This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago, The Second Week in September 2003

I took the time to re-read and correct some of the grammar and spelling issues that plagued me from many years ago. I'm a copier sales person and not an English major. Please excuse typo's or grammar.  Anyway, I must have wrote this after the Ricoh purchase of Ikon and the title "MFP Wars". After the re-read, I realized that we're still fighting the MFP Wars, whether it's the low cost per pages that are low balled or the continuing battle of A3 vs A4. Somethings never change.

This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago, The First Week in August 2008

A little of news this week is that the US Dollar is growing stronger vs the Japanese Yen.  When this has happened in the past Japanese copier manufacturers have decreased pricing here in the States.  When you couple this with the Chinese tariffs that may go into effect this week, it could mean that our industry may not see price increases.  Japanese manufacturers might just bite the bullet on the increases in order to keep boxes moving out of the plants.

I understand. However, I don't want each user to have to configure their default to b & w or have to remember to choose b&w everytime they print. If I just restrict color, it will result in jobs not printing as opposed to just printing in b&w. The work around I've devised is to install a print driver for a b&W mfp (Savin 9025/33) with similar options for them to use for black only users/jobs.

I have to believe that if you told them that they are stuck with it at that price that they will reconsider. Our goal is that the sales cost needs to be 25% of the street price of new. This is why I don't like General Guides If a customer is using DHCP, simply picking a higher number is not safe. You (and your contact at the customer) may not be aware of other factors. There may be a different class of devices (such as servers or printers or whatever) that is placed into a higher DHCP range. If you want to be perfectly safe when the customer is on DHCP, their IT should provide you with an IP. Of course, I've grabbed a seemingly open IP in order to get he printer working too .

I am somewhat surprised this has not had any responses. Here's a case where the local RICOH Business Solutions Office was acquired by a local dealership. Must've been a rather underperforming branch office. Does anyone know of other situations like this. This could be used to create doubt in prospects minds that they're dealing with "the manufacture" - "So what guarantees does that give you Mr. Customer . . . yada, yada, yada"!

This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago, The Second Week in June 2003

I couldn't help my self and re-read the two HP threads from ten years ago. Back in the day, there was a saying that buyers used to clung too, the saying went like this.  If I buy the Xerox, and even if it doesn't work, no one is going to fault me for buying the Xerox over the Japanese brand. I feel this is the same with HP, even if that HP plotter, printer of copier stinks, the buyer will never hear a word from anyone for not buying the other brand.

Let me inform you of the DISASTER that this can create. The supervisor password should NEVER be accessible for the sales staff or the end-user. The reason for this is if the supervisor password EVER get accidentally changed, (Believe me, sales and customers say that) You CANNOT fix it. You must replace the MAIN board and / or replace the NVRAM which is a nightmare/ and very costly. Just beware of who knows of this specialty login. That is probably why this login has been held in such secrecy

You will increase the speed with the scuzzi, i think dtb and twain is slowing the process down. I have placed one of these in a title company and used the network board and scanned to folder, customer was very happy and the speed was very good. Go with the network board option and mirror what the Xerox is doing.

Re: Used Copier Sales

I think that my used numbers are about 25%-30% of my totals on average per month. My GM makes sure and has a nice selection of used that he buys off lease and they move well. I will often package used into a multiple system deal to keep the overall cost down and customers love it. Not to mention a healthy GP number that comes with selling used.

I downloaded SmartDeviceMonitor from Ricoh and figured out how to import/export the address book and how to back up the existing addresses. Thanks for your help.

Re: Used Copier Sales

My used sales still account for 40% of my monthly sales. Several months ago I upgraded a customer with a 10 machine deal, and I have moved all but 2 of those 10 machines elsewhere. Used machines do help out in multiple machine deals to keep the costs down. We always have a good supply of used machines, or we know where to get them if we need them. Not everyone will buy a used machine, but a good majority will if you offer it as an alternative.

Looking for some feedback about Doc Mall? Is anyone selling this service, and if so how is it working for you and the end user? Is there much money to be made? Thanks in advance for any replies.
