The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

First Week of June 2006

Just eight business days before I end the halfway point for fiscal 2021.  So far June is a struggle for me with many clients either stalled or ghosting.  I realize the only way to over come the stalled ans ghosted opportunities is to go out and find more opportunities.

Enjoy these awesome copier threads from 15 years ago this week!

Savin 2824

mikefio22 (Guest) ·
I have recently installed a 2824 with a booklet finisher that has stapling on a customer's network. When I go into the printer preferences, it does not show that the MFP has stapling. I then installed SDM for client on the computer, (BUT NEVER CHANGED THE PORT TO A SDM PORT. IT IS STILL A TCP/IP PORT) and stapling shows up and works fine. I kept it like that because it worked, but it doesn't make sense to me. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know why this happens?

Does anyone know if there are limitations as to how many numbers can be registered in the LAN Fax Address Book? I think that it is limitless becauase it is a .csv file, but I am double checking... Thanks Melissa

Re: Color Cost Per Copy

This is interesting but from the Gestetner Sales Information Guide, page 21 "When printing mixed documents, only the black toner/PCU are used unitl a color page is encountered; then all four toners and developers are used for the remainder of the document, irrespective of whether they are in color or black & white". This would imply that all copies are "clicked" four times but the remainder of the paragraph says "However, subsequent black & white pages will be counted only as monochrome (1

Yes, it does. How does the printer know when to count four clicks as one. It has no way of knowing what the page looks like???? Is this somehow referring to the differences on page clicks verses development clecks. THIS REALLY PUTS INTO QUESTION HOW AFFORDABLE THE UNITS ARE TO OPERATE AND SEEMS TO GO AGAINST RICOH'S MATRA OF LOWER TCO.

I'd like to get this question answered both for print and copy. When talking about printing, you refer to meta data. Please explain meta data. I assume this is information sent with the print job to the printer. So if I send a BW or color page to the printer and have color selected in the driver, meta data is sent to the printer and all prints whether BW or color are printed as color. Therfore BW pages are printed using "proceesed black". If BW is selected in the driver.all pages print as BW

Very interesting opportunity you have. Please keep us posted. I'm sure DOT can do the job, but unless they are needing it for variable data or a forms solution it may be overkill. If R&R is running an AS400 platform Ricoh has other less costly and some free solutions for printing other than DOT. Good Luck and again please keep us posted.

Scanning Problem

·
Has anyone seen this before? I have a 240 located in an account which is currently involved in a scanning project to archive legacy documents. The volume for this project on a daily basis is very high and they run the scantools (scan to multipage file) 5-6 hours per day. Now, the problem is that they began to see blank streaks on the center left of the scanned pages which became worse and pretty much bewildered my guys until we had Ricoh come in and it was determined that the surface of the

Which print driver? If you are using RPCS you must first set the correct paper tray configuration before you have the option to staple.

The color clicks are click based on the meta data of the file not whether or not the page has color on it. You can have pages with no color printing and clicking as color if the job was sent as color and the document has the color meta data in it. At least this is how I understand it to be. Maybe JasonR has some input. He is very knowlegable on this stuff.

Re: Need to reboot after scanning lots of originals

rayzor6613 (Guest) ·
I have had alot more customers need to reboot this system moreso than the 470w. A dumb question: are they rebooting the PC daily or do they just let it go to sleep mode? Obviously, the PC needs to be rebooted to clear the cache of old print jobs and scans.

Re: 480W APS and Sort Issues

rayzor6613 (Guest) ·
I would be interested in knowing this as well. As far as additional copies on the 240w. That is a setting that has to be changed by the tech during setup. I know this because one of my demo models is set that way to simply select Start to print what was scanned in. Wallin, if you need to know how to do it, I can find out from my techs.

quote: Is there a more economical way to interface an A2022 S/P with 'RightFax' software other than GlobaLScan with the RightFax Plug in @ $500. I am dealing with a RightFax dealer replacinng his copier and wants to be able to able to demo to his prospective clients in his office the "2022/RightFax package". DID YOU EVER FIGURE THIS OUT??? CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT USING GLOBAL SCAN WITH RIGHTFAX???

Re: " RightFax"

Lee McDaniel (Guest) ·
Yes,, this was the only way to integrate the 'RightFax'with the Ricoh AF2022. The "up-side" to this is that with this configuration, (the Ricoh/RightFax combo)'ALL' of the RightFax features can be accessed from the screen of the MFP. (I'm told by the factory product managers that, at this time, the Ricoh manufacturred products are the only ones with this "full access from the display panel capability.

I would also wonder about just normal dust and grime build up. Archiving these older prints, most of my customers have had some originals that are just dirty. That whiteboard might just need cleaned? This is just a brainstorming guess on my part...based on the fact that many of customers originals are border-line filthy

EIS Quantra Wide Format MFP undeer $10K list

Art Post (Guest) ·
Sorry it took so long, however I have attached a brochure of the new Quantra from Paradigm. I saw this system and it seems like a great unit as a back up to a 240W. You can give the customer everything they need from printing, scanning and copying along with the server and software for uncer $10K. Great low volume system for where the volume is a few hundeerd LF, however the customer needs to take advanatage of scanning. Art Post
