This Week in the Copier Industry Ten Years Ago
Last Week of September 2011
It's Saturday evening and a nice night to kick back a bit. My 4th quarter and maybe my last quarter that's on Monday. Have a great weekend!

The end of a great week and one more left in September for me. This will end the 3rd quarter for 2021 with one quarter left for the year. I am still amazed at has fast the months travel buy and can only think it like would time past just as fast if I was on a deserted tropical beach
Pretty much now time to play catch up on the world! Still need to finish September in the hunt for the end of the year.
I arrived home on September 3rd. After 8 days in the Hospital it's taking me a little bit of time to get my bearings straight. Every day seems to be better and better and the regiment for the future is a consistent follow up with my doctors. I plan to continue to work and back to selling within a few weeks.
It was ten years ago this week when NJ felt the effects of Hurricane Irene, today we escaped the effects of Henri since the storm jogged east last night. However Rhode Island and parts of Mass took a direct hit.
Stay turned for tomorrow (Sunday) Premium/VIP video! I'll be much of my knowledge about leasing programs, when and where they will work along with some other neat talk tracks I've developed over the years.
Are copier companies and the paper manufacturers noticing a declining demand with more people feeling comfortable reading documents with their smartphones and laptops?
My response to the above Quora thread today: We’ve seen a 20–30% decrease in printed pages since the pandemic started, we are seeing some recovery with many getting back to the office. Interesting that there has been an increase of pages printed with healthcare of 12% in our market place. Just recently paper companies also posted and increase in demand for cut sheets. We’ll never get back to pre-pandemic printed pages levels and it’s been a declining industry for the last few years.
There wont be much typing on this one since I had an accident while do maintenance in my yard. Seem that good ole trimmer decided to take the tip of my finger off.

If there is nothing to do on a rainy Saturday, might I suggest a scouting day for you. Plan a couple of of routes on roads less traveled in your territory and do a search for businesses on those less traveled roads. Pick out a vertical or two, and then off you go, make sure to bring your business cards and take photos (for calling later). If there are cars in the lot then why not go in and introduce your self!
Our Independence Day weekend has come to an end. What a great way to celebrate and what a great way to start the last six months of fiscal 2021. The prospected that's done during the summer will be you're 4th quarter bonus!
Below is a email I received from a P4P Hotel member the other day.
For the last two or three years investment companies have been buying independent copier dealerships. We've been seeing this all throughout the United States and I know of others in other parts of the world.
The conversation with an industry professional that is smarter than me he suggested that this is a Wall Street ploy being architected by the investment community. The goal is to purchase several different companies and package them together to sell to a major player like Xerox or HP. Imagine an investment company that is purchased 250 million or $500 million worth of independent dealers and then sold them to Xerox. It's not unlike one IKON was sold to Ricoh. It would be a gigantic shift in the market place.., more here
Here in the United States when you think about Direct Branch operations it was all about Xerox, Konica Minolta and Ricoh. Those three were the heavy hitters. With Ricoh selling of a lot of direct operations a couple of years ago. In addition with the recent sell of some of the Konica Minolta direct branches the question becomes will we see movement now from Toshiba? It would only be a guess, but I'm thinking we'll see some movement before the end of 2021.
Tomorrow is the last day of the month for me in May. I have one small order to book, however that still leaves me $7K short of my monthly quota. I still have two $60K opps out there however one has been in the weeds for three weeks and the other opp is in the weeds for a week. Both will get calls and emails, and after 41 years of doing this I still can't fathom why and existing client or net new won't give you the courtesy of an email or a phone call.
Never in my wildest dream did I ever believe I would have stayed in the copier industry for forty plus years. It was 1998 and the age of forty-one that had my first glimpse of sixty some-thing still sling copiers. I remember it well and stating I don't want to be that guy. I am now that guy and if I asked would I change anything? My reply would be hell no!
