Arcoa Group

Why partnering with ARCOA makes sense
Electronics Recycling is an important and profitable part of the IT asset lifecycle, but it can be overwhelming with all you already do, varying state regulations, and the limited resources at hand. That’s where ARCOA comes in. When you partner with ARCOA, you get all the benefits of a big company without any of the capital investment. We’ve been doing this since 1989 and have the expertise, certifications, and nationwide resources to get the most for all your clients’ retired IT assets. Plus, positioning your clients as environmental stewards not only elevates their appeal to consumers, it meets government requirements and avoids fines.

What partnering with ARCOA looks like
Our role is to make it easy for you to bring more value to your clients. We work with you to help stretch your clients’ IT budget by reducing the total cost of ownership of their electronics. We’re experts at identifying and implementing the solutions your clients need for the end-of-use remarketing, recovery, and recycling of their technology assets. The sooner you involve ARCOA, the sooner you and your client.

Work from home changing MFP/printer market

  • Published on CRN Magazine (Computer Reseller News)
  • “Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic made remote work a staple for many people, consumers andorganizations have increased their expectations around how printers should work at home”; stated Sue Richards, head of home print hardware at HP
    • “Enterprises want to ensure the home work environment is as productive as your work environment”
    • “printers need to become more reliable and enable better productivity”
    • “Now the expectation is it is just there and it just works and it is integrated seamlessly in your environment”
    • Regarding security, “There is always going to be more work to do because people do not immediately think of a printer as being a conduit it (for hackers), but we know it is, so I think that is something we will continue to drive”
  • “If you look at what historically ratios of printers to employees may have been or deployment strategies, people now are looking at it differently”; stated Chris White, executive director at Lexmark, a division
    Ninestar of China
  • “This is opening new opportunities for vendors and their channel partners to perform assessments and help customers figure out the best way to tackle needs for printing, scanning, copying and faxing in
modern office environments”; stated Bob Burnett, director at Brother.
    • “assessments can address several facets, including size of workforce, how often they are in the office, how many pages they print on a regular basis and whether there is an increased need for scanning due to a larger emphasis on scanning”
    • Regarding security, “surprisingly some organizations have not realized it until you have the conversation with them and then they start to say ‘Oh my god’”
  • “It is important for organizations to get printer layouts done correctly to ensure knowledge workers are not spending too much time walking long distances to a printer or trying to find where a printer is located”; stated Elliot Williams, director at Epson.
    • “Security it something that you just cannot ignore, whether you are a mom-and-pop all the way up through an enterprise”; stated Tracey Koziol, CPO at Xerox
    • “Most enterprises and even small businesses have not necessarily taken a big print (security) policy of managing those devices. And what they have seen is that they have unauthorized devices that could be a security risk”; stated Scott Dabice, VP at Ricoh.

Art, We have an idea that a couple of us drummed up on the way home today, via cell phone...Go into user tools and select Print mode as the priority mode for the copier. Then have the administration settings on the print controller changed to show the Print mode as the priority there as well. I'll let you know what we find. By only selecting the Print mode as priority in the user tools of the copier, we would get the receiving print job light to flash, but it wouldn't light the print button and

Attention Sales World... Create Massive Discipline Around These Three Areas And Watch Your Sales Revenue Soar!

“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.”
Jim Rohn

Are you willing to become radically disciplined?

Are you willing to place practice on a pedestal, honoring it daily?

Can mastering discipline become the key driver to your sales success? I believe it can.

We can view self-discipline as the ability to resist immediate gratification or short-term desires to achieve long-term goals.

It's about exerting willpower and self-control as you stay laser-focused on what's important, even when you're faced with temptations or distractions. And we all know how quickly salespeople become distracted, don't we?

Creating self-discipline will require you to make conscious choices, prioritizing your actions based on what aligns with your goals and values. Here lies one huge question... Have you clearly defined your goals and values?

It's about overcoming the natural inclination to embrace immediate pleasure or avoiding discomfort, in favor of ensuing activities contributing to personal growth and success.

Self-discipline is about having self-control, not falling prey to bad habits, such as laziness, procrastination and irresponsibility.

Self-discipline is about making decisions to serve your long-term interests rather than being driven solely by monetary motives.

I believe self-discipline is a skill one can develop and strengthen over time. It requires practice, effort, commitment and massive action. It involves training the mind and building resilience to overcome challenges and stay committed to one's goals.

Self-discipline is challenging to achieve, since it requires one to battle with one's own self in making the right choice.

Napoleon Hill on self-discipline...

