A federal judge ordered a Massachusetts man to repay Xerox $6 million, after his conviction of defrauding the Norwalk-based company by reselling print toner at a profit.

Jonathan Ofstein took a plea deal last year in which he admitted to the fraud while managing toner supplies at a Vestcom International facility in South Easton, Mass., south of Boston.

Under a Xerox contract under which customers pay for toner according to the number of prints they make, Ofstein made excess purchases of toner while working for Vestcom and sold the surplus supplies to a Miami man at a retail value of $6 million.

As part of his plea deal, he received five years probation but avoided prison time. In a personal bankruptcy filing last November, Ofstein listed assets of under $50,000.
