February 4, 2014 - Designed specifically for general office scanning applications where speed, image quality and versatility are required, Kodak Alaris announces today its next generation desktop KODAK i3000 Series Scanners offering increased performance and new models which extend the range to provide both rotary and flatbed scanning in one small integrated unit. Able to scan at up to A3, four models complete the range, the KODAK i3200, i3400, i3250 and i3450 Scanners, packed with features to enhance scanning productivity and efficiency.

With a footprint of just 43cm x 37cm, Kodak i3000 Series Scanners are the most compact low volume production scanners in the Kodak Alaris portfolio designed to quickly help streamline document management processes in paper intensive industries such as healthcare, law, banking and insurance or a variety of paper dependent departments including finance, sales, operations and HR.

New Kodak i3400 scanner speed upgrade adds more value to customers

By optimising the interaction between hardware, firmware and associated drivers, the Kodak i3400 scanning speeds have been increased from 80 to 90 pages per minute at up to 300 dpi, now delivering a recommended daily volume of 20,000 pages.

Hauke Fast, Kodak Alaris' EAMER product marketing manager for document imaging, says, "We're continually looking at how to improve products to add benefit to customers. The speed improvement delivers greater value out of the box, enhances user productivity and makes the i3400 even more cost competitive compared to other products in the low volume production scanning category."

New Kodak i3250 & Kodak i3450 Scanners the most flexible A3 scanners available today with combined rotary and flatbed capability

Using the breakthrough design first seen on the workgroup KODAK i2900 scanner, Kodak Alaris has taken the concept of combining both rotary and integrated A4 flatbed and applied it to its A3 low volume production scanners with the launch of two models, the KODAK i3250 and i3450.

With speeds of up to 50 pages per minute at both 200 and 300 dpi, the duplex Kodak i3250 scanner has recommended daily volume of 15,000 pages a day in rotary mode, and comes with dual LED illumination to ensure quick scanning starts as well as exceptional image clarity and colour stability. Its higher capacity brother, the i3450, offers scanning speeds of up to 90 pages per minute and 20,000 pages per day.

Able to take on virtually any scanning challenge, both models feature an ingenious A4 book-edge flatbed scanner within the unit to allow users to easily scan the entire width of a book page with full clarity, along with magazines, passports and ID cards, torn and stapled documents and so on.

Hauke Fast explains, "The overwhelming feedback from customers is they love the small footprint of a combined all-in-one solution so our product development has very much been driven by our desire to respond to their needs in the low volume scanning segment. And our research shows that when customers actually scan exceptional items, the vast majority are A4 so buying a tethered A3 flatbed is really only for those with truly specific or unusual needs which, of course, we cater for too by offering this accessory as an optional extra."

All KODAK i3000 Series Scanners have a 250-sheet ADF which allows operators to neatly and efficiently scan mixed sized documents in one batch without wasting time continually reloading the hopper. In addition, a selectable rear-exit paper path allows the scanners to cope with thicker documents or items up to 4.1 metres long, perfect for digitising medical paperwork for example. Furthermore, a post scan imprinter is available as an accessory so that documents can be stamped with a customisable reference, date or code once processed.

Professional document capture software offered free of charge

The KODAK i3000 Series Scanners come with the latest Capture Pro Limited Edition imaging software (http://bit.ly/1dL7sFs) bundled free of charge to provide a feature rich easy-to-use batch scanning solution. This includes barcode reading, drag and drop OCR for improved indexing, full text OCR to create searchable PDFs, PDF/A support, batch separation, and direct connectivity into Microsoft SharePoint 2013.

Capture Pro Limited Edition uses the same platform as Capture Pro Software v4.5, Kodak Alaris' latest flagship scanning software suite, which enables customers to easily upgrade to the full version as they wish without having to change the user interface.

Years of Kodak scanner imaging know-how come as standard

All KODAK i3000 Series scanners come with an impressive combination of features including:

  • Intelligent Document Protection which monitors the condition of paper being scanned, 'listening' for the sound of paper crumpling and stopping the scanner automatically prior to jams occurring so that precious documents aren't damaged;

  • Perfect Page technology that automatically adjusts images without user involvement to ensure best quality scans every time, especially with mixed and low contrast documents which are difficult to scan;

  • Smart Touch functionality to start business processes, scan to various predefined locations, all without the need to even open an application on a PC.

Pricing and availability

The KODAK i3000 Series Scanners are available today with a list price of €4,995 for the i3400, €4,095 for the i3250 and €5,595 for the top of the range i3450.

All scanners in the series come with a free three-year advance unit replacement warranty[1] to guarantee performance and availability - unique in the industry for scanners in this segment - to offer total peace of mind for those users where scanning is integral in their electronic workflows.

The KODAK i3000 Series Scanners are compatible with TWAIN, ISIS-based scanning applications and support a range of operating systems including Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 [32 and 64 bit], as well as Ubuntu [LINUX]. In addition, the scanners are certified for Kofax VRS.
