Arcoa Group

Why partnering with ARCOA makes sense
Electronics Recycling is an important and profitable part of the IT asset lifecycle, but it can be overwhelming with all you already do, varying state regulations, and the limited resources at hand. That’s where ARCOA comes in. When you partner with ARCOA, you get all the benefits of a big company without any of the capital investment. We’ve been doing this since 1989 and have the expertise, certifications, and nationwide resources to get the most for all your clients’ retired IT assets. Plus, positioning your clients as environmental stewards not only elevates their appeal to consumers, it meets government requirements and avoids fines.

What partnering with ARCOA looks like
Our role is to make it easy for you to bring more value to your clients. We work with you to help stretch your clients’ IT budget by reducing the total cost of ownership of their electronics. We’re experts at identifying and implementing the solutions your clients need for the end-of-use remarketing, recovery, and recycling of their technology assets. The sooner you involve ARCOA, the sooner you and your clients.

There are those in our industry that continue to blast our because he believes our industry is dying and will self destruct.  This coming from a person who is not involved in the day to day business in our industry.  That person is a self proclaimed analyst.

However, when one keeps badgering the industry with cries of wolf, then sooner or later those that listen will turn a deaf ear.

I don't mind someone who can point out the faults, but in turn those pointing the finger need to offer up solutions on how change.

Re: B2C defined

Two things going on there. B2C is about how the b&w and color clicks are handled. Basically, a b&w machine that also has color. Some color copiers can't separate out the solely b&w clicks and charge the color cpc for every click. B2C can make the distinction and charge accordingly. "Creative color" is marketing spin to cover the fact that Ricoh B2C color isn't as good as some other manufacturers, such as Konica Minolta's. Our Ricoh trainer guy also used to say "pleasing color" or "office color

Aficio 2232 Fax forwarding subject line ?

dvb (Guest) ·
When setting up the aficio 2232 or any Ricoh product is there a way to set a default subject line for scan to email or fax forwarding to email. Customer had a Toshiba machine and liked that the Toshiba could be programmed to include the fax number of a fax that came in on before forwarding to an email account. The message included the fax number of the incoming fax in the body of text of the email. Also for scanning to email can the subject line be defaulted to a certain message ?

On a Gestetner DSc525 with the Fax option, this customer called me a month ago with the complaint that faxes being received from (mostly) a particular customer of theirs were being received oriented 90 degrees off and reduced. In other words they were printed Letter direction on Letter-R paper. Or visa-versa, hard to tell. So I went to UTSyst Set Paper tray PriorityFax Tray 2. Tray 2 is Letter-R direction.(Tray 1 is letter only on this model.) Feeling confident I left. 2 weeks ago, she called

Re: Aficio 2232 Fax forwarding subject line ?

I am not sure about the forwarded fax message including the sending fax machine number. I know the default subject for the MP series color machines can be changed to whatever the end user needs. The sending fax machine should transmit the fax information along with the fax so any image printed/viewed should display the fax number anyway. Either way, the current B2C Ricohs are tough to beat in a lot of areas.

Also, when we take the .tmp files and rename them as HPGL2 files, we are not able to print them on PB 3.6 but we can do so with PB 3.5 in our demo room. Does anyone know if there is a

well said Shaja, bit depth is far more important to quality color than resolution. if you have 8 bit 600X600 your quality will be much better than a 2 or 4 bit with a resolution of 2400X1800. Like a Konica minolta guy told me on resolution you can only put so many dot in an inch until they start to just pile up whereas the bit depth has to do with the color variation per pixel.

Art, It will do some but not on a regular basis. We had to replace a c4500 that was doing lots of thicker coated stocks with a Canon. I just sold a C811DN and I am certain the brochure on that product says "glossy". I also have the recomnended paper chart from Ricoh and will try to send tomorrow if I can find it.