"The person who is not the master of himself many never become the master of anything else. But he who is the master of self may become the master of his own earthly destiny."

What choices are you making and how has this been impacting your sales results?

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”
Leo Tolstoy

It’s one thing to know how to change, the bigger questions... are you willing and committed to change?

This all boils down to the classic can do versus will do mentality.

When you become unwilling to change, you keep yourself in limbo or a state of complacency. You even share with others, and yourself, how you will “try” to change.

Trying is one thing. Trying lacks accountability. You must ditch trying and start training. This means personally committing to the self-discipline journey.

If you want to increase your sales this will require you to do new and different things.

Therefore,

Are you willing to take 100% responsibility for making this happen?

Are you willing to get more interested in learning than defending your ego?

Are you willing to allow yourself grace as you learn and relearn new skills?

"Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything."
George Bernard Shaw

I ask all of you to zero in on the following...

If you want to achieve the results no one is achieving, then are you willing to do the things no one is doing?

Taking in all that has been mentioned... To grow your sales in today's environment starts with creating massive amounts of self-discipline.

This means retooling, reequipping, and revamping parts of your processes around a different model, one which calls for new approaches, new positioning, new client experiences, and new business growth; all centered upon a well-organized plan.

You must be willing to adapt to the rapidly changing market conditions, digital business models and disruptive competitors.

Time to fasten your seatbelts, place your seats in the upright position and lock in those trays, as our journey together is just getting started.

SALES GROWTH STARTS WITH DISCIPLINED LEARNING

"A single conversation across the table with a wise man is better than ten years mere study of books."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a famous American Poet during the 1800's. His original works include "Paul Revere's Ride", "The Song of Hiawatha", and "Evangeline."

I believe what's forever old is forever new. People, the above quote is more than 200 years old and is as relevant today, as ever.

Allow me to twist the quote up a bit, and you will soon realize how important this is to your sales growth...

A single conversation across the table with one of your clients is better than 10 years mere study of books.

What are you learning from your clients?

I believe you can earn a PhD in knowledge from your clients if you're willing to learn from them.

I believe the insights and information you learn from your clients, and what you do with it, will help them to solve their potential business problems and challenges.

You have unparalleled amounts of information available to you, to the point where information is no longer a competitive advantage.

Your competitive advantage is in plain sight and it's staring right back at you in the mirror.

In the interactions with your clients, are you making them smarter or are your clients making themselves smarter?

How do you think this may affect your relationship and your sales growth?

The importance of you learning new things should not be taken for granted. The power of self-education... hold yourself accountable to it.

However, you wish to learn, whether it be through a book, the internet, or through your clients, by all means, create disciplined time within your day and learn something new.

“Education is the power to think clearly, the power to act well in the world’s work, and the power to appreciate life.”
Brigham Young.

TAKE MASSIVE ACTION AROUND THESE THREE AREAS

Mahatma Ghandi once said,

You never know what results will come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no results.”

If you do nothing, there will be nothing!

If you commit with radically consistency and massive discipline to following three areas, I believe you will drive monumental sales results.

AREA 1 - CREATE CLOSE-KNITTED BONDS

The key to your sales growth must come through your clients not at the expense of your clients.

We all know it’s less expensive to retain your clients than it is to acquire new ones.

It becomes mission critical that you build authentic relationships high, wide and deep, throughout the entire organization, not just with a select few decision makers or influencers.

You must build a fortress around your client base or someone else will.

People are constantly moving in, around, and out of your client base.

You will become relationally vulnerable by limiting who you know within your client base down to just a few people.

You must go way beyond key decision makers. You must start to connect to company influencers, end users, and key department managers; cross pollinating relationships is mission critical to your sales growth.

You never know WHO inside an organization can open the relational door to sales prosperity.

You must build genuine, authentic relationships with an abundance of individuals within your client base, as the opportunity for loyalty increases.

One way to guarantee loyal clients is to create unbreakable heartfelt bonds.

"We share an unbreakable bond. And only the two of us know the secret codes for holding us together."
Palak Jain

Are you creating the ties that bind with your clients?

This means:

  • Setting specific and agreeable expectations
  • Continuing to bring insight and fresh ideas
  • Nurturing the relationship online as well
  • Going above and beyond, never breaking a promise

Those of you who fail in building strong ties may see deals collapse, funnels shrink, and distress arise.

You must become obsessed with protecting and serving your clients or someone else will.

It is about building authentic relationships. And in doing so, think about the relational client networks you will create and the potential referrals you will curate.

