PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2003--HP HPQ today introduced advanced printing systems and solutions that help customers increase productivity and reduce information technology (IT) spending.

HP now enables small businesses to bring color printing in-house more affordably with a $799(1) color laser printer; gives corporations a way to save money and use their network resources more efficiently with new HP Total Print Management offerings; and provides businesses of all sizes with multifunction products that streamline the workflow process and offer advanced printing capabilities.

"As a result of our rich business customer relationships, HP is uniquely positioned to deliver meaningful solutions, enabling them to optimize their imaging and printing environments," said George Mulhern, senior vice president, HP Imaging and Printing Group. "We're striving to be a long-term partner to companies that have the desire to expand their imaging and printing capabilities as their business needs evolve."

Helping Businesses Increase Productivity

Companies can better manage their entire printing and imaging environments using HP Total Print Management (TPM) solutions -- a combination of HP products, including Web Jetadmin, Print Server Appliance, Jetdirect, imaging and printing services, and intelligent printers.

The newest additions to the TPM offering include the HP Web Jetadmin Report Generation Plug-in and the HP Print Server Appliance 4250. The Print Server Appliance 4250 is a server dedicated to printing that can increase productivity through automatic driver distribution, spooling and print queue hosting -- for a fraction of the time and money normally spent on these activities.

Providing online reports and graphs showing printer usage, the Web Jetadmin Report Generation Plug-in is a simple, Web-based management tool for remotely installing, configuring and managing a variety of HP peripherals including the Print Server Appliance 4250, as well as non-HP network peripherals.

TPM solutions may be implemented by the customer or through a services engagement led by HP's imaging and printing services experts. As part of a services engagement, HP can analyze an organization's printing environment, design an optimized environment and implement the solution. Once the implementation is complete, customers have the option to manage it on their own or outsource it to HP.

"Businesses that proactively manage their printing infrastructures stand to reduce their overall cost of printing by 10 to 30 percent," said Peter Grant, principal analyst at Gartner, Inc. "Careful assessment of document output devices such as copiers, printers and fax machines will expose wasteful spending and help justify product upgrades, ultimately reducing overall printing costs."

Color Laser Printing More Affordable than Ever

Making color printing in the office a reality for virtually all businesses, HP has introduced the HP Color LaserJet 1500 printer series. The printer series extends quality color laser printing capabilities into the home and office at an affordable price for customers that would have traditionally relied on the outsourcing of color printing materials.

At four pages per minute (ppm) color and 16 ppm black, customers in Microsoft(R) Windows(R) or Macintosh environments can print presentations, brochures and reports in-house on a wide range of HP coated papers. The printer's desktop design and one-door access to supplies make it easy to use and maintain.

Priced from $799,(1) the HP Color LaserJet 1500 printer series features high-yield print cartridges and smart toner cartridge printing that allows customers to easily view their supplies status, in addition to offering online supplies ordering from their favorite resellers.

Greater Productivity, Affordability through Multifunctionality

Ten years ago, HP pioneered the trend toward multifunction devices with the introduction of the original HP Officejet printer/scanner/copier. Today, HP expands the range of businesses able to save money and space, while increasing productivity, by introducing two new multifunction products designed specifically for large-format printing. The HP Designjet 815 mfp integrates large-format color printing, copying and scanning in one device. The HP Designjet Scanner 4200 brings scanning and copying capabilities to existing Designjet customers.

In addition, HP introduced two new monochrome multifunction products. The HP Multifunction Finisher enables users to produce booklets and other marketing collateral in-house by adding print-finishing capabilities to their existing HP LaserJet 9000 series laser and multifunction printers.

And, for companies looking to bring high-end multifunctionality into their offices, the HP LaserJet 9000L mfp expands the 9000 mfp product line to include a 40 ppm device that provides print, copy, scan and fax functionality in a single, integrated solution.