A good rule of thumb is to run no more than about 25% of the machine's recommended monthly volume on "special" paper (e.g. heavy-weight or coated). N.B.-The paper recommendations in this file for the MP C3500/C4500 apply for the C811DN as well...

If you have multiple fax lines, you can have different destinations for each. I have a machine with 3 fax lines. Line one sends to one email group (which is 5 people). Line two sends to a singe executive assistant and line three prints out on the machine.

Re: SP4110N Envelope Crinkling

I have never seen a Ricoh printer (or any other laser printer) consistently produce printed envelopes without creasing the paper. 3 "flaps" of paper going thru pressure and heat - like ironing shirt collar. Humidity seems to affect this more than anything else. GelSprinters won't wrinkle your envelopes. It doesn't appear you can select number 10 size envelopes. I think you will have to input the length and width as a custom size.

Attention Sales Leaders... We're Talking About Practice, Salespeople Need To Practice!

"I know I'm supposed to be there, I know I'm supposed to lead by example. I know that. And I'm not shoving it aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important. I do. I honestly do. But we're talking about practice, man. What are we talking about? Practice? We're talking about practice, man!"
Allen Iverson

Once asked why he was so successful on the basketball court, Kobe Bryant looked at the reporter and said,

“Have you seen Los Angeles at 4am? I see it often because that’s when I start training.”

Sales leaders and for that matter, salespeople, at what time of the day do you start your training?

The roadmap to success for an elite athlete is based upon a commitment to disciplined work, personal ownership and how it is applied to their craft. They understand they must apply themselves in all aspects of their training.

They take pride in holding themselves accountable to the process.

A growth mindset is one critical component to the success of an elite athlete and a sales professional.

All you sales leaders, key in on this question...

What separates an elite athlete from an average sales rep? Millions of dollars and their mindset.

Practice, one huge separation point between elite athletes and average sales reps.

What I find concerning, fascinating, interesting, hilarious and alarming is the continual difference I see between sales reps and sales professionals.

What would happen to a professional athlete who comes to a meeting unprepared, half-asses practice, lacks engagement, is on their phone, looks as though they do not want to be there, bitches/moans, and gives off the aura they are above all of this... What happens?

Well... You all know the answer.

So why do we allow salespeople to carry this same attitude when it comes to sales betterment?

Why do sales managers and sales leaders continually allow this to happen?

What are sales leaders and managers so afraid of?

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
Will Durant

WHAT'S OLD IS FOREVER NEW

In 1908, Napoleon Hill was a young and struggling magazine reporter. Expecting to conduct a brief interview as the basis for his magazine article, instead he spent hours conversing and listening to the great Andrew Carnegie.

At that time, Carnegie was the wealthiest person in the world, having just sold his company, Carnegie Steel, to JP Morgan for $480 million, which would be equal $16,732,856,470.59 in today's dollar.

As the conversation progresses, Napoleon Hill,

"I deduce that self-discipline is largely a matter of the adoption of constructive habits. Is that the idea?"

To which, Andrew Carnegie replies,

"What a person is and what a person accomplishes-both in failures and success-is a result of that person's habits. Fortunately, habits are self-formed. They are under the control of the individual. Gaining control over these thought habits goes a long way toward the attainment of self-discipline."

Folks, this conversation took place well over 100 years and is still 100% applicable today.

Let's all think together for a moment... What would and could happen to your sales teams results if you held them accountable to practice, discipline and constructive habits?

We all know the answer, yet why is this so difficult?

"Practices zealously pursued become habits."
Latin Maxim

What made Andrew Carnegie so successful?

What will make your salespeople successful?

PRACTICE

DISCIPLINED PRACTICE

Tony Robbins said it best,

"It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It’s what we do consistently."

To achieve consistent sales results throughout your entire team means you as the leader must dedicate yourself completely to the task, activity or goal at hand. It means you must stay engaged without distraction.

You set the stage. It's about you and all up to you.