AREA 2 - DRIVE NEW BUSINESS

You can increase your sales by focusing less on acquiring new clients and more on your current clients?

Call me crazy but I promise you this works.

Many struggle to capitalize on what sits close to home and who resides within the networks of people they already do business with.

To increase new business, you must concern yourself with reducing client attrition by providing them a memorable and inspirational experience.

The more you know about your clients, the more you grow with your clients.

This fosters new relationships, new conversations and new sales opportunities.

The more you learn about your clients, the more you earn from your clients.

You're one degree of separation from your best sales opportunity, and it sits within your clients' networks.

Commit to understanding who your clients are connected with as part of your sales growth plan.

AREA 3 - LEVERAGE SOCIAL TOOLS TO TARGET HIGH VALUE PROSPECTS

Listening is the new prospecting. Are you intentionally listening to the social cues?

Fuel your new business growth by integrating social into your prospecting cadence. Your clients and future clients use social...Are you paying attention to what your clients are posting?

The core foundation of blending social into your process can be accomplished by doing these three things:

  • Build a personal value framework - establish your credibility and help create visibility within the marketplace.
  • Listen and learn - understand what your ideal clients are talking about... What's important to them? What's top of mind to them?
  • Engage and educate - join and start conversations moving them from online to offline.

You must work strategically to implement a well targeted sales development growth plan.

You must become precision-like in proactively developing trusted and credible relationships with these high-valued opportunities.

To quote the late great Henry Ford,

"It has been my observation that most people get ahead during the time that others waste."

Sales professionals do not waste their time. They value time and are radically disciplined on the aforementioned three things? Will you?

YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE QUALITY OF YOUR SALES SUCCESS

Remember, your sales growth involves taking ownership of your actions, continuously improving your skills, and adapting to a rapidly changing business environment.

Instilling self-discipline in yourself is not a gingerly walk in the park. It's challenging and many of you will fail. Is this a bit harsh, yes, but it's the stone cold truth.

However, this is where self-determination and fortitude come in.

On can suffer the pain of self-discipline or one can suffer the pain of regret.

Double-down on yourself. Practice self-discipline every day, and you will soon reap the fruits of your success.

Welcome to the Selling From the Heart This week we feature Don Barden, Author of The Perfect Plan. You never know who can help you so the mindset of helping is a powerful thing to have.

Don and our host duo talk about the book and the simple things that the one percent do that make a difference. He talks about becoming a steward and thinking about serving your client instead of focusing on your own sales. With this mindset, you'll be rewarded a thousandfold because you're giving and giving.

HIGHLIGHT QUOTES

Understand that your interactions will end so always be present - Don: "I can't be a transactional guy. I've got to be a good steward who's here to serve and cherish every moment I've got with this client. That little mindset tweak that you make, the client can feel it. When they know that you're there for them, they can look back with enormous amounts of gratitude."

Selling Copiers in the Eighties with Frank Vasquez

Frank and I have know each other for so many years, even though we only live a few states apart we've never had the chance to meet in person.  I'm hoping this is the year we get to meet.

Frank agreed to give us some in-site surrounding his career in our industry.  I'll be posting Franks linkedin link at the end of this story.

Selling Copiers in the Eighties

Art:  How did you find your way into the copier industry?

Frank: Art – first, many thanks for including me in this.  Your friendship and insight has meant much to me over the years.

I first got into the business at the beginning of 1988, after spending 6 months working on the Stock Exchange in London after graduating UVA.  I had experience in sales during college, and I minored in Computer Science, so I thought a career in Computer Sales would be a great fit.  Of course, no one would hire me as I had NO Computer Sales Experience – fools!  My Girlfriend and I had just moved to the DC area, and one Sunday she was reading the Washington Post classifieds and came across a Sales Position, with NO experience required, at Commonwealth Copy Products.  Up to that point, I had never even thought that people sold copiers.  I went on two interviews, got the job and started the beginning of February in 1988 as a sales rep on the First-Ever Downtown DC Mita Sales Team.  I hit quota 23 out of the next 24 months – it was a great experience for me.

Art:  Damn, that's quite the accomplishment!  With Mita what was your favorite model to sell?

Frank: Back then, we had the DC 4085 as our top product, but then we got the 5585 that turned into the 5685 – a rock-solid analog machine of which I sold a pile.

Art: Okay, so key question I ask everyone. What was the percentage of copier sales people that made it past two years and why made them last or not last so long?

Frank: Well, I think about 20%, or less, made it two years.  But we figured that if you lasted 6 months, you could make a career of it.

Art: Ah the eighties, those were some great times.  What did you like most about your job in the eighties?

