Ricoh: Getting Ready to Rumble

Same can happen here with Paradigm, there are very fee players in the wide format low volume scan, copy and print, as a matter of fact I can name only three, Paradigm, HP (over priced) and Canon (over priced and support is so, so, they are too involved with copiers) What I'm tryin to tell everyone is that this is a win WIN, you get leads, no competetion, you sell the system and then you retain them as a customer and then sell them your MFP products down the road.

Do they have some sort of embedded forms on the printers HDDs? If so, can those same forms be installed on other manufacturers printers. If the print workflow is printer-centric (vs all controlled via server/software) then, you would need to research if the same printer controls will be available to Ricohs. If it is all server-based data and forms merger, then the output files should be fairly easy to test. If you are not "reinventing the wheel" for them, then plugging a device should be easy

Re: Need your help!!

·
Seems an easy way to test this would be to have the customer capture the print file and send it to you. This has the added benefit of telling you if the output is PS or PCL. Then you send it to the Ricoh and see what comes out. If it looks perfect, then it's not printer centric, if it doesn't look good (or more likely, doesn't print), there's something needed on the printer.

Geez, I do not believe they have embedded forms on the hard driver, however I will ask. I did just get off the phone with Pitney Bowes support and told them that I had the Pitney Bowes Mail Server and my printer failed, and asked if I could install any printer that had emulated HP. They said that would work, problem with hooking up another printer is that the account is about 1,300 miles away. This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago (Second Week of July 2009)

It was ten years ago this week for the Ricoh "cleansing". These times were the months after Ricoh had acquired Ikon.  Many great long time Ricoh peeps lost their jobs and were replaced by many Ikon peeps.  GMAN paints an accurate picture of the "cleansing" in the thread titled "Cleansing".  That is below or you can read it here.

It's still my belief that when Ricoh cut the deal for Ikon, one of the covenants of the deal was that many Ikon Execs had to stay on for x amount of time.

thanx, I found this late last night on the ricoh-usa site: Support for third party billing systems — Ricoh is partnering with PrinterOn and WebPay Services Aps (WPS) to enable hosted billing solutions so that the system can count the number of pages, calculate the job cost, and initiate a credit card billing sequence. When sending a job from a PC the service is called WebPay. When sending from a handheld device it is called MobilePay.

Re: Hot Spot Printers

Not sure I understand your question. As far as billing a charge for prints, there is only 1 company. That's the service fee you are paying, to have the printer have an account at that company. I have no idea what company that is, but it doesn't really matter since it's not like you can switch to a different company.

It couldn't be that the "normal" retirement age for men in Japan is 60, and that Mr. Yoshida is now past that age? I just got the new pricing on it. list is 17k for 1 roll printer, 5k for scanner, $850 for 2nd roll and $850 for pdf. I heard kip lowered the price on the 3000 to dampen any plotwave sales. yes the street price should be around 13k plus delivery and install--- for now. any dealer that bought into the intro price can do that. 2 roll ,color stf ,pdf. price was suppose to go up after the irga. so street price will be around 13,900 and up. Re: Rumor Oce Plotwave 13K List

It's a single footprint unit with color scan capability. I'm told it uses a graphtec-built scanner. MSRP starts around $17K, options drive that to the mid twenties. Dealer cost with volume discounts could be down to the lower teens. (So if Ricoh direct were selling this product, it would no doubt be on the street for $9900!)

Here's my question to Ricoh, when the heck are you going to revamp the W2400, give us color scanning, usb printing, and lower the MSRP so we can be competetive again!!! We are losing installed units to the competition and your market share is now eroding. Heck, this system will have street pricing at $16k or less with color scan!!!!!! Here's an idea, take the w2400 and slow the speed to 2ppm "D" size. Bring the MSRP down to $6995 for the base machine, and this allow up to replace low end inkjet

well said Chuck; I think sometimes we get so focused on the things that don't really matter that we tend to forget what we're really paid to do. Competition will always be out there and sometimes it won't always be fair. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. You want to be a box salesman then you'll always gripe when someone sells something at cost to get the deal. Those people who are in the market are the ones that will more than likely be looking for multiple proposals

I have always clashed with the sales model used for DM. Why not just let the customer pay for it with credit card directly? If a rep is responsible for the sale, then give them a percentage cut on their Ricoh card as long as the customer is paying. I would recommend the book "Getting Insude Your Customers Head" by Kevin Davis. It has made a huge difference in the way I approach sales from my past. Does this slow down the sales process? YES! But when you consider that on average you're fortunate to close 1 in 5 "new business" prospects and this process has changed it to at least 3 in 5, that's huge. Keep it up Brian...it'll work out in the end.

Heard today that Ricoh is developing a system that is defaulted single click 11x17 color system. I think this is in response to the purchase of IKON, and the need to compete in HV color market. But there has go to be a low cost ink printer out there. Maybe look for a printer where the user can change the fuser, instead of waiting for service. Anyone else have any ideas?

The observations provided by 'Old Glory' concerning Vision 2008 are similar to the general feedback from the Savin Connections 2009 National Dealer Sales Meeting during February 2009. This Savin Connections had the lowest Dealer attendance ever, even with tremendous change within Ricoh and the industry. The tone was somewhat more somber and the length of the meeting was cut down to two days.

