The Ricoh Pro C9110 will boost Abbey Marketing Communications' efficiency

The Ricoh device was installed at the Great Dunmow, Essex-based direct mail and plastic card processing specialist’s 790sqm premises around three weeks ago. The firm has been using the GMC software for around two months.

The Pro C9110 has a maximum recommended monthly volume of 1 million A4 pages and a print speed of 130ppm. The device supports media up to 400gsm in both simplex and duplex.

The firm considered a range of alternatives but director Paul Brett said the Ricoh was picked due to its high-quality and competitive click rate.

“It’s an additional machine that will increase our speed and therefore our capacity and efficiency,” said Brett.

“It’s also given us the opportunity to do some different formats. It does a 700mm sheet, which sets us aside from an SRA3-type colour digital printer and allows us to offer our customers more out of the norm formats for direct mail.”

The business also operates a range of Canon OcÉ, Heidelberg and Konica Minolta litho and digital machines, NBS D-40 thermal printers for plastic card printing and a range of finishing equipment.

The company said the investment in the GMC Inspire document composition software will bring new innovation to the firm’s production facilities.

“Not only will we now be able to receive files directly from clients and output them to our sheetfed mono and full-colour digital laser systems but we will also be able to push GMC files and PDFs directly to our fast continuous mono laser print lines,” said Brett.

“These still prove incredibly economical for mid- to large-volume direct mail and charity style communications.”

Abbey Marketing Communications has 22 staff and a turnover of £2.5m. It provides direct mail processing, plastic card processing, loyalty/membership scheme management and colour digital print services to retailers, associations, clubs and professional bodies.
