The Week in Copiers Fifteen Years Ago

The Last Week of March 2006

Fifteen years ago I was forty-nine years old. I started the Print4Pay Hotel forum back in 2000 via an MSN communities page.  Back there there was just a handful of us that chatted back and forth about copier, speeds, feeds and the industry.  When ever anyone asks me about the Print4Pay Hotel I tell them that our members are the best of the best of our industry because they have a passion for what they do and a thirst for knowledge.  That knowledge allows us to win more, sell more and keep us sharp.

New Product Naming Scheme for Ricoh

Art Post (Guest) ·
Here are the New Product Naming Scheme on the Ricoh products. I thought that this would be helpful for all the sales reps to have. SP = Singe-Function Printer (comes from Printer Group) MP = Multi-Function Copier First two digits = Speed for MP line only C = Color SF = Scan & Fax (we are now assuming print) For example, SPC 210SF, even though it is a platen based system, it comes from the Printer Group (SP), is color enabled (C), not sure where the 210 comes from?, and is scan/fax enabled (SF

barcodes

Darth Vader (Guest) ·
In my cold calls, I found a customer that has a small Canon copier. They have developed a Unix driver for printing barcodes to this copier. He's getting ready to replace his bigger Toshiba because it won't print the barcodes. He said he might consider a Ricoh if he didn't have to re-write his driver program. We don't do Unix. Any suggestions?

Re: Job gets reset when it gets to the printer.

copier_doc (Guest) ·
Unrelated to this sort of..... If your customer sends a print job and asks for multiple sets, but only gets one. Happens because auto continue is set to Immediate and the paper size is incorrect. By default the Ricoh will only produce one set if the paper size is incorrect; even if you manually tell it what paper size to use. Auto continue stops the machine to ask what to do, but has a time out so if one job is incorrect all the jobs don't build up behind it. Therefore is it's set incorrectly

Re: Problem with WinPrint

·
Well, I've seen this error a few times. v-tec is right thtat the windows firewall on the plotbase server *can* cause this, but in the 3 instances I've seen it, that hasn't been the problem. The good news is, you can still print with this error, it is just annoying. I actually called Ricoh about this problem and they were total idiots about it. They told me they knew exactly what my problem was and would fax me the fix, I got the fax which showed what ports to disable on the firewall. Problem

Pantone color Matching

Art Post (Guest) ·
These documents were sent to me from a Ricoh DSM, thougt I would share them with everyone. Well I have spent some time putting this together and actually delivered it to one dealer so far at a sales meeting. Enclosed is a powerpoint to help with a talk track and also a "How to" for Quark Xpress. I also used some screen shots from Quark to illustrate the use of PANTONE matching. We do have to be cautious with this message, as we are still printing to a B2C engine ... but I think the greatest

work with Publisher (unfortunately). It will not color text in Office 97. A 16-bit (or higher) color display is recommended, and colors are displayed on the monitor in sRGB. Easy installation, although their help files note a small quibble with Office XP. I've had it for about three months and find it relatively useful. If you have a client in marketing who is persnickety about their Pantone colors, they will love it. But, as Docusulant cautions, what you see in print depends on the quality of

Re: 2051 duplex copy from bypass?

as far as not Ricoh not wanting heavy stock going through the duplexer, I got a phone call for a customer stating that the duplexer jammed for her every 10th copy. I went out to see it and she had 90lb. index in drawer 1. I told her it would even run one of those through the duplexer and she proceed to show me it would. Sure enough it ran 9 though and jammed on the 10th. I would not have believed it unless I saw it. It was a 1035. I asked he not to run in that way any more. JG

It sounds like the pen settings is the first culprit...I have the techs work with them, but when there was some issues with the print quality, having them adjust the pen weights fixed the problem. This was on a 470w though. Keep us updated

Re: Seeking color scanner that also has user and account code capability.

·
I'd recommend the Savin C2824 if the investment isn't too much. There are also the Savin new color mfp that is a collaboration with Brother ( a Savin CLP831 engine and a brother feeder) but I'm not sure about account codes, this is more for the SOHO environment and has a high cost of operation. Otherwise, they would need one of the ISO scan units and a CLP17 or CLP26DN, this will limit color copying capability with respect to finishing and duplexing.

Plotting accuracy on 470W

BigMac (Guest) ·
accurate while the plot is not...go figure. If the same image is rotated 90 degrees and plotted portrait on 24 x 36 Portrait...image is just fine. We have tried many, many ideas altering both what we're doing in Terra Model as well as Plotbase. The image never changes unless we alter the DX percentage in plotbase...and it is only after we move to 100.6%...and that move makes the image on the 36" edge too long. Ricoh Tech had lots of ideas but nothing really worked. The only thing we didn't do is
