We recently implemented Print Audit for meter collection and toner fulfillment. We are experiencing a problem with Ricoh monochrome MFPs not giving enough notice from toner low to toner end.  To reproduce the problem we set up an MP301 and took the toner out and proceeded to make copies.  From "toner low" to "toner depleted" it took only 50 pages.  With a 8000 page yield, this is less than 1%. Has anyone else experienced this and how are you handling it? We thought by implementing Print Audit we would have just in time toner replenishment and reduce costs and waste with sending backup toners with every MFD but this really throws a wrench in our plans.

Thanks for any feedback!

Txeagle24, The MPS ready report is not just manufacturer based it is Model based, each manufacturer has devices that report very well and very poorly. Like every other manufacturer Ricoh has

JSwinberlin, Like any SNMP device monitoring system, we are dependent on the level of detail the device manufacturer puts into the MIB structure. Some printers are very robust where they report toner Levels from 100% to 0% in 1% increments. while other only show a defined status of O.K. / Low/ Empty. Depending on how the device reports we have a notification alert that can be proactive in notifying you of a toner situation before the device runs out.  Call me in the office 1-877-412-8348 and we can take a deeper look into that device and how to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Here is what I found out about the MP301.  This device has 3 toner indications, O.K., Low, and Empty,  When the device indicates a Low toner status, a maximum of 50 pages will be produced before the machine will go empty. This is not enough time to provide real time shipments if you create a smart alert for Low toner.

There are a Smart Alerts that can be set up to help with the management of such devices.
