This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago, The Second Week in November 2003

So it was fifteen years ago that Ricoh launched the first GBC puncher.  I remember it well, chads were evenly distributed through out the entire device!  One of my accounts had to vacuum their GBC puncher once a week.

OK, here is the Stupid Question: Are they scanning the docs in on their Docutech? I don't believe they can. Then, it is a software issue. All you are doing is changing the delivery system by which the documents get from paper form to electronic form. What they do with those documents after they scan them into their system has nothing to do with what machine scanned them in, or what machine they will be printed on. I've done the 2035's. If they want to view them on the web browser, you have to set the machine up to store instead of print the faxes. This setup in under the Fax function in the User Tools. Then all you have to do is type in the IP address in your browser and it will find the machine. Select the fax, and then you can view the stored faxes.

I saw this system demo'd @ Ricoh several years ago. Its development name is Ruby. As you can see from the picture, it is the same design style as the JP5000/5450, thus an older unit, not new. It also only supports UC6 and CPIF26, because it does not have the updated main board to support the Type 80. The product was deemed not suitable for the US market due to the fact that is doesn't have a large capacity exit tray to match the LCT, and the sorter limits you to run lengths of 40 per original

This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago, The Second Week in September 2003

Haha!  Something pretty funny in with one of the links below. "Moving closer to the paperless office".  This was fifteen years ago.

Do you remember the Ricoh C1224? Was a color MFP that had a speed of 12 pages per minute in color and 24 pages per minute in black.  Needless to say that Ricoh never informed sales that the copier would go into auto calibrate during a print or copy run for up to minutes!  Relive that experience with the threads below

You will not be able to print from the DOC server or use anything like scan router, DTB etc. Just remember, all of the applications that come with it are windows based and all you can really do is print and scan to email if their network will support it. However, we have successfully sold "Bate Stamping" on lessor units using a compination of User Stamp and Page Numbering. FAILURE IS JUST A STATE OF MIND

My sales manager says you always walk awayfrom a failed sales attempt with something. Can you explain? Your sales manager is suggesting that you can learn from every sales experience regardless of the outcome. The key is knowing how to evaluate your efforts. Consider these ideas: • Victory . The best situation is a customer who says "yes." To have this happen more often, do your research, polish your sales skills, and prepare thoroughly. Remember, we can learn from our successes, too. There's an interesting thread below about the Riso V8000 which was a dual color single pass duplicator. At the time I was selling the Ricoh products and all we had was the Ricoh TCII. Where Riso developed a single device that was able to print colors, Ricoh came out with an optional slave device.  You could not print to the Ricoh TCII, in order to get two colors in a single pass, you had to make the masters on a single color Ricoh duplicator.  Once the masters were made you then had to transfer the drums with the masters to the slave unit.  Not the best scenario, however I was able to quite a few of these in printshops.

Re: 400 DPI IMAGE MOVEMENT!!!

We must not forget the Riso V8000 2-color single-pass system. I also can't speak for registration variance Riso vs Ricoh nor TC-II vs. 2 passes. I'm mearly suggesting that it makes for a compelling argument...whether it actually holds water, I don't know. Riso quotes a +or- one millimeter as an "acceptible variance on their current product line not counting the V8000. I don't sell the Ricoh nor do I compete against it so I can't speak to the registration or lack thereof.

Re: 400 DPI IMAGE MOVEMENT!!!

I thought that 1 mm would be acceptable as well. I think that it is hard to compete trying to sell a dup and a tc11 when there is competitive 1 pass system that will lay two colors well and consistently. I wonder if, in the long term, the RICOH will stay consistent with a certain margin on movment, and the riso will start going all over the place. That I do not know, but that is the argument my higher ups are sticking to. I appreciate everyones input. Thanks again, Brian

printer's 5 percent as an "average" toner yield, partly because of the e-mails that are printed. Slawetsky has tested this theory on a limited basis and found it to be close to the truth — for printers. However, the problem for the copier dealer is that people do not run to the copier to make 50 copies of their e-mails. They run to the device to make copies of brochures, PowerPoint and other toner-eating documents. Printer resellers do not get the "copier headache" because a lot of their sales are

Ricoh has instituted printer kits for some of the existing models to make ordering easier for the dealer and themsleves. "kits" include nic, memory and printer controller. You do have a point in reference to the NIC still being on the RMAP pricing, however this could be for "add ons" (exisiting systems that need the nic only. Art

I have a customer who is printing duplexed invoices, about 3,000 at a time, and about halfway thru 6 to 10 of them will print backwards, then they will correct themselves and print the correct way. I believe it is in the program itself, but the customer needs to make sure it is not a problem on our end. The system is also loaded with Memory Thanks

Re: Need Answer ASAP on 1055 Printer Kit

Mike, I think you're going to get "burned" again. If the 1055 printer "kit" truly included nic and memory, then why is the nic price itemized, as well as the memory? There are no notes stating that the kit includes any of that. The RMAP pricing notes is always the place I go to for answers like that. No mention whatsoever. I think we should post this question on Aficio League, and see what kind of answer we get from Dave Callahan.

This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago, The Fourth Week in June 2003

Fifteen years ago, hard to believe that many of us have seen so much come and go during those years.
The Ricoh Aficio 1224 was an A3 color device that printed 12 pages per minute in color and 24 pages per minute in black.  We had some horrific problems with speed when the Ricoh 1224 would go into an auto calibration during a print or copy run. It would take up to 5 minutes to calibrate and then restart the print job, and yes we had many frustrated users because we weren't aware of how the 1224 calibrated.  Too boot Ricoh also never made us aware of the issues.
Enjoy the threads from 15 years ago this week!

Continued 1224 stuff...

·
1000 copies for calibration versus 200 is consistent color quality on long runs ... but then again if you are selling this for long run jobs, well you just placed this system outside of its intended target ... the general office volumes up to 8,000 per month. The setting for check toner every 50 copies? I would suggest that your technicians check with Ricoh tech support for a recommendation in making changes. Afterall, we sales personnel are not technicians. But we need to make them aware of these

I was told by somebody (I'll withhold the name) at Ricoh that we could add the LCT on the 3800CMF. It is an option on the 3800C printer option, but it makes the CMF too tall (not industry compliant), that is why Ricoh says only 1,600 sheet capacity. He has seen dealers sell the 3800CMF with the LCT trays and increase the capacity to 3,100 sheets, in order to compete, with the only negative being the height. Hope this helps!

I am seeing Xerox offer zero minimum plans at $ 0.089 for an all inclusive service agreement. When comparing the 6513 make sure that you are using a densitometer to calibrate your print controller. Before calibrating the print controller make certain that your 6513 has not been calibrated from the factory default settings. Your service tech should be able to show you how to "wipe" clean the calibration on the 6513. This will help you achieve optimal quality. One thing you may want to point

address as fast as the Riso can send the copies. The Riso prints the non-variable image and exits the document to the MX1200. The exiting document triggers the MX1200 to print the next address. The Risograph is not doing anything different than it ever does. That is why I contend that the same printer rolled up to the back of a PriPort would do the same thing.
