Before adopting the county's $343 million 2018 spending plan Tuesday, the Niagara County Legislature approved an amendment to add $120,000 for document management software.

Information Technology Director William Flynn said the software will allow multiple county employees to access and make necessary changes to various work documents. That would create more opportunities for collaboration between county departments and improved efficiency.

"It's a collaborative work environment, so you can do things like approvals or working on documents in parallel," Flynn said. "So multiple people can be working on a document at the same time, as opposed to one person working on it and passing it off to another person."

County Manager Rick Updegrove said the county will form an ad hoc committee to identify the county's document management needs and which types of software can best meet those needs. Once that has been determined, the county will prepare to submit a request for proposals.
