I'm working on setting up an MFP to scan and copy at the same time. Not finished yet, but this uses the PDF Direct Print option on the MFP. This is a nice feature that has some limited application but may come in handy in the right situation. I've attached notes on how I did this if anyone would like to play with it. It certainly caused a rather heated conversation between me and one of my customers before we found out about it. In that case, it was really hard to say whose fault the problem was. The MFP was just clicking as it was instructed from the application, but the application was just doing what the file told it to and the file had been made by the MFP. We just agreed to a credit (since they hadn't used color toner in making the print) and changed their drivers back to defaulting to black.
I arrived home on September 3rd. After 8 days in the Hospital it's taking me a little bit of time to get my bearings straight. Every day seems to be better and better and the regiment for the future is a consistent follow up with my doctors. I plan to continue to work and back to selling within a few weeks.

We default every color device we install to black & white. Are we losing some revenue on CPP contracts as a result? Of course we are. I think we're talking about the same thing in different terms to a certain extent just using different examples. Do the newer printers/MFP's still print black using all colors if "Color" is selected in the driver? If so, then you're right that they would spend the same regardless of the type of contract. If only the black cartridge is used to print black even if "Color" is selected in the driver, then they would spend far more on a toner-inclusive agreement than if they were not under contract
& white and I print 50 copies I'm going to get charged for 5150 color pages when actually I only wanted to print 150 pages in color?!? Even at 6 cents a page for color that's a difference of $300. That's nothing to sneeze at. Sometimes it seems like the more you learn the less you know (or is it just me).

This error printed from a Savin C230 after the customer printed a picture they downloaded from the web. What is an illegal media source? The customer thought Big Brother was watching them, because this error came after each document they printed from Word, Excel, the web, everything. I turned the machine off and back on, and when we printed again from the same sources, the errors did not come back. Any suggestions?
printing per month? We've always seen problems with envelopes and the Ricoh/Savin hardware (as well as many laser printers). For the time and frustration, when our customers are looking for something to run a bunch of envelopes on I'd recommend a $50 inkjet anyday over an MFP. It's just the right tool for the job. No pressure, no fusing, minimal page coverage. But, you sacrifice image quality and the waterproof of laser.

I always test our MFP's scan to email capabilities with our Exchange Server and our ISP's SMTP server. For some reason, I cannot get this product to scan using the ISP's server. I can get all of the other Savin products in our showroom to scan to email with the ISP's mail server, but not this one. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!
They aren't in the price book, so I assume they are not available. Even on the products for which the keyboards are available, they are only compatible with a few solutions, such as eCopy and GlobalScan. Sharp has a big leg up here since there keyboards are compatible with out-of-the-box scanning as well as OSA apps. I don't know why Ricoh doesn't do the same.
I know we have keyboards & mounting kits available for most of our color products but I have not been able to find them for A4 Savin C230 (Ricoh Aficio MP C400). Does anyone know if there are keyboards available for these? Thanks

Illegal media source simply means that the requested paper tray was not present on the device. Most likely the printer lost communication with a paper tray and rebooting the printer restored it. PCL5 will give a lot fewer errors (at the tradeoff of lesser image quality, some users won't notice or care).
I'm in the same boat OldGlory. I have a bank coming to end of lease in September and the new A4 would be perfect. The customer is looking to downsize their fleet of 13 three year old Lanier mid volume A3 machines. Problem is I have to quote based on what I have now....not on what I might have in October. Could cost me the deal as my competition is in with 42ppm Kyocera A4 tabletops. I am also a Kyocera dealer and would rather not wind up being the lowest bidder to sell Kyocera tabletops
Once it gets to the printer, you are correct. For some reason, the Mac processes the PDF faster that the Power Point. The result was the same on a Lexmark and HP, so the customer realized it wasn't a hardware issue but a file size issue.
I am not sure I quite understand the question either. I can tell you of all the factors, understanding the projected print volume becomes the most important. It is hard to calculate the rest without it.
If they have a lot of pictures in their Power Point presentation they may want to check into the resolution/size. I've run into the same thing with Publisher. Schools wanting to print yearbooks or playbills where every picture is greater than 2 MB.

I agree with Art for the most part. If the person you are giving he items to is the person "paying the bills" then there is no issue no matter what the item is. If you are giving small ($200) items like cameras and such, still not an issue. When you start talking about giving a person large items ($1,000+) unbeknownst to the owner (or shareholders) and including them into the copier, that is 100% unethical, no question.

It came with a pair of wooden tongs, and you had to have an empty metal waste basket next to it so when the paper caught fire if it jamed under the toaster unit, you used the wooden tongs to transfer it to the solid metal waste basket where it could burn out "safely". a monthly payment of $46K per month. There is money to be made I just dont think a dealer needs 40 street reps anymore. And this is were comp plans will be more critical in attracting new talent and in selling yourself to a dealership. No more cookie cutter plans, one-size fits all. That is old school analog copier business. My belief is this ---- if you want your salespeople to be successful and make the company money, then you're going to have to pay them a nice penny.

