This Week in the Copier Industry Ten Years Ago

The Third Week of February 2017

Many times I will post my thoughts in my weekly "This Week in Copiers".

Much has been said in the last two weeks about industry transforming or diversifying away from print.  We read the captions about EV Charging,  and $35K vacuum cleaners but no one in our industry is thinking past the next five years.

Well, except for me.  Our industry is still and will be a break and fix industry which includes offering service, support, parts and consumables. Let's look and prepare for the next 10 to 30 years, let's not be short sighted and let's create our own legacy and not wait for the copier manufacturers. I believe the future evolution of office technology dealers is robotics.  They will need immediate on-site service and support, software and firmware upgrade, parts, maintenance and most important will me the management of data.

These require significantly less service/support than the Ricoh table-top machines. The opportunity to make money on these is by selling them to replace printers as part of an MPS engagement & making your money on the aftermarket. Also, if you're replacing an MP2000 machine, and the customer doesn't need 11 x 17, they would be thrilled with this machine, and you could make solid