Frank: Having been a CS minor, I was intrigued by Technology, what made everything work and Networks.  With that said, Digital Copiers were scarce, but the foreseen future.  In 1993, I was selling Canon, and the GP20 was introduced, and it was a pretty bad product as it took ages to connect.

The subsequent GP30 and GP55 were MUCH better machines.  Canon still ruled the color market with the CLC’s, but Ricoh was making some headway and chipping away at Canon’s Market share, but B&W Digital still ruled the day.

In 1997, I went to work for Toshiba America, and the 55, 65 and 85 ppm B&W Digital machines were bulletproof.  At the point, we had the CLC 1150 and the Xerox Doc12 as the premier color machines running at 11 and 12ppm.  Toshiba launched the FC22 toward the end of the 90’s that took color to 22ppm – sold a ton.  Then Toshiba followed that unit with the FC310 and then the FC3100.  31ppm in color that was groundbreaking – wax toner with no fuser oil.  It was a pretty exciting time to be in the business to witness the changes and growth of Digital.

Art: Haha, not fuser oil , it's only us old timers that know what fuser oil was used for! Okay so what did you dislike most about your job in the eighties?

Frank: Contact Management was NOT the CRM that we have today!  The old Card Boxes with Index Contact Cards was simple, but left a lot open to costly mistakes.

Art: How about compensation?  What was your plan like, was there a salary, what is just commissions or was there a mix of salary and commissions?

Frank: In the beginning, there was a $12K Salary, commission and monthly bonus if you hit quota.  Later there was a non-recoverable draw of $36K and up.  Meaning, you paid back your draw each month before extra commission and bonuses, but if you did not cover your draw, the balance did NOT roll over to the next month.

Art:  Frak, $12K, I can't remember what my starting pay for sales was in 1981.  However I do remember the commission were 50% of the GP.  Can you tell me about how you went about finding new business, and what was your favorite of those methods and why?

Frank:  It is the same as today – hard work and repetition.  However, back then it was knocking on doors, 150-300 Phone calls and snail mail mailers each week.  Today, the repetitive contact is still required, but it is augmented with Email, Trickle Advertising, Social Media, etc.

Art: Amazing after all of these years it's still about making the calls. What was the first sales book that you read that and what did you take away from it?

Frank: I think most of us back then read K.I.S.S. and S.P.I.N.  What these books teach is How to question for need properly while keeping it straightforward and simple.

Art:  Now that's interesting about those two books because I never had the chance to read either one.  Did you use a car for demonstrations? If so what type of car did you use for your demonstrations and how many demonstrations would you perform in a week demonstration.

Frank: Fortunately, we did NOT have to buy some sort of Station Wagon and Ferno SalesMaker Gurneys!  We offered Showroom Demos (Rare) or 3-Day Try-Buys (Very Popular)

Art: Oh what a lucky guy you were, there was nothing like being in your twenties and having to drive a station wagon, van or a hatch back .  Can you tell us a couple of funny story about selling copiers in the nineties?

Frank: Most of the funny stories I can’t repeat; however, there was a pretty crazy sale to a Law Firm in a DC Brownstone that required getting a permit to block the alley, renting a crane, cutting the huge old xerox into pieces, removing the windows and watching the crane remove the old Xerox and then lift the Mita DC8585 through the window for installation.

Art: You'll have to tell me a few of those off-line because I've got a few that I can't right about as well.  In your eyes what is the biggest problem you seeing facing the industry today?

Frank:  Right now it would still be the low levels of inventory available.  Also, there seems to be too much of a disconnect between Manufacturers and 3rd-Party Solutions Partners.  I feel that Manufacturers need to buy the Document Management companies and integrate them seamlessly into their offerings, or develop their own.  Same with Fleet Accounting solutions.

Art: I agree, there's still a document management companies that should be snatched up by the manufacturers. If you had to would you do it all over again, if so what would you change?

Frank: Absolutely – it has been a fun, challenging and rewarding 35-year ride!  If there would be anything to change, I am pretty sure we would all look at the Career Choices we had and probably make better-informed decisions.

Art: What’s the one piece of knowledge that you’d like to share with new reps entering our industry?

Frank: That’s easy – all the reps I ever hired, trained and mentored got the same message from me:  Learn your offerings inside and out and be able to bring UNMATCHED Business Value to the customer.  What this means is that in order to succeed, the reps must be able to identify/create need(s) of the customer and present unique solutions no one else can match.  If you do that, pricing concerns and competition become much less important.