I don't think it was Ricoh Americas place to talk about the 10K layoffs since the layoffs was a "global event". Ricoh like many other copier companies is making sure they are lean an mean and at least for now they havn't outsourced a whole community to a company in India like Xerox did. Drinks???? A response from a different board suggest that on the latest series of Sharp copiers, in Admin Mode, there is a new soft button that once touched erases all customer variable data and brings the copier back to default settings. All copier vendors can do this in Service Mode, so as suspected, this is not really a new feature but good Marketing.

One cool thing that the Canon IR-Adv will do if you have the multiple Fax line option, is you can forward each incoming fax line to a different forwarding address = the poor man's DID (Direct Inbound Dialing). I don't know for sure. I think Xerox Direct's move away from SMBs is not new, but if they did eliminate any Direct to SMB positions, I think Global is too independent to put up with Xerox forcing them to hire transitioned reps. Maybe they will tell the reps to open agencies!!!

Additionally, many remarked on how all of the General Session speakers (i.e. Executives) were from IKON, except for Steve Burger, which was unsettling to the Dealer community. While it may be argued that it's good marketing, I would think otherwise and also state that it's horrible customer service. #1, I don't think it truly wipes the hard drive clean; only a reformat would do that. #2, it would be much easier to just sell whatever flavor of "Data Overwrite" kit your particular brand sells as an upfront cost and installation to the copier. The cost is minimal and offers the extra protection of keeping the drive always clean.

I have a customer printing a Publisher file that has green on a banner at the top coming out a slate gray/to brown color. Other greens on the document are coming out very dark. Everything was fine until their PC crashed and was replaced by a new PC (W7 x64) and the drivers were reloaded (PCL6, PCL5c, PS). Having this issue with all three drivers. John, There is a simple test to figure out if it is the MFD or the Print driver. Put an original on the glass and make a copy of an original that has the correct color green. If it copies OK the copier is OK, and you need to focus on the print controller or print driver. If it copies and the green is bad on the copy then focus on the Copier. This method of procurement has been standard in our country for quite some time. Here all the major copier manufacturers deal direct and have substantial finance books to play around with. We see this on almost 100% of 20+ device deals and sometimes filtering down to single 25ppm colour devices. What we have learnt is they recover as much as they can during that term and then offset any potential losses by re-signing them either at the same customer or shifting them down to small business deals
Given how cheap hardware is from the brokers this could easily be profitable for even the independants. Especially if you are taking a machine you previously leased and made good money on in the first go around. Why not get it back in the field and make service revenue and build a relationship with a new client. Got to admit though this is just making it harder for the guy working based on hardware sales commissions. The dealership can be profitable doing this though.

darn I hate it when I lose my notes! Customer is printing envelopes from MS Office Word. We want the envelopes to feed from the paper tray and not the by-pass. We select in MS word to print from tray one and envelopes print from the by-pass. I've took envelopes out of the by-pass and then we get an error printing to tray one and I have to press form feed to have the envelope exit. Can anyone help with this????

We sold a customer a used Savin 4022spf (ricoh 2022). We replaced a standalone copier, and HP LJ4 and a canonfaxphone L75. We can't get the Savin to recieve faxes. The faxphone worked fine but the Savin answers and then the call is disconnected. Phone line is shared with alarm system. We have tried a different fax option in the Savin and also turned ECM off. Here in the United States when you think about Direct Branch operations it was all about Xerox, Konica Minolta and Ricoh. Those three were the heavy hitters. With Ricoh selling of a lot of direct operations a couple of years ago. In addition with the recent sell of some of the Konica Minolta direct branches the question becomes will we see movement now from Toshiba? Tomorrow is the last day of the month for me in May. I have one small order to book, however that still leaves me $7K short of my monthly quota. I still have two $60K opps out there however one has been in the weeds for three weeks and the other opp is in the weeds for a week. I don't think many clients are brand loyal anymore. One of the questions I ask net new clients when we meet is "what brand do you have now, and what was what brand did you have before your current device?" If it's the same brand I then ask is it the same support company also? If the two are the same then the client has both brand and company loyalty. If the brand was different with the before device they then have no brand loyalty and if the support company is also different then there is no brand and no company loyalty. Now if the brand changed and the support company did not they have company loyalty. Always good questions to ask so you can understand how to position your company

I posted a thread like this a few years ago. We have a Ricoh 8200N in place, print stream is one page coming from Sage "Timberline", they need two pages to print of the workorder and then have the system auto staple. Planetpress, and fabsoft are very pricey, is there a way to get the print stream from Sage to two pages and then write a code in the plc command to auto staple after two pages??? Please help!
