I had a great pipeline for January, however almost I couldn't get much of it to move.  Okay so I have an even better pipeline for February thus it's time to make things happen!

There is a work around that is not sanctioned by Ricoh. You must take the staple cartridge out of the SR 860 and then defeat the sensor that tells the SR 860 that the staple cartridge has been removed. Or just remove the staple from the cartridge and defeat the sensor that tells the system it is out of staples. Make sure you try this with your techs blessing. How do you replace a 700P with SR85 Bookletmaker

I have a customer with tandem 700P's with one connected to an SR85 with Trimmer. Each 700P is running 65K/mo. Here is the dilema...2075 doesn't have an optional bookletmaker (don't bring up the SR861 Saddle Stitch Finisher, it's not the same) and even if we could afford tandem 2090's, my service department won't let me put them in at that low a volume. I tried a single 2105 to replace both 700P's but the customer won't give up the redundency of dual units and the advantages of dual copy/print

This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago (Last Week of December 2009)

The time was about 4:30PM on the 23rd of this month.  I had just left the office and was on my way home after submitting three orders that day. I had another verbal on an order and was waiting on docs to come to me. If I did receive the docs I could process from the home office.  It was the end of a very good year. I had a short chat with my VP of Sales in the car about the day. A great comment was made about my "drive" and that meant a lot especially at this point in my sales career.

Great threads from 10 years ago this week are below!

I brought this topic up earlier, and it was a genuine concern for the prospect, as they are 90% Mac, and their current Canon systems have PS3 Emulation which slows the systems down. However, being that adding the genuine PS3 to each system averaged $1,000 per machine, and the price difference between the MP C5000 & MP C6000, they decided that the pain wasn't great enough to pay an extra $200 per month and went w/ a combination of Konica-Minolta color & Kyocera b/w gear.

In this case, I would have tried to lead with two units, like you suggested the mono copier and the color printer. However, I would also have asked these two questions: How often do you copy and original? Most places do not copy that often and if you can get them to agree to this, then you have a chance of leading them to an A4 copy solution and an A3 print

Strictly looking at the difference between the MP C6000 and MP C5000, you made the right choice to go with the higher speed model at those volumes. Obviously there is a significant difference in HW price (apples and oranges), but the MP C6000 should have a lower CPP that makes up that difference. Assuming a BW click that is 2 mils cheaper on the MP C6000 and a color click that is a penny cheaper, that equates to a savings of $160, making the monthly delta only $40 vs $200. Am I missing

Before we were a Canon dealer I called on so many customers who would not even talk to us because they were so loyal to Canon, many saying we had no chance to earn their business until we had Canon. Several have come on board with us over the last few years since we got the product.

We've had some issues with the software, most if not all were resolved with a recent update. I too agree, that the software should be an option. We are at a crossroads with the W3601, meaning, what is the upgrade path? I just recently upgraded a W3601 to a W3601. I was lucky, because the account is very loyal, understanding and no one else could get in. Of course that will not be the same with additional accounts. This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Second Week of December 2004)

My apologies for not blogging as much in recent weeks. It's that end of year thing, and I'm still looking to hit some numbers/ I suffered a set back (kinda ) today when a client told me there was a new rule in place for purchases above ten grand. Yeah I know what that means, competitive quotes need to be gathered. It happens and I understand what I don't understand is why I can't catch a break every now and then. Seems the month, the quarter and the year is going to come down to the wire AGAIN!

The document server is a standard function on a Ricoh 650 copier. Make sure that you have not selected document server but rather the copy function key on the left hand side. If your control panel shows original modes on left, copy functions in the center and finishing options on the right then you have the right screen. Just to check the machine out you could hit the "user tools/counter" key and print a count page. Hope this helps you out.

on our B2C products you can send a print job to it and there is an SP code that will tell you what the coverage amount is for each color. Of the ones that I have run they have all been between 9% and 13% when you add the total of the 4 colors. Usually with black only it is closer to the 10% level. Jason is correct in how to resize the drawing. It should also be to scale and I would suggest as he said to let them measure with a ruler and confirm. As to highlighting a certain area of the document and printing only that portion, that can be done in the scantools by scanning the document as a tiff and opening up the editor. Once open you can crop and save as the new document which contains only the portion you wish to print. Just go to add an entry in plotbase and find the new tiff file

This is an email from one of my sources. Just talked to my "mole" within one of the larger regional HP providers. Here's the real scoop on the 4345 mfp: FCOT = 4 seconds Cost per page = $.014 from HP for service, supplies and 4 hour response. The engine is the HP LJ 4300 reworked to print right to left instead of back to front. CPC is high for a copier but the hardware price is half the cost of a copier mfp.

