Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, today announced the new Canon ScanFront 220* network scanning solution to complement the Company's award-winning line of scanning solutionsi. The ScanFront 220 is a sleek, simple-to-use network scanner delivering diverse imaging functionality in a compact networked console. The ScanFront 220 device provides the ability to preview captured images on its large touch panel, scan-to -email, -folder, -FTP and -USB memory; and takes up less desk space than most competitive modelsii.

The Canon ScanFront 220 is extending the boundaries of image capture and delivery by increasing productivity in remote workgroup and office environments. Available in Standard or Professional Edition models, the ScanFront 220 incorporates a number of innovative Canon imaging features. The device features a large 8.4-inch touch-panel control, USB port for the scan-to-USB function, personal and networked address books, as well as new security features including fingerprint identification, available only on the Professional Edition. Both models feature Canon's proprietary feed mechanism capable of scanning a wide range of the documents, including thick documents, plastic cards, and driver licenses.

"The Canon ScanFront 220 stands at the forefront of scanning innovation, delivering a range of convenient features to satisfy real-world needs in one of the most practical and easy-to-use devices we have seen," said Mark Machida, director, Image Filing Systems Division, Canon U.S.A. "With the proliferation of digital imaging workflows in the office, convenient devices such as the ScanFront 220 will significantly enhance business practices by ensuring quality and security."

The large 8.4-inch color touch panel control on the Canon ScanFront 220 device allows users to easily navigate through functions as well as preview scanned images to ensure proper content is captured before sending. Scanning at up to 25 pages-per-minute (ppm) or 50 images-per-minute (ipm) letter-sized documents, the ScanFront 220 captures color, grayscale and black and white images in various file formats including high compression PDF, searchable PDF, TIFF and JPEG

The ScanFront 220 allows system administrators to remotely register individual users to the device and assign each user with specific functionality. This enables IT Network Administrators to remotely connect to and centrally manage entire fleets of ScanFront 220 devices through the network.

Security At Your Fingertips
Both the Standard and Professional Edition models offer user authentication via user ID and password while the Professional edition models includes a fingerprint authentication sensor to prevent unauthorized use of the device. Additional security features of the Canon ScanFront 220 include encrypted PDF sending for secure transmissions and a save log to track outgoing transmissions complete with saved copy of the cover page as well. The device also has a secure memory wipe function to prevent the leak of classified information that could reside on the device. Also, each user on the ScanFront 220 has a defined "From Address" which is not changeable to prevent spoofed e-mails being sent from the device. Both models provide network security through NTLM V2 protocol and Kerberos network protocol used to identify and authenticate clients connecting to servers.

The new Canon ScanFront 220 will be on display at the Canon booth #1400 during the AIIM On Demand Conference and Expo in Boston, April 17-19, 2007, and will be available through authorized Canon dealers, select distributors, and Canon resellers.