Commitment to practice starts with you. It requires that you commit to yourself and your team to a sustained effort of action over the long-term.

Essentially, this means you keep a promise to yourself and your team that you will follow through with what you set out to do consistently over a period of time up until the moment your objectives are achieved.

Sales leaders... Consistency and your teams' results are all about your ability to be dependable, reliable and responsible for all your choices, decisions and actions.

THE DIFFERENTIATOR

Unfortunately, many sales leaders, managers and salespeople struggle with consistency when they fail to see immediate results from their actions.

Our society thrives on instant gratification. We feel hungry we call for a pizza; we get bored we binge watch Netflix; we get lonely we start texting our friends.

For many of us, we have grown up and have been hardwired to expect our impulses will immediately be satisfied. However, when it comes to achieving any level of sales success, the rules are a little different.

Here lies the disconnect... Many in sales crave immediate results with minimal effort, practice, accountability and commitment. And who allows that to happen? I wonder?

The lie your salespeople keep telling you, "But, I practice on the job."

A basketball game isn’t won on the court. The game is won in the days, weeks, months and off-season work leading up to the 48 minutes of actual playing time.

You play how you practice

The game is won with preparation. The team watches film, memorizes plays, hits the gym and eats properly. Preparation and practice are the keys!

So, why do sales reps struggle so much with practice? And why are you allowing it to happen?

In sales, you don't have an off-season to condition the mind or body. You and your team don't have 3 months off to prepare for the season long grind.

CONSISTENCY

Consistency, this is what separates elite athletes from good athletes. The ability of these elite athletes to go out there, day in and day out, week in and week out, month in and month out for years is incredible.

Can the same be said for top sales professionals versus average sales reps?

What makes elite athletes and top sales professionals so consistent?

I believe it is consistent preparation in every aspect of what they do including physical conditioning, practice efforts, technique, tactics, mental aspects, nutrition, sleep, and on-going learning.

Consistently great performances come from consistency in practice efforts. The best way to build this consistency is to have clearly defined goals and structure for every practice session.

Unfortunately, this is where I see the disconnect between elite athletes and many in sales.

Elite athletes have great coaches.

Can the same be said for salespeople? Can the same be said of your team? How many sales reps can say their managers make great coaches?

Pay close attention to this one...

If you aren't committed to practice and helping your sales team improve, then how can they consistently help your clients do better in their business?

If you continually allow and foster a laissez faire approach to practice, then how can your team achieve a consistent level of success over a long period of time?

SALESPEOPLE DO NEED PRACTICE

Successful sales leaders hold their team accountable to practice. They do not allow their salespeople to rule the roost.

The elite in sales continually do the things that sales reps find excuses for. The same can be said for sales leaders.

Elite athletes and their respective teams who achieve extraordinary results, put in a lot more hours of practice than the average. While their performances, outcomes and what they do are remarkable, there is no mystery how this was developed. They practiced beyond the average ordinary individual and team.

If you want your salespeople to reach the next level in their sales career, it’s imperative you spend more time with them in preparing, planning and practicing.

Remember... just as in professional sports, the same applies to sales... there is always someone eager and willing to take your place.

Come on sales world... You all can do so much better.

I will leave you all with something to think about...

As a sales leader, if you want to achieve the results that nobody is achieving, then you must do the things that nobody is doing.

On my previous blog I wrote about the many players offered copiers in 1984 and how many of them are around to this day.  One thing many may forget is that many of the copiers offered in the eighties was a mix of A3 and A4 devices.

Some or one will say that the A4 revolution started 6 years ago, but in reality that revolution started closer to 1980. The manufacturers realized they could capture more clicks and market share with A4 and lower device cost.

One of my favorites was a hybrid A3-A4 from Minolta (350Z) where you could place and 11x17 document on the glass (platen cover) and then reduce that document to letter or legal size.  However there was no ability to copy 11x17.  Yes, we took advantage of the cool feature and sold a ton of these.

