MELVILLE, N.Y. --

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced that it will proudly sponsor for the first time, the National Geographic Live student matinee series in Chicago, Phoenix, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles as the lead education partner. Presented by the National Geographic Society, the student matinee series of National Geographic Live is a national program of events that offers students visually spectacular presentations by leading explorers, scientists, filmmakers, authors and photographers from across the globe.

“The National Geographic Society is a well-respected organization that our parent company, Canon Inc. has developed a strong relationship with over the years,” said Bunji Yano, senior director and general manager, Corporate Communications Division, Canon U.S.A. “We chose to sponsor the student matinee series of National Geographic Live because it aligns perfectly with the educational and environmental initiatives our Company is committed to supporting.”

Established in 1999, National Geographic Live student matinees bring fresh content from the far reaches of the world directly to students in live theater settings. Student matinee topics in 2013 include discovering the ruins of the ancient Maya with archaeologist William Saturno; living with wolves by husband and wife filmmmakers Jim and Jamie Dutcher; and wildlife of the polar regions with award-winning National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen. The student matinees are open to public and private school students in grades two to 12.

National Geographic Live is delighted to have Canon's support on furthering our educational outreach in the U.S., said Dan BeauprÉ, director of education partnerships for National Geographic Live. “The passionate and unique individuals we bring to the stage have important stories and remarkable images to share with young people. They are very effective in inspiring the next generation to care about our planet.”