Understood, but it is common knowledge that Ricoh B2C products do not like glossy paper period. Overtime this will cause major jamming issues and disgruntled clients. I suggest going to a paper warehouse and grabbing samples closest to glossy which will work on Ricoh's. I know for a fact the closest is Xerox Silk paper which can be purchased up to 80lb cover or index.

The issue is the toner. It has wax in it and what happens is that it coats the developer roller and causes light and dark copies. The techs have to clean the stuck toner off of the roller and it will work for a time. My understanding is that the new toner will fix the problem. Ricoh has a developer kit that they sent to us to help with a large istall base of MP5000's but it is only a temp fix until the new toner gets here. They want you buy it and it costs $600.00

The new canon 6800 is 68ppm bw, and 16ppm color. Quality is strictly business color. The 3100 is 31ppm bw, and 7ppm color. It is not a replacement for the 3200. Both are single drum systems using their existing amorphous silicon drum. The quality will be not nearly as good as the 3200 and with much slower color speed.

When we had the product launch for these new color systems the product manager from ricoh-usa put on the "show" and told us that there would no longer be starter toners. Because the starter toners in the 24 and 32's gave so little yield we have been building in a full set of toners at the start.

In this clients environment most users were to print via regular LAN Ethernet, but the reason I sold it was some users that were not always in the office, would like to just walk up to the machine with their notebook and print...simply enough right. Nope apparently, it was an either or scenario, either you go all wireless and use the Rioch wireless or all LAN but not both at once! Last one I sell I guess. So I

So you were going to use two different network interfaces, a wireless and ethernet? To use the notebook computers directly to the wireless without going through the network, you would be setting up an AdHoc wireless network between the copier and notebooks. I read that article and it stated that the district or classrooms were using all inkjet printers. I'm sure there will be a savings however I would love to have the chance to figure out my own solution for them. I'm thinking, there's got to be a better way and a more cost effective way than 380 laser printers.

Best of luck to Xerox - ComDoc in attempting to flip the Ricoh base to Xerox machines. Ricoh will take away financial support from Dealers to support IKON and RBS with winning the business, which has been the long-term strategy. The ComDoc situation has only accelerated the need to support IKON and RBS and move away from Independent Dealers. Art has found examples in his neck of the woods already and the markets covered by IKON and RBS that ComDoc possessed, will be attacked with aggressive

Rules of thumb...sell nothing but the need for an appointment on a phone call or initial call. Also never "sell" during your fact-finding for several reasons: 1.) The fact-finding process gets interrupted or stopped. 2.) You come across like a dog salivating over fresh meat. 3.) You tip your hand and lose some of the thunder you will get from your proposal. 4.) You inspire additional questions and thought processes that the prospect will then discuss with competitors. 5.) The drivers for the color MFPs support lengths up to 23.62" through the bypass tray. The color printer drivers support up to 49" paper through the bypass. If you use the printer driver on the MFP, you can get them to print banners. Just keep in mind that if there is an issue, you are using the wrong driver, so don't expect service to be very accommodating.

Think about trying to secure and account and the CEO, CFO or owner asks this question to the dealer sales person. How do I know that your company will not be bought out by or sold? Puppy Dog

The car sales trainer ‘puppy dog’ close is used when you have a product that you can let you client try for a short period. You want to use this one as the last resort; it’s best to close them without the ‘puppy dog’, however, don’t lose the sale by being stubborn. Qualify them as a 90%’er and let them try it. And yes, I am using the ‘puppy dog’ close on you with this car sales training class. By letting you see a sample of what's in the book, I’m hopeful you will like the sales cross-training

independently on serval pc's, that IT would have to support. If it's only installed in one place (print server) and it has a problem, once i fix the issue there printing is then restored to everyone. After you install the printer on a server you share it the use the syntax to connect to it as \\servername\printer name. You can even email a link to everyone within the organization to install it. The end user simply click's the link and they are prompted to install it with one click. Hope this makes sense.

Assume Content

Whatever automotive sales training may have taught you in the past about the assume consent close, I challenge you to keep an open mind about the new look and feel of the close as described here. First, let’s look at the past ‘assume consent’ close and how it was used. Long ago, prospects were not as educated as they are today. Car salespeople were also not as respected as they are today. The single most important point of a close, back then, was to get the objection out so you could cover it

Re: Ricoh 240w print options ?

The print card that was originally with the unit has a serial number that any print, pdf, or scan oprions originally purchased are tied to (via the serial number). That card is worth $1500 - $3000. It's worth tracking down if possible. Otherwise, I think "wide format guy" or Ratio America (http://www.ratioamerica.com) might be able to help you with a print card and options.

Re: Good old Wells Fargo

·
I have had my fair share of Wells Fargo. I don't have any business with them now for that sole reason of the Letter of Intents. The only way my "former" customer could get out of the WF lease was to take them to small claims court. I learned a valuable lesson that the customer expects the salesperson to handle any and all questions from the leasing company. If the customer did not do what you told them to do on sending the letter in, it is still the salesperson's fault. If you want to keep
