Re: Can any one help with this Xerox question?

SalesServiceGuy ·
One potential "work around" is to check your Print Drivers for "Hold Print". Similar to the idea of "Private/ Secure Print" but without the need for a password, "Hold Print" jobs usually go into their own print queue, are prepripped and allow a user to arrive at the copier at their leisure to make sure all of the necessary paper is in the copier before they release and immediately print their job. Some copier vendors can alter their print drivers to make "Hold Print" the default setting.

Now that you raise the subject of Consumables, Ricoh allows IKON to purchase heavily from KATUN. IKON has always been notorious for buying non-OEM parts and supplies at deep discounts, which is one of the reason they had a poor reputation for service. Yet, it also helped IKON steal many a deal. Possibly, this practice will change for Ricoh products and they will only source Third Party Aftermarket for theie Canon base at this time.

I would like to hear from anyone that has some insight on the new Bizhub color production 80 PPM system. I heard from a customer that they were shown this unit in a "behind the scenes" preview at Print 09 and that KM would be launching it this spring. From what I gathered, they beefed up the g/m² , changed the feeding mechanism, tighter registration and would share the accessories as the b/w 1200 unit. Very curious to see where it is positioned relative to Ricoh's production products.

there is something not standard about that stream.I've tried it before w/ RPCS, PCL/Universal Print Driver, PostScript and all were complete failures. I totally agree. The difficult thing is that all of the dealers & direct ops are trained on the same selling features, so even if we are all showing the same data, RBS/IKON will always give the equipment away for nothing, so while the data is good, the value of a local dealer can only overcome so much when their price is 20% lower.

I agree with Boston Mike's comments on finding out what the prospect is looking for. I have sold the C6501 and C5501 against the Xerox and I have won for certain reasons and lost for other reasons. Xerox has good image quality, but has demonstrated poor paper handling. I disagree that the Xerox 700 has addressed a lot of issues. If you look closely, the 700 engine has not been updated, they are using the same technology as the DC242,252,260 models. The only thing that has been added is a

I don't know about the MP 4001, because we are still liquidating our inventory of MP 4000s, but from a service perspective, the document feeder basically had to have the feeder rebuilt every 100k pages, so that can create some downtime in addition to a higher CPP. Also, there is no print from USB option, it has an ARDF instead of Single-pass Duplex feeder. If there is a Postscript requirement, Ricoh does not have a standard PS3 Emulation, hence requiring a fairly expensive add-on to the system.

Some additional tidbits from the show I was at for the last three days. I learned along time ago that in order to be successful at these types of events that you need to engage with people when they walk by your booth.  You need to greet everyone that walks by and then ask them a question.  The question I asked the  most is where they were from, after getting a response I would then ask if they have a plotter or ask if they've ever seen a white board before.  The questions sparked conversations and lead to many warm leads along with getting to know more about their business.  Plain and simple if you don;t ask you don't get!

Purchasing manager's perspective here. I think that B1116 is talking about two different things when he/she asks about "programs" and "incentives". I can't quite agree with Larry that special pricing contracts such as AEPA (Konica) or US Communities (Ricoh) are incentives; I'd consider them pricing programs. I can see you'd say they are an incentive to the client, who gets to choose between commercial and the discounted contract. But, on the admin side of things, these special contracts aren't

You need to be more specific when you say dealer incentives. What do you mean? From my standpoint some of the programs Ricoh offer are quite good. I am speaking about US Communities, NCPG, and the hospital pricing. These are forms of incentives via pricing discounts. Of course they have ordering specials and discounts that they sometimes pass along. It is usually up to the dealer principals how they choose to pass the incentives along.

Considering Samsung's penchant for allowing other manufacturer's to relabel there product (Xerox & Muratec already relabel their A4) I'm curious as to whether Ricoh's A4 will be made by Samsung or Ricoh, particularly since Ricoh already relabels some Samsung printers. The other relabel option could be Lexmark because of the relationship they have w/ the Ricoh InfoPrint division. I love the new Lexmark A4 products offered to their BSD partners, by the way.

If they could get away with just basic scanning, all Konica Minolta MFPs can "talk" to Alchemy (or any other software requiring scanning) via the twain driver. This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago (Third Week of December 2004)

We've all been there, but it really sucks when it happens.

On Wednesday I had an appointment that was a 2 hour drive.  Yup, it was a lead and a wide format lead at that.  The client had interest to buy or lease now and wanted to meet.  I left an hour early for that appointment because it's not often that I'm in that area of New Jersey and wanted to make sure I was on time. In addition I could make a pit stop, scout the area for some knocking on doors.  I was 45 minutes out when the client emailed me and stated he had to leave the office and was not feeling well.  Yup that's a bummer, however the client wanted to meet on Thursday of Friday of this week.

