When SMB scanning from an MFP, I believe it's necessary to set up the MFP with administrative login rights.

I'm running into a problem with a client who wants the scanning to go to their 2003 Small Business Server, but wants the password to change every week or month.

How would you guys deal with this?

The product is a Savin C2525.

Thanks for any help!

Well, alot administrators have a 30, 60, or 90 day password policy. And when you setup a SMB scanning and the file destination is located on a server, the admin usually gives you the administrator password. Well, this password policy will effect you because you used the same credentials for each entry.

They CORRECT workaround is to request a separate username and password created just for that MFP itself. And allow that newly created username and password FULL right access to the scan folder you want to send your scans to. Heck you can even give that username admin rights! Then disable that password policy for just that one particular username. ( Don't let them lie to you, it is as easy as to check a box in the user area in windows 2003).Now tell the admin to NEVER give that info out. Don't tell a soul. If no one knows that the username exists, then no one will ever try to use it, thus not a violation of security. The only person to know of this username and password is, the admin himself. And if that is problem, then themselves are a security risk and they shouldn't have access there own network. Wink

Well, other solution is to train the admin and explain every 30, 60, or 90 days that his/she must MANUALLY change each address book entry.

When he or she thinks about this, they will gladly choose option one. Unless they are simply stubborn and willing to take on the responsibility. Believe me after the first password change, they will be calling you back!Smile

I hope this helps.