Everything changes,,,,what copiers do you remember from the 80s?

I think the number of copier brands in the US market in 1984 was 29 brands. Now that is a hell of a lot of brands.  Brands like Sanyo, AB Dick, 3M, IBM, KIP, Monroe, Oce, Olivetti and many more can only be seen or remembered in print.  Only five of those brands 1984 still market copier aka MFPs today.

It was also interesting to see that Konica was not a marketed brand in 1984.  Canon, Ricoh, Sharp, Toshiba and Xerox are those five brands I made mention of.  Minolta and Konica merged almost twenty years ago.

Everything changes,,,,what will the next 40 years look like?

A Funny Thing Happened While on My Scavenger Hunt

Today was round II of our scavenger hunt aka day of knocking on doors for net new clients.

Early on it was going to be one of the more interesting days because the diner that I instructed my partner to meet me at was closed.  Not just closed for the day, but closed forever.  Yes, I was surprised because we were to only two cars in the lot.

I made another plan and in ten minutes we were having breakfast and the Marina in Atlantic Highlands.  It was three eggs over easy, rye toast, bacon and home fires for each of us and I'm sure that would give us enough energy for a GREAT day.

At 8:30AM we logged into our Teams and we received the instructions for the net new scavenger hunt and what was needed to win to some cash prizes.  By 9AM we were on our way and I felt confident that we would be able to complete the task and have some opportunities for both cash and leads.

First Call

Our first call was right across the street from the Marina, and within 45 minutes we were able to complete three net new cold calls.  Seems we were on the way to get my 15 visits completed.

My next stop was to visit the furthest call in my territory which was about 50 or so miles down the road. My plan was to cold call two type of accounts and they were production and wide format.  Might as well go big and scavenging for production and wide format should bring some awesome returns and rewards.

The Hunt

Here's where I cut to chase and make mention of the best call of the day.  I visited a client that I once had as an account 25 years ago, because in recent months they had surfaced on Linkedin an we were able share some comments on their threads.   When we arrived the DM was in a meeting and the receptionist stated that our DM stated they would see us soon.  It was 30 minutes of waiting and we were told again and again our DM was coming to see us.  I think it was at the 35 minute mark where I asked Dean to set a timer on his phone for 5 minutes, if our DM doesn't show we'll move on the next stop on this list.  At the 5 minute mark our DM greeted us with open arms (two of them) one for each one of us. It was great see my DM again and we started with some small talk about how business is and what their existing relationship was like with their three vendors. Yup, three of them. Since this was a production print we spotted at least a dozen printers on the floor and probably more in the others areas that we could not see.

Our DM them told me that he remember on of the best devices I ever sold him. He made mention of the old thermal poster printer (picture on top of page) that I sold in back in the mid nineties that used blue and yellow thermal paper.  Yes,  that brought back the memories and our DM stated he always enjoyed how I stayed on top of technology and offered great ideas for him. Remember back, this one of my first accounts that bought a digital duplicator from me also. Time really does fly......

Things happen, things change and for years we ended up going out of touch for various reasons.  As my wife says, everything happens for a reason.  While chatting I made mention of embellishment.  In most cases when I mention embellishment it's not a term that many are familiar with, however in this case my DM was extremely interested in learning more and the possibility of adding embellishment to their portfolio (that usually means adding a 5th station print device).  When we finally left we had spent 90 minutes at the clients location and knocked out an on-site appointment with a potential net new client and opened them as a suspect for now.

Before we left we agreed on a few follow up points and then to offer up a demo for embellishment.  Not a bad day eh?

I got no where close to the visits that I wanted for the day, however the ability to re-kindle and old relationship was the icing on the cake.  I can also state that if we didn't have the hunt I would not have stopped in for many dumb reasons.

