I think it was a HUGE mistake to not have HP branded machines or replacement branding kits immediately available to dealers on DAY 1. I don't want to even go there with a product that could be considered a discontinued product in a competitive situation.
If I was a competing dealer and my probing questions revealed that the customer was being proposed a Samsung unit by another dealer I would simply act surprised to hear Samsung come up and casually mention that I thought Samsung had gotten out of the copier business and wonder out loud if there would be manufacturer support down the road. It wouldn't take much of that kind of doubt in the customer's mind to get them to drop any consideration of that Samsung proposal.
That alone creates a huge problem for legacy Samsung dealers who have inventory in their warehouses.
@fisher I agree. I have already run up against competitors using that against us. Luckily I've been able to combat it by telling them something along the lines of "imagine how great it will be to get two of the worlds largest companies making technology products for your office"
It's worked so far but who knows what will happen going forward.
