This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago

Last Week of August 2012

A customer was demo'ing a canon color copier with fiery in their office. I stopped by on the second day to check to see how everything was going. The office manager asked me if there was any way that images or pictures would just randomly print off the hard drive of the system. Apparently, some very explicit images had been printed on the copier right before I got there. Rightfully so she was absolutely furious. I explained that the pictures had to have been printed by someone in the office. We checked the print log on the system and sure enough she was able to identify the culprit. I ended up closing the deal and the same office manager admitted to me that she loved the image quality on the system, even the explicit pictures looked great!

(I spent a little time on this side of the camp so I have had first hand experience with Ricoh products) Of course Canon, Xerox and Konica Minolta all have their own flavor of JDF compliant workflow software. Have your analyst spend sometime with their IT and look into the capabilities of this "proprietary software." more than likely there will be many output options, as well as scripting capabilities to inject the code for simplex or duplex from either the scanning side or the software side

Sharp would get added financing from its creditors. MAY SELL TV PLANTS Like rivals Sony Corp (6758.T) and Panasonic Corp (6752.T), Sharp has been hammered by waning global TV demand and aggressive overseas competitors led by Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) that are grabbing a bigger slice of a shrinking pie. Sharp may seek to raise extra cash from its Taiwanese partner by selling it two TV assembly plants, one in Mexico and one in China, employing around 3,000 people, Sharp's spokeswoman

Moreover, the sources added, Apple Inc., Hon Hai and Sharp will collaborate to fight against South Korean dominance in the global smartphone and LCD markets". No mention of copier in future plans?

Interesting brochure. Kyocera has done some special pieces on their printers for the Healthcare market including getting certification from some of the key software suppliers, but nothing that is as slick as this is. The key of course is that the unit works as defined once it is sold.

No worries. I should have referenced this is a print job coming from a propietary program. I think I get it coming from a scan job to form one PDF. In high volume situations I can see this becoming a huge factor.

Re: PDF Printing

·
You have several issues here the number 1 issues is that PDF has no defined support for simplex or duplex inside the print stream. Although you can probably force a printer that supports printing of PDF files to run in duplex mode, you will have to add blank back pages into the PDF file in order to start on a facing page (if, for example a customer’s document is only 3 pages long). These blank backs may be annoying to a person viewing their statement, so you may need to actually keep two copies

Re: HP has $8.9B loss on expected charge for EDS flop

HP's revenue in 2011 was 127.24 Billion. Word on the street is this is just house cleaning writing down EDS and dealing with payouts from the mergers all in one fiscal year. Cant see it sending them under, funny though - a 4 Billion loss nearly/probably sends Sharp under and this while its far from ideal wont sink the mother ship!

Not so much designing products, as designing marketing materials to focus standrd fetures to a particular market. Reading the brochure, there are only two mods; a lockng paper tray (woohoo) and tray side guides that go narrower. The rest is packsging Locked Print and other features for the med market that is in a rush to implement EHR solutions, and evry vendor wants a piece of that healthcare tech spending bubble. Did they improve envelope quality? No

I've had great success with envelopes on this product. "Not so much designing products, as designing marketing materials to focus standrd fetures to a particular market." Agreed as to "not so much designing products", very similar to the Oki color laser printer that doubles as an envelope press with the right attachments. It's the sizzle that sells the steak and this product has the sizzle for the healthcare industry.