All of this takes me back to "The Harder You Work, The Luckier You Get"

How MPS Can Help Create a Greener Office

How MPS Can Help Create a Greener Office

Environmental conservation is everybody’s duty. This is why offices develop creative ways to go green and preserve the environment. And while print services are essential because they ensure a smooth flow of information from one department to another, many businesses remain concerned about the potential paper, ink, and plastic waste that excessive and irresponsible printing practices can cause.

Fortunately, the office printer industry is actively working to assist offices in building a greener workplace.

Why are Offices Looking to Go Green?

How going green saves a business money

Many younger generations are concerned about changing climates, melting icebergs, and the future of the planet they are inheriting and, eventually, leaving behind. In addition, pressure from governments and environmental conservation groups are pushing for corporations and small businesses alike to make changes that can contribute to a more sustainable marketplace from product to production.

But “going green” can do more than meet government and employee demands. It can also help a business save money. One of the ways it does this is by optimizing materials usage to minimize waste production. Other strategies for improving costs while going green include switching off electronic devices when not in use, implementing power-saving modes, and operating more energy-efficient hardware.

In addition to saving money, many companies are implementing more environmentally friendly options to meet customer expectations. For example, many consumers are concerned about the growing number of reports on global news of wildfires, ozone issues, heat waves, and fluctuating ocean temperatures. And those individuals are actively seeking to do business with organizations that are increasing their efforts to become better stewards of the environment.

Consumption is a Crucial Part of Going Green

A lot of “going green” in the office can be managed by monitoring consumption. Managed print service partners have the software, systems, and services available to apply this logic to the realm of office printing. They make it easy to keep track of the amount of paper, ink, and energy being expended daily and even hourly by printers throughout the business – whether in the main office or at remote locations.

This level of tracking does more than predict the cost of office printing; it allows each business partner to make better decisions about the materials they order. It also provides actionable data to help educate employees and direct printer use behavior.

Another great way to go green is to tackle the issue of energy consumption. A straightforward way to reduce power use at the printer is to turn the machines off when offices are closed. But additional opportunities are available on newer printers beyond shutting down the devices. These power-saving options include low power idle modes and year-over-year improvements in general energy efficiency. A reputable managed print services, printer leasing, or printer service provider can help their business partners understand the best energy-saving options that fit each office’s printing needs.

Evaluate Materials and Usage for Eco-Friendliness

The use of materials is a considerable contribution to creating greener office policies. Fortunately, there are materials and processes that can be utilized to avoid waste and allow businesses to operate in a more environmentally-friendly manner. When it comes to office printing, the right service partner can help:

  • Manage materials usage and ordering
  • Advice on the best ink and toner for maximum paper coverage and minimal waste
  • Provide guidance on reliable recycled papers products
  • Include programs for paper, ink cartridge, and toner cartridge recycling

Becoming more eco-friendly may seem like a daunting task. But, when it comes to office printing, meeting consumer and employee demands isn’t as out of reach as it may seem. The right printing partner can help any business discover a wide range of ways to pivot to greener printing strategies while saving money and improving efficiencies.

This Week in the Copier Industry 15 Years Ago

The golden age of copiers and some may argue when that was, however I had the opportunity to be in the golden age of the business.  It's my belief that the Golden Age of copier started in 1980 and ran till 2010.  My reasoning starts with the mass production of plain paper copiers in the early eighties, then the introduction of the digital copiers in the nineties and lastly the coming of age for digital color copiers.  Technology which brought about so many changes in those 30 years has taken it's toll with advanced digital process (email, pdf, OCR, document management) that has reduced our clicks for the last 12 years.  Change is good and we need to Change!

