Xerox Phaser 7300 Is the New Speed Leader in the Office at 30 Pages Per Minute

WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2002--Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX - News) introduces the fastest workgroup color printer available today, leveraging single pass technology that transfers a full-color image to paper in one pass, instead of the four required by most traditional workgroup color printers.
The Xerox Phaser® 7300 tabloid color printer produces 30 pages per minute (ppm) in color and 37 ppm in black-and-white, with outstanding image quality for business users and a low estimated retail price of $3,499.

Designed to accelerate the transition to color in the office, the Phaser 7300 features a powerful 500 MHz processor and up to 2400 dpi resolution, producing high-quality color prints at maximum speed.

"Xerox once again is leading the market with innovation that provides customers with unprecedented color printing speeds," said Jim Miller, president, Xerox Office Printing Business. "This printer allows busy offices to produce both high-quality color and black-and-white prints in record time."

The Phaser 7300 offers advanced media capabilities including Smart Trays technology, which automatically displays the type of media available in each of the printer's paper trays, and Auto Thickness Sensor, which instinctively adjusts toner density for consistent print quality. The Phaser 7300 handles a variety of media types, including standard office paper, labels, transparencies and custom media up to 12" x 36", enabling maximum office productivity.

Fast speeds, a breadth of features and a low cost per page make the Phaser 7300 an affordable choice for medium to large-sized workgroups. Additionally, Draft Mode and Run Black features allow users to extend toner usage in order to maximize total cost of ownership.

The Phaser 7300 has comprehensive software tools that reduce time needed for set-up, installation and maintenance while further enhancing ease of use. These tools include Phaser Installer for easy set-up and simple installation, CentreWare® Web for enterprise-wide printer management and Printing Scout, which alerts busy users to low toner, low paper or other potential printing delays.

In addition to the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee, the Phaser 7300 has a one-year, free on-site service warranty. Xerox offers toll-free telephone support and online customer support. The Phaser 7300 is available through Xerox, resellers and dealers.

3) FUJI XEROX TO RECALL PRINTERS

(type: ARS Company Information)

Fuji Xerox announced that the company is recalling 259,000 printers

equipped with a faulty engine that has caused some printers to catch

fire. The printers affected by the recall are sold under the Fuji Xerox

brand name, as well as 15 other domestic manufacturers and five overseas

manufacturers. Manufacturers affected by the recall include Casio

Computer, Toshiba Corporation, Hitachi, and Fujitsu.

The fires occurred with three types of printer engines made by Fuji

Xerox and were a result of certain printer parts becoming overheated.

The engines were included in 640,000 printers sold between 1993 and 2001

as part of an original equipment manufacturer agreement. Fuji Xerox

estimates that approximately 259,000 printers containing the faulty

engine are still in use.

Fuji Xerox announced that it will replace the faulty printer parts for

free. Although Fuji Xerox did not give an estimate for the total cost

of the recall, it estimates replacement costs to reach a few thousand

yen per printer. However, Fuji Xerox did state that the company will

book an extraordinary loss of 600 million yen (US$4.8 million) for the

April-September time period due to the recall.

As a result of the recall, Brother International Corporation has issued

a recall of approximately 100,000 multi-function printers and laser

printers. Brother received two reports of the printer overheating and

fire, with one incident causing minor property damage. The recall by

Brother affects the HL-1040, HL-1050, HL-1060, and MFC-P2000 models.

Brother Japan has issued a recall of 780 faulty HL-1040 laser printers.

Brother Industries will notify its users through its Web site and major

newspapers, and will exchange the defected products for new products.