The Future Office Is Paper-Light, Not Paperless

The Future Office Is Paper-Light, Not Paperless

The term “paperless office” was coined by Micronet Inc. in 1978. At the time, it caught on pretty hard as the ideal for the office of the future. How often do you see paper in Star Trek or any other future-based, high-tech science fiction? Even 2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick) presented space travel in a completely paperless environment. The film’s props list included “a 2001 newspaper to be read on some kind of television screen.”

Yet paper use doubled between 1980 and 2000. In 2017, offices used more than 400 million metric tons of paper. In 2018 the United Nations predicted paper usage would rise by 50%.

And here we are in the year 2021, where printed book sales still outstrip digital book sales worldwide. The typical employee still uses around 10,000 sheets of paper per year at a pace of 34 pages per day. The average company increases its paper usage by 25% year-over-year.

How have we gone so long without realizing the “paperless office” dream?

The Failure To Eliminate Paper

Digital versus printed book sales

Perhaps the most common reasons for paper usage and printing in the office have been for memos (or interoffice communications), records filing, and signatures.

Well, we all know what happened to memos and interoffice notes. The invention of email significantly reduced the need for physically written communications within the office setting, and chat software and text messaging all but ended written memos. But let’s be honest, it was also meant to minimize phone calls between employees and help dwindle unnecessary meetings. While it may have practically eliminated the former, it has had little to no effect on the latter. The same goes for reducing paper usage. Rather than avoid passing out a newsletter or interoffice message on paper, what happened? Every single employee printed out the email. So, the same amount of paper gets used. It’s just less time spent printing and handing out that paper on the part of the person sending the message.

Signatures, however, are a rare instance where paper-reduction was truly realized. At first, contracts had to be mailed back and forth. It was a lot of waiting and a few cents in postage. But it was the same stack of paper. Then people started faxing contracts. This practice tripled or quadrupled the amount of paper and ink used as each fax created a duplicate of the document on the other end. Faxed document sharing remained a staple until the scanner stepped in to allow contracts to be emailed. However, the physical signature still required at least one page of any agreement to be printed out and rescanned.

Then, finally, digital signatures took hold. Companies such as Sign Server, I-Safe PDF, and Docusign came out with secure options for contracts to be securely sent and virtually signed, complete with standardized cybersecurity measures. Today digital signatures have advanced enough to allow even banks, healthcare, and government entities to accept signatures using e-sign technology. While growth in this area was relatively slow and steady over the past decade, social distancing in 2020 created a significant increase in the use of digital signature platforms. And signs point to continued use as companies begin to head back to a semblance of regular business.

But, while esignatures may be taking a more permanent hold, digital record keeping is still something many companies hesitate to implement. This reluctance can be caused by several considerations, including the cost for conversion, methods of storage, and security of information.

Depending on the age and type of business, the number of past records to be scanned and stored can become a monumental task. Healthcare, finance, insurance, and law are just four industries where this issue could be incredibly daunting.

The method of storage and security is also a significant issue for these and other groups as documents containing sensitive personal and corporate information need to be thoroughly protected. Selecting between off-site, third-party, or company-owned and operated servers is a careful balance between digital security, capabilities, and cost. The result is that many businesses are satisfied keeping their paper record system or creating a hybrid environment rather than take on the investment and potential risks of going completely digital.

People Need Paper

But the costs and security of going digital are not what keeps the average office worker printing thousands of sheets per year. In reality, people have a significant attachment to the printed word and tactile engagement specifically. Studies have consistently shown that screens not only drain more mental resources but also impair focus and reduce reading comprehension.

Another issue with a truly paperless office is the inability to take hand-written notes. Whether in meetings or the margins of a printed document, research shows people who write things down by hand remember the information better than those who do not.

So, while note-taking apps, digital business cards, and project management tools may seem like monumental steps toward the “paperless office” of which we have been dreaming since the late ‘70s, the truth is strategic companies are far from bucking paper or printing.

Print Management Can Help

But not being “paperless” does not mean a business can’t be progressive or take an active role in managing their paper and print use. Innovative companies have an excellent opportunity to help reduce waste and their bottom line by partnering with print management services to become “paper-light.”

Using systems like PowerMPS, managed print services or MPS Software can provide printer data collection to properly track the use of paper, ink, toner, and other materials throughout the business – even at remote and home office locations. This information can help companies build better internal processes to address paper use and the needs of their employees. A strategic print management partner can often help companies reduce hardware costs, reduce output waste, and reduce energy consumption. The result is an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, “paper-light” ecosystem that allows both businesses and employees to thrive.