Something you wrote sounds strangely familiar, but I can only give you a lead to follow up on. A year or so ago, I sat in on a webinar conducted by John Kiefer and Jon Standaert, Ricoh digital support representatives and training experts extraordinaire. I could swear that they demonstrated a toolbar that would create the hot folder with automatic print functionality you want. For the life of me I can't think of the name of the program and nothing I see on Ricoh's solutions site sounds familiar

Ok, I tested my theory and it does not automate the above scenario. The only thing that does work is to scan to folder and have a shortcut of the PS driver in the folder. This way, users could just select the PDFs they scanned, drag and drop to the PS icon, and collect the prints. Another thought, if the customer needs to scan mixed batches, I am assuming letter and legal, then why recommend an MFP that will not automatically separate the image sizes? Doesn't this lead to more time wasted

Here's the issue.... we need to met a budget with mp2000spf, the one problem with the mp2000spf is that is will not copy mized size orginals, the customer intends to scan all documents anyway, so the thinking is to scan to a "hot folder" and then see if there is sometime of program that will print the file to a network mfp or printer asap, thus negating the need for copy of mixed size originals!

The only "hot folder" outside of EFI controller software that I am aware of is the "hot folder Print Queue when you PDF direct print." I don't believe this leads to automation of the process. If you shared a PS printer icon as a folder, you maybe able to print the scanned images if they always PDFs. I have not tried this, but I can this afternoon and see if it works. Basically, your going to scan to 2 destinations - a shared folder and a shared PS printer "icon". It sounds like it would

Self-Discipline Combined With No Excuses... The Two Puzzle Pieces To Drive Monumental Sales Growth!

“Self-command is the main discipline.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

You can control what you can control, and you can't control what you can't control.

You have complete control and command over the success you have in sales.

Self-discipline, it's as old as mankind.

The Stoics were big on the three disciplines of Desire, Action and Assent.

  • Desire has to do with acceptance of our fate
  • Action has to do with the love of mankind
  • Assent has to do with mindfulness of our judgements

Think about the Stoics and reflect...

  • Where is your desire to succeed or have you accepted your sales fate?
  • Where is your love for mankind, your clients?
  • Are you being mindful and not casting judgement, especially with your clients?

Even the Buddhist monks treated discipline as the holy grail. As the Dali Lama went onto to say,

"A disciplined mind leads to happiness, and an undisciplined mind leads to suffering."

There is no free ride to your sales success. There is no easy button to press. There is no quick tactic, tip or trick. Without disciplined work, dedication, an extreme tolerance for frustration and setbacks you will struggle to become a sales champion.

Stop the sales suffering! An undisciplined mind is a terrible thing to waste.

If you desire sales success, and let's admit who doesn't, then you must be willing to take massive action. I am concerned that far too many in sales lack the basic understanding of what’s necessary to become a sales professional.

Self-discipline is your core personal power. It’s the source of all other powers.

To quote, David Eagleman, the author of Incognito – The Secret Lives of the Brain,

"Our behavior is simply the result of the many battles between short-term and long-term desires in our brain. If that is the case, then self-discipline is your ability to choose the part of you that should win the battles that matter."

Exercise this power within your brain, and you strengthen it. You will have gained the fulfillment of knowing you're doing your best. Do this day after day, week over week and month over month, expressing the best there is in you, and you will live with the calmness of having no regrets.

"Self-discipline is a form of self-regulation, self-control or self-mastery—it is the benevolent exercise of power within yourself. Like a good king/queen leading the country to a happier, desired future."
Giovanni Dienstmann

IMPROVE SELF-DISCIPLINE, ADOPT NO EXCUSES

One of my favorite quotes is by Craig Groeschel,

"We can make excuses, or we can make progress but we can't make both."

Sales professionals, they combine self-discipline with no excuses to create sales betterment.

Sales professionals hold themselves personally accountable. They hold themselves to a higher degree of standards than sales reps.

They have a no-excuse mentality and they don't point fingers when they fail to hit their sales plan. They simply do the things that sales reps find excuses not to do. They hold themselves accountable even if their manager doesn't.

Excuses stunt sales growth. Excuses stunt relational growth. They are invented reasons we create to defend our behavior, to postpone taking action, or simply as a means of neglecting responsibility.