, AutoCad will perform it's "regeneration" and then send the images to Plotclient Win. You will actually see the Plotclient Win application launch without human intervention and the AutoCad files will drop into the area for Entries. Within Plotclient, you will then need to set the number of collated sets that you desire and then press the printer icon. The job is actually sent from Plotclient Win to the SSL folder and then printer from PB Server.

I was looking at the new firmware for the Konica Minolta 4e Series MFP's and noticed that they will now support AirPrint for Apple i devices. This ability was available through the current PageScope Mobile App.I have installed the new firmware and got it working. It does work a lot better as you do not have to get your email or pictures through the PageScope Mobile App in order to print. One thing the PageScope Mobile App does allow you to do is scan back to your mobile device were AirPrint

World War II veteran brought copy machines to Grand Rapids

Commercial Equipment Company, the Grand Rapids firm Reed founded in 1957, placed tens of thousands of copy and printing equipment in offices across West Michigan over six decades. The Thermo fax copier, the first model he sold, produced smelly paper that needed to be peeled back one copy at a time. Eventually the technology evolved to machines that could print in color, fax

Cost per copy on Xerox units

·
I have a colleague who is working with an existing account. This account received a competitive quote on a Xerox color mfp. The kicker on the quote is that color will be billed at .07 and all b/w clicks are free with no minimums. Has anyone else seen this, or know what game they are up to? My first thought is that they will bill on developments and just divide the .07 across the 4 colors. Any feedback would be appreciated.

At this point you are just getting information to build a pipeline of business for the future. Tell your prospects that up front. It will help them relax and probably get you lease dates. #3 Ask for help from your Sharp rep. They should be more than glad to help you with selling their stuff. They run Google Apps For Education on about 400 devices. Printing is all done through Google Chrome. The benefits for a school district to do this are amazing. Re: OEM Programs: Allow Dealers to Partner with Other Dealers for MFP Support

I think Canon has made it the easiest IMO. We have done some with the Ricoh product but our warehouse and purchasing people find it a nightmare compared to Canon. Canon has a set price for each machine. Sometimes you can stick to it, other times on thin deals you can't. Most of the dealers we deal with are willing to work wtih us on the install fees. With Canon we get send the dealer and Install agreement and then they send us their dealer code. Once we have that it gets put with the order and

@ Art Kyocera is the OEM. This is more cost effective than 3rd party solutions because of the licensing is one time on the machine with unlimited users with no additional upgrades or support costs. This would be a simplified version of some of the things PaperCut can do as far as cost tracking and limiting users to specific jobs. This also allows for access to print jobs by swiping a QR code on the device with your smart phone. As I understand it you only need to put a pin # in once and then it

from what I see, we have a network of dealers that we do business with. They ship systems into our territory, we ship them to theirs. In the past at least for Ricoh there was a DMAP program. Not sure if it still exists, problem was that Ricoh was giving that service to Ricoh Business Systems. Thus before the company I work for was bought, we would make or own contacts and work out our own deals. Note: If you did not specify a servicing dealer with your DMAP order then Ricoh Business Systems

I do a lot of this. I avoid like the plague using Ricoh Direct. I take the time to locate a Ricoh Family Group Independent Dealer, I send for signature an Inner-territorial agreement that spells out the who, what, and where's as well as the how much. Ricoh has established maintenance minimums and I find that as long as I am above that everything goes smoothly. When you place the order you designate the servicing dealer and Ricoh ships the unit to them and deposits the installing dealer credits

The cost structure is based on the contract which may be US Communities, SAS, NCPG (now Ministry Resource). Ricoh adds to the cost the dealer install fee and credits the installing dealer that fee.

@ Color1 Is this a Xerox agent or Authorized Dealer? If it is an agent then I don't see how they are doing it since Xerox sets the pricing and handles all of the maintenance. They would never do a all bw page included deal under the Xerox mother ship. I have seen this with a local competitor (dealer) in my area. They simply play the odds and add the projected monthly black and white clicks into the lease. The whole unlimited "free black and white" sounds so good until you start calculating the