On Wednesday we emailed back and forth and scheduled for today at 11AM.  This time I was okay with arriving 10 minutes early. I arrived 15 minutes early, sat in the car and went though some emails.  Couple minutes later and I was out of the car and at the front door.  Frak, the door was locked, thus I knocked. No answer,  I stood there for another 5 minutes and knocked again. Nothing.....I then got out my cell phone and called the office, the call went to voice mail (I did leave a message). Went back to my car and pulled my car right in front of the office so I could see if anyone walked in. Fifteen minutes later I sent and email and then sent a text. No response for anything!

I had a little bit of time and decided to wait another 20 minutes just in case he would show. After waiting almost and hour, I called it quits and drove to my 2PM appointment.  WTF!  5 hours wasted in one day and I only had two selling days left.  Can't wait to see if I get an email or a call on Monday.

Enjoy these super threads from ten years ago this week!

For example, when a hunter shops for a shotgun, he'll need shells, but might need a vest, boots and socks and maybe a hand-warmer, too. Customers for copier-printers can get the basic box

Maybe "Santa rally" in economy will bring copier customers The U.S. economy is moving into the holidays with 15 months of job growth, rising stock prices and oil prices dropping. Maybe the "Santa rally" Wall Street investors want could result in end-of-year copier-printer sales boost, but only time will tell. The U.S. economy added 2.2 million jobs since August 2003. The unemployment rate of 5.4 percent didn't increase from October to November, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of

If you adding files from a disk given to you, you would not know what the files looked like unless you could see the thumbnails or individually launch each one. This would be time consuming. The whole idea behind using Plotclient WIN to print the PDF's is so that you do not have to launch and print each one individually. that is the way it is. You can not view PDF files in plotclient win. You can view them in plotbase. You could open in Reader and then print with the WP driver if you need to view before printing. Assuming that they're on the same WAN & that it's a Ricoh system, you can set it up to Scan to FTP, but instead of an FTP address, set the destination as the IP address of the printer they want it to print on. This also works great if you have a customer that needs to make color copies but doesn't want a full color MFP. You can color scan to FTP on the MFP and set the destination to a color printer, resulting in a color copy.

Re: Dealer and Direct Branch Counts

Thanks Chuck, I came up with 114 RBS locations based on Ricoh's July GSA, but it doesn't seem to adding up in terms of authorized dealers (just 143). I tracked down a count from Vision 2007 and Ricoh, L & S had 664. Considering the number of authorized dealers probably didn't expand too much, I'm going with that as a rough estimate for now. still open to suggestions and clarifications though....

Re: Dealer and Direct Branch Counts

·
Surely that 143 does not count IKON locations and your numbers may be suspect due to a dealers having multiple locations etc., etc. Also are you looking for JUST Ricoh or are you considering RFG locations/dealers. I also know that IKON uses a Phone Number/Home address of individuals as a "location" ergo, that throws off your count too.

that 4% of PAPER sold in the US is 11x17, which is totally different. If the average customer used 11x17 4% of the time, and assuming 1,000 pages a day, that's 40 pages of 11x17 at every customer, every day. Of course in reality, lots of customers print 80-100 11x17 pages a day, and some certainly print 0, but there are still many applications that call for 11x17.

Interesting approach to the sales process. Strikes me the next promo is for 10% below sticker price...of course unlike cars, manufacturers don't put a sticker price on MFP's to advise the public what the price is supposed to be. At this point we find the margin we are able to obtain on most sales of hardware barely covers the cost of sales for the product...any business profits come from services bundled around the hardware, either connectivity plans, support plans, supplies for colour etc

Secondly, why do you need it to be PDF? If it's for printing to a ricoh wide format, could they use a PDF print driver to drop the file into a folder for the Rioch to grab it from?

Re: Competing against the Xerox 4127 b/w production print system?

but again,,,,who would sell a unit like this for that volume? It doesn't make sense... When we carried the Konica High End Line - I had a customer running about 1.5 millions a month, with coverage that came back around 1% on 40% of the jobs and 17& on 60%...The machine ran horrible when they did low coverage, and we had to retrofit a toner recyling vacuum pack. At the end I added 2 additoinal 1050's and 2 6500's w/ a micro press.. I don't know what its rated for but I never sold against that

Konica Minolta had a pretty good showing for this Poll on the RFG p4photel. I did not think of that until this recent discussion. Both have solid Product Lines.

Ok I got the Java and the print director embedded installed fine. The customer wants to be able to track scans and fax also. According to the jobs list I did not do any scanning though I know I did. I found something the referanced an "Enhanced External Counter SDK" but cannot figure out where to download. Ricoh says it is part of the Java card. In the Administrator tab I see an option for this "Enhanced External Counter" but cannot see where to turn it on as it is greyed out. Ricoh has

For example, we heard that XEROX had an army of 'bloggers' trolling the internet to promote the ColorQube and to combat any critical assessments. The p

I'm with Art. I think the A4 systems are in the market to stay and soon everyone will have them. Samsung will also have A3 systems within the next 18 months to be able to offer them with the A4's on bids and tenders. We shouldn't forget old HP when we have this discussion...they still collect more clicks in NA than any other manufacturer and they are seriously getting into the managed print business. It seems to me it is going to come down to who is going to gaurantee the client the toner