Excuses are mainly a means of placing the blame of an internal problem on an external condition.

“Excuses are tools of incompetence used to build bridges to nowhere and monuments of nothingness, and those who use them seldom specialize in anything else.”
Vernon Brundage Jr.

There are numerous reasons why salespeople make excuses.

Let's look at a few...

  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of success
  • Fear of change
  • Fear of uncertainty
  • Fear of what others may have to say

The roadmap to your success is based upon disciplined work, personal ownership, and practice.

It takes self-discipline combined with no excuses to achieve consistent sales success.

Dr. Napoleon Hill went onto say,

"You need to acquire the habit of work and demonstrate personal initiative to get ahead in life. There is no benefit to procrastinating or performing mediocre work. Ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes, but it takes action to keep them alive."

Back in 1908, in a conversation between then Napoleon Hill and Andrew Carnegie, Hill went onto say, "I deduce that self-discipline is largely a matter of constructive habits. Is that the idea?".

Upon which Carnegie replied, "What a person is and what a person accomplishes both in failure and success is the result of that person's habits. Gaining control of these habits goes a long way toward the attainment of self-discipline."

My sales friends, that conversation took place over 100 years ago and is still 100% applicable today.

The question now becomes what will you do about it? And when will you start?

SELF-DISCIPLINE REQUIRES MINDSET

Sales professionals are business athletes.

What separates elite salespeople from the rest? I believe elite salespeople have a ‘next level’ mindset.

Elite salespeople constantly challenge themselves. Are you?

Elite salespeople push themselves to practice. They pay attention to the little things on a consistent basis and continually focus on positive work habits. Can this be said about you?

Could you become more consistent in sales if you changed your mindset?

What would happen to your sales results with an improvement in your preparation, practice, and how you mentally prepared for sales day?

STOP LIVING A SALES LIE, DEVELOP DISCIPLINE!

Gotta keep this one real... Most sales reps would rather get by with subpar work ethics, coupled with minimal levels of practice, entertaining themselves on social media, then wondering why their results continually have them in the sales management dog house.

These sales reps do not want to put in the extra effort to become more focused or more self-disciplined.

The secret to success is mental. The secret to success is in your hands, and your actions, not in your mouth.

The secret to success is quite simple to understand yet so difficult to consistently put into action.

Do you have what it takes to take your career to the next level? Can you honestly put your actions where your mouth is? Are you willing to walk the walk?

Dr. Napoleon Hill said it the best,

"Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do. Simply, self-discipline enables you to think first and act afterward."

The possession of self discipline combined with no excuses enables you to choose, and then persevere with actions, thoughts and behavior. This all leads to improvement and sales success. And isn't this what you want?

This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago

The year 2023 will mark 43 years of sales in the office technology space.  I've spent all of my years in down the street (SMB) office technology sales, even when I had my own small dealership for 12 years. I was never the flashy type, never the bull ****ter or one that made promised of gifts and dinners. I just went about my business and exercised a great work ethic to win more than I lost.  I never minded losing because I was able to learn from those losses and always kept the faith that the next win was right around the next corner.

There's  nothing new in sales since I started in 1980, what has changed is the many different levels of communication that are available and creative ways of connecting with your potential client.  It is and always will be about prospecting and the effort that you post up on a daily basis.  Those that prospect the hardest will be those that win!

I started in this business straight out of college going on 9 years ago. I spend most of my time following the paper, particularly looking for companies with large fleets of printers to engage for MPS. I started having an MPS focus in 2007 but wish I had started going in that direction prior to that. We primarily sell Ricoh with a little Lexmark and HP mixed in.