Re: MFP's, Copiers & The War for Ink vs Toner Devices

·
I have not yet competed against an A3 inkjet copier but I work with a dealer who has access to the HP line. He has one in stock but is unable to sell it yet. The last 10 A3 MFPs he sold were all laser. For quality prints, the HP needs premium paper. Customers are also very reluctant to leave toner based MFPs. They seem indifferent to the difference between Laser and LED technology. More than 50% of Xerox's current A3 product line is based upon LED technology.

SSG Thanks for the reply. I've seen the prints on both the Epson, and PageWide devices, they are very good when printing on regular bond. You are correct that the best image is with inkjet paper. It's my belief that once reps start showing samples and asking if color stays in house or leave the premise will dictate whether the rep shows ink or toner based MFP's. In addition Device Billing will come into play. That's where the client pays for the ink and a monthly charge for service with

Attention Sales World... The Key To Sales Success Is Looking Inward. Are You Willing To Take The Journey?

“Every answer you are seeking is already inside of you. Look within. Do the inner work.”
Akiroq Brost

I believe the truth we seek lies within us. We must do the work to uncover it, however; old habits and deep-seated beliefs blindly rob our attention, keeping us from connecting to our own best self.

To set up our journey together, allow me to introduce you to Paracelsus. I'm a firm believer in what's forever old is forever new. Paracelsus was recognized as the most influential medical scientist in Western Europe during the Renaissance period between the 14th and 17th centuries.

To quote,

"Man does not know himself and does not know how to use the energies hidden in him, nor does he know that he carries the stars hidden in himself and that he is the microcosm, and thus carries within him the whole firmament with all its influence."

Meaning... The answers you're seeking to some of your deepest questions about your sales career may already lie within you.

The hardest work one will do is the heart work.

The journey to self-discovery is a long and winding road. It becomes freedom for many who are willing to do the work. It's the road less traveled.

Are you ready to take the journey?

If so, then grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea, find yourself a comfy quiet place to sit... Take yourself back to 5 years ago, reflect for a moment and now push to the present...

  • Have you reached greater heights in your sales life, now?
  • Are you happier, more fulfilled and with a clearer vision, now?
  • What has changed about your sales career, now?
If you want to live a better sales life, you must learn to grow.

A true sales professional doesn't sleepwalk through the day nor their career.

Voltaire, the famous 17th century writer once wrote:

“Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers.”

I believe a fulfilling sales life isn’t determined by what you know, it is by how willing you are to learn.

One obvious way to learn is by asking questions. You do this every day without thinking about it.

Sales professionals actively and with intention think about the things they do. With an open mind they assess themselves on a regular basis. They view things through an unbiased and crystal-clear set of lenses.

Daily, they ask themselves:

  • Am I learning from my mistakes?
  • Am I constantly pushing myself, stretching the boundaries of comfort?
  • Do I still believe in my heart I can do this?

DEEP QUESTIONING... STARTS WITH LOOKING INWARD

“Going inward. That’s the real work. The solutions are not outside of us. Get to know who you really are, because as you search for the hero within, you inevitably become one.”
Emma Tiebens

Many of you already have commendable achievements in the ‘outer work’ aspect of your life.

With this I mean growth in your sales career, growth in management, leadership, or with your relationships. However, the ‘outer work’ is a small part of who we are as humans.

The key to happiness is transforming yourself and your life through inner work.

Courtney C. Stevens once said,

"If nothing changes, nothing changes. If you keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you're getting. You want change, make some."

Question becomes... What does it mean to do the inner work?

Turning inward is freaking scary!

Are you willing to open the cupboard and unpack what's on the shelves?

Doing the inner work is about shaping your emotions, beliefs, and attitudes to form or recreate a healthier and happier version of yourself.

It’s about adjusting and correcting your mindset to help you improve upon and facilitate your goals.

I believe the business world desperately needs more kind, loving, self-aware sales professionals to share their best selves.

ARE YOU WILLING TO CHANGE?

We all live in a rapidly and I mean rapidly changing world. Our marketplace has changed. Our communities have changed. Our clients have changed. Their clients have changed. Are you starting to get the picture?

Question for you... Have you changed?

It’s much easier to point fingers at something outside ourselves, it's the excuses many in sales love to dish out - (“those people, the situation or circumstance”) then to look inward and accept responsibility.

Are you willing to take responsibility for you?

As a sales community, we’re largely fixated on the outer work. We focus on the stack rankings, where we are at quarter or year to date, key performance indicators, and number of new clients... I'm sure you're starting to the get the picture.

