Roger that, DOC...Putting in a new Drum, main charge wire (just clean the Grids and Transfer/Seperation wires), and Cleaning blade is required. ALSO...pop in a new Fuser Cleaning Roller to extend the life of the Hot Roller. Also check/clean or replace the thermistors (2) for toner build up as long as you have the fuser section out.
Some people forget, but 2 Bags of Developer 30W are necessary.
Do this and you should have really nice copy quality.
As far as the Scanning dark is concerned, I would attack that problem after I know my machine is up to par.
Good luck!!! Call if you need some additional info.

Thanks Doc & Greg,

A new charge was strung @ 50K. I used 2 bags of developer and cleaned the charge assy. I have a new drum on order.

I have a feeling the new drum will take care of the light background on the left side when printing from files, However, I have a feeling the heavy background when scanning originals is a seperate issue.
I dont see background when scanning to PC, however, replaced the drum and heavy background still exist.

If this was an older analog Ricoh (700 series or 870) I would try adjusting the lamp setting (light sensor adjustment) in Severice Mode # -12. I can not find a lamp setting adjustment on this unit.
I've had a similar problem for sometime now. I've replaced drums, developer, corona wires, cleaning blades, adjusted charge voltage, replaced hot roller cleaning roller. All of these will reduce the background a little, but not get rid of it completely. In my case, the background is very light, and uniform across the entire page. This background occurs on copies and prints, not on scans.

I had the (former) Ricoh Tech Service Manager for my region out on site with me one day (we're a reseller), and he had no idea what caused it, but also really seemed to have no interest in figuring it out (he's since been replaced).
I'm really hoping not. I was amazed at his lack of professionalism, from the minute he walked in he was putting down Ricoh! His company! I was surprised to hear someone in his position tell me that he was living for the weekend, so he could play his drums. We also discovered a few months down the road that he didn't process some paperwork correctly, and Ricoh was trying to charge us for an extra machine because of it.