I got this article from here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001...mise-is-slow-steady/ I read a report the other day that stated the US printed page volume will reach 1.2 trillion pages in 2014 for the FIRST TIME. I think this was from IDC which is well respected. As I was driving to an appointment today I was thinking about all of these reports and thought that the paper sales would even be a better indicator of what is going on. Wallaa, I had this the above article in an email today! The gist of

I think this can be very easily misleading. The proliferation of duplex printing over the last 5-10 years has increased significantly, even home printers ship with duplex now. This will impact paper sales at least 6% IMHO. Also a 6% revenue drop? I'm pretty sure the market price for cost per pages (on consumer and business alike) has dropped easily 5% per year. Even if you take into account increases through color it still doesn't add up. So I'm still firmly in the camp that the increased

Traditionally it has been a consumer responsibility to declare out-of-state Internet purchases and pay use tax, an impractical process to date. As a result states are moving to place the burden on the seller and many businesses have voluntarily signed up to aid in this effort. Congress is currently considering federal law changes that will mandate sellers to collect sales tax. •Closely

I'm a firm believer that if you want change, then you need to offer up ideas on how to make those changes.  Continued rants and bluster gets you nowhere with your peers in the industry.  Those on the outside looking in or those that have lost their way is that an attractive audience?  Wouldn't you want to the voice of change and then be the one that can also offer up ways to change?

I love our industry! I understand not every thing is perfect, however NO industry is perfect. I don't mind peeps preaching about the issues with the industry. However if you're going to hang your hat on what's wrong then you also need to preach on how to fix those issues.

Good things happen to those that work hard!

Selling Copiers in the Seventies with Mike Stramaglio

·
Mike's career with Minolta and then Hitachi Koki. It was apparent that the two of them had a great relationship. Over the next 15 years Mike and I have had the chance trade some emails and chat some at industry events. A few months ago, I reached out to Mike to see if he would like to be one of our "Selling in the Seventies" guru's. It was not until I heard Mike's answers that I realized what can be accomplished by sales people in our industry. The copier sales guy that makes it to the top and

When it was new and somewhat unique I talked about it a lot but didn't find many applications. Now I don't even bring it up inless I'm at something like a church or real estate office...someplace with the potential of a non-resident employee or volunteer. Even then there are other ways to accomplish the task that are just as easy, if not easier. I'd love to hear about applications I'm missing out on.

Re: New Samsung A4 Color MFP Brochure

@fisher when you have a chance to play around with it canyou shed some light on it. Our relationship with Samsung has soured a little since the dealer meeting and we are not ordering any more equipment right now. Working on selling what we have and reevaluating the situation. Our IT and Service guys keep finding quirks that come up with customers and have been creating problems in accounts.

Re: New Samsung A4 Color MFP Brochure

Thats interesting thought process. I tend to agree now. I mean I call my rep for this brochure and he says I don't have any. What kind of crap is that! I have a niche for that because now it seems us and a competitive canon dealer are always going against each other on deals and it tends to go down to the Canon C255 or C355 A4 Color and we end up fighting it down to lower margin etc. I can sell this Samsung if it turns out to be a decent product.

My impressions: Nice display. Very nice doc feeder. Copy quality is decent. Speed is respectable. First copy is fast. Paper drawer is nice. The big question mark for me is the consumables and the build quality of the print engine. It may run great.......only time will tell but it sure seems cheaply made inside. I think I'd be afraid to do a service contract on this product that included any consumables. Its more like a Box Store type of machine but with the feature set of a dealer type unit.

Business Consultants in deals

How do you guys handle these business consultants that occasionally show up in deals. I'm dealing with one right now in an account that has been a client for about 15 years. Her and I have butted heads since she got involved and pretty much every conversation starts off with me hearing her resume about where she has been and how many times she has bought copiers, computers software etc. for major national or global firms. Luckily, I have a good relationship with the owner but she is heavily

Not worth the cost for legal fight it would take and the court will most likely side with a guy trying to make a living anyway. The guy who would try to enforce one was probably an a-hole to work for from the beginning and has bigger problems with himself and his business than any problems that could be caused by competing in the marketplace with a former sales rep.