Let's all take a step back for a moment and realize these are merely outer symbols. This does not reflect your inner world.

It becomes difficult to transform your sales career if you're unwilling to transform yourself.

I love how Dr. Yvette Erasmus talks about inner work,

"Inner work brings light, compassion and awareness to the conscious, subconscious and unconscious realms of your being. It’s about diving inward: speaking to yourself, being in connection and dialogue with yourself, seeing yourself, knowing yourself, loving yourself."

Looking inward becomes an emotional rollercoaster. It's hard, it's heart-breaking and it's surrendering yourself to the unknown.

It’s giving yourself grace to be called out, as you build yourself back up.

Self-growth happens through self-leadership.

Self-leadership is your ability to take charge of your own personal and professional development, to actively guide yourself towards growth and improvement.

It's about taking action and steering yourself towards becoming the best version of yourself.

This involves:

  • Self-reflection
  • Self-awareness
  • Self-discipline
  • Self-motivation
  • Self-development

Dr. Yvette Erasmus goes onto say,

"No matter how crappy something feels, you remember that a phoenix rises from the flames. You stay the course. That’s what it means to have courage: to feel into the things you don’t want to feel."

She shares you must be able:

  • To tolerate discomfort.
  • To challenge your own beliefs.
  • To examine your attachments.
  • To do unfamiliar and uncomfortable things.
  • To reach beyond the whims of desires of your fearful, limited, finite self.
Do you have the courage to dig in and ask yourself deep questions?

Here are some questions that will allow you to dig in:

  • What are you holding onto that’s holding you back?
  • What is my personal gift, and how can I bring it my clients?
  • What is something you do differently than anyone else you know, and why?
  • If you restarted your sales life tomorrow, what would you do differently based on what you know now?
  • In what areas do I need to develop myself to best serve my clients?

THE INNER WORKS DEFINES YOU

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence, but it comes from within. It is there all the time.”
Anna Freud

How would you define yourself?

What words would you use to describe yourself?

I encourage you to become your own Sherlock Holmes. Become interested in what grabs your attention and tugs on your heartstrings.

Please stop looking in the dictionary for words that define you.

Getting to know yourself allows you to tap into the road of happiness. This is mission critical to your success. Your beliefs, attitudes and your daily routines are essential to your sales well-being.

Understanding yourself means recognizing your shortcomings. It's about putting them on display for others to judge, critique and provide you feedback.

Yes, this means getting extremely vulnerable. This starts with looking in the mirror and saying to yourself, "This is me. This is the real me. This is who I am."

I believe this is about your willingness to ask yourself...

Who am I and who do I want to become?

What do I want for myself?

Why do I want to achieve these things? And what would it mean to me?

How can I become who I want to become? And what actions do I need to take to make this happen?

If you struggle to ask yourself deep questions, then mark my word, you will struggle to ask your clients deep questions.

GET COMFORTABLE WITH GOING INWARD

Becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable is what ferocious self-honesty is built upon.

I encourage you to think about this one...

How can you become ferociously self-honest if you struggle to deal with any discomfort in your sales life?

Those of you who are willing to take risks, step out of your comfort zone and create some discomfort, will reap the biggest rewards.

By venturing into new territories and challenging yourself, you will soon grow, learn, and achieve more than you initially thought was ever possible.

As you continue to swim in uncharted 'waters', you may just bring to the surface new skills, interests and new ways of going about your sales life.

Let this one sink in for a moment...

If YOU, can't challenge yourself to improve then how can you challenge your clients to improve?

John Simone nails it,

“The key to wisdom is knowing all the right questions.”

What questions are you asking yourself daily?

The questions you ask yourself directly affect the sales life you lead. The questions you ask yourself literally will determine what your mind focuses on, which triggers certain thoughts, actions, and inactions, ultimately affecting your sales results.

When you ask yourself empowering, deeply reflective questions, it shifts your mind to a whole new level and sets into motion the thinking and actions to jumpstart your sales life.

I will leave you all with this Maya Angelou quote,

"The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself."

The inner work allows you to bring you to life.

The inner work creates sales freedom.

The inner work creates a sense of fulfillment.

The inner work will lead you to monumental sales growth. And isn't this what you want?

Welcome to the Selling From the Heart podcast. This week we feature David Newman, CSP, Author of Do It! Selling. He talks about getting a 'selling from the heart' experience as a prospect and how these experiences should be something we should also take note of as sellers.

David dives deep into why there's such a hesitation in the prospecting process and how Do It! Selling attempts to address that and improve performance overall. If you approach it with complete integrity, transparency, and maturity, you're set up for success.

HIGHLIGHT QUOTES

They will buy if you are selling with complete alignment with who you are - David: "You can have the world's greatest tips, tactics, techniques, and if your come-from is not from the right place, you will never ever make a sale. On the other hand, you could be human, you could fumble, you could stutter, you could say the wrong thing at the wrong time, if your come from is 100% genuine, heart-centered, and real, doesn't matter what you say."

Print Solutions For The Hybrid Office Of The Future

Remote printing has always posed issues for businesses with multiple locations and satellite offices. Whether it is enforcing company-wide print standards or managing information security, the print aspect of expanding companies has always been a point of contention. Then 2020 changed the entire office landscape.

Facing widespread closures, most corporations scrambled to temporarily convert their operations to a remote-worker tolerant atmosphere. Many businesses were forced to put the issue of print management on the back burner. The idea was that closures would be short and temporary, minimizing any potential security risks as the world dealt with a global pandemic. Once everyone was back in the office, things would go back to business as usual.

The New Normal For Remote Printing

But now, after a year of working from home, many office workers are reluctant to come back to a central office. And businesses are beginning to realize the potential benefits of a hybrid structure with more work-from-home flexibility. These benefits include fewer real estate worries, happier employees, and higher productivity rates. But the positive outcomes of a hybrid workforce won’t keep IT and Finance from thinking about the vulnerabilities and costs of all of those remote offices still needing access to print services.

Concerns Over Remote Printing

Everyone knows the IT department has an iron hold on your computer. Most are learning they also control or have access to anything you do on the mobile device you use for business. This is, of course, all in the name of security. Data breaches of big names such as Experian and Target highlight the problem hackers have become. But well-known companies are not the only ones vulnerable or even targeted. Approximately 41% of small businesses have said they were hit by a data breach that cost them $50,000 or more to recover.

What you may not know is that 11% of security incidents are print-related. Over half (59%) of businesses have reported at least one print-related breach in the past year. As print industry professionals are aware, printers have become far more than simple dot-matrix ink dispensers. Laser and ink printers nowadays have small hard drives that store the documents they print.

When employees “send” something to the printer, the complete document is forwarded to the machine. Those documents are typically stored for an extended period of time, providing a lengthy history of every item that has been printed and complete access to the information contained.

Security Concerns

But an unsecured hard drive connected to the company’s network provides more than potential access to printed items. It can also create a backdoor entry into the business mainframe, which criminals can leverage to bypass firewalls and gain access to sensitive company information. With these risks so prevalent, is it any wonder that IT departments balk at an exponential number of new home offices potentially using unsecured consumer printers?

But IT isn’t the only one complaining about an influx of home office printing. Finance is likely to begin asking questions about in-office print requirements and the increase in home-office printer purchases. But perhaps the most crucial item is printer supply management. There will be concerns about company printers being used even more extensively for personal use, leading to increased paper, ink, or toner supply costs. And what about the delivery of supplies? Shipping costs on office supplies can add up quickly in a hybrid work environment.

Options For Better Hybrid Printing

IT will be the first to offer up a VPN network option for managing remote printing security. Most companies are already using VPN to allow remote work in general. Adding printers into the already existing mix seems like a no-brainer. But VPN connections for printers are often clunky to set up, and Windows printing still requires several ports to be open within the firewall. Then there is the common issue of missing print drivers on individual devices. IT will have to look forward to managing ongoing printing problems from remote employees that require them to remote in for driver updates and other configurations. And a VPN hardly resolves any issues Finance may have regarding supply, delivery, and print monitoring.

Is An MPS Partner The Right Option?

Managing the hybrid workforce printer problem

Partnering with a managed print service provider is a far better option to control both the financial and security concerns around hybrid workforce printing. Printer services can provide secure printer models with software and services configured to the needs of the business – including the home office, remote offices, and work-from-home locations.

Print service providers using managed print services platforms like PowerMPS can make corporate print management even more straightforward. These powerful tools help business partners manage their print document output and supply usage with advanced analytics that help monitor supply levels, pages printed, and more. The system also allows printer supplies to be ordered and shipped on an as-needed or subscription basis leveraging the discounts and low freight pricing managed print service suppliers enjoy.

Managing The Hybrid Workforce Print Reality

So, as the hybrid workforce comes to fast fruition, hackers are sure to pivot further toward exploiting remote workforce printer vulnerabilities. But smart businesses will be prepared by implementing secure and affordable printing solutions for their business by partnering with reputable and innovative managed print service providers.
