Re: 57 Days of Selling "Day 44"

Jason H ·
Love it Art! I had a day of running around with a networking luncheon followed by a training for a new device that I sold earlier in the month and stole from Sharp. I was extremely late to the party with this deal but they already had a canon that was very old and decided they wanted another canon and on top of that wanted someone to deal with local over Sharp and Ricoh direct. Then I was walking into the grocery store on the way home and got a call from a person I quoted a machine to about...

In 10 years there WILL be outside sales reps, and many of them will be the committed, true professionals of today. The E-Commence platform have changed our business and how we do it. For example gone are the days when you could duck into a 15 story office building and cold call. But electronic format can still be your attention getter and facilitate your efforts in creating interest. I can buy anything on line and cut out the sales person. We install to the customers server, I build in 3 hours of pro services and then bundle the entire cost in the system. My selling advantage is that with my system you can browse to folder from the MFP easily. Art

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. Use a router to create a mini wireless network where the copier is the only thing connected. Velcro the router to the back of the copier. Name the router's wireless Copier. Plug router into copier with patch cable. You can get a wireless router on-line for less than $20 these days.

I have one of these in the P4P market, after 4 months all seems well and customer is satisfied with media offereing and quality. The one thing that has changed for this unit, since its the same engine as the MPC6000 and MPC7000 is that default from the factory is 11x17 single click and lower consumable costs. Making an inroad will depend on how dealers will position this unit, dealers more than ever can now be competitive with single click 11x17, and if you're going to play in the P4P you...

5050: Search the internet for "GBC Pro Click" and you should see a very, very similar example. Advantage of this binding is the ability to re-open and change/insert/delete previously bound pages from the "book". I don't like the resulting bind as much as I do the GBC Comb (Cerlok) Binding but the "Pro Click" bind is a finished set when removed from the device.

Over my 15 years as a Sales Manager to 23+ independent dealers, I have seen many situations where dealers simply has far too simplistic service contracts that had not been updated ever. They mostly involve billable Pro Services, unstable Power Supply, two competitive vendors trying to flip each other's Service Contracts and Fuel Surcharges. Re: Wireless Printing to a LAN port on a Ricoh 4420NF (Savin 3760NF)

JasonR ·
Answers to the questions I think are in there: Yes, you can wirelessly print to a 4420 with a wireless card, as long as the home has wireless. The router does not act as a server, it acts as a router. It will take the print job from the PC and "route" it to the printer, as long as you configure them both to be on the same network/IP scheme and print to that IP. Do you need a wireless print server? Well, the answer to that is "no" if you have a wireless card in the 4420 and "yes" if you not.

Thanks very much and LOL about the paragraphs, you are right about that! So if I am understanding this correctly, I need to put the wireless print server next to the 4420NF and run a short CAT5 cable to it? I then can input an IP address into the 4420NF and tell the printer driver what it is. Or maybe it will assign one automatically under DHCP? I would then find it on the 4420NF and input that when settin up the driver? LAstly, do I need to do anything with the router if I use the wireless...

Re: Wireless Printing to a LAN port on a Ricoh 4420NF (Savin 3760NF)

Correct, short CAT5 cable from printer to wireless print server. Best to put in a static IP into the machine, otherwise, you'd have to print to the hostname of the printer and have something doing local DNS to map it from the name to the ever-changing IP. You shouldn't need to do anything at all with the router. Just make sure your IP for the printer is in the same range as the PC. for example, the PC's IP is 192.168.1.1, you could make the printer 192.168.1.44 For small home networks, it's...

Re: MFP Losing IP address

JasonR ·
Is it a static IP address or Dynamic? If it is a static IP, I do not see any way that rebooting the server or workstation could affect the IP programmed in the machine. Even if there's a conflict, the machine would still have the IP. Also, if it's static, there is nothing the switch/model/router could have to do with the IP address. If it's dynamic, then the device providing the IP could have an issue. In this case, I can't say if that's the server/modem/router. Honestly, the most likely...

Re: MFP Losing IP address

montecore ·
Art....looks like you found the culprit. My guess the modem was fine but the router would be what I would check. Usually once the IP on the MFP is set this will not change and should not zero out. What may be happening is you might be using a switch instead of a router...then your internet provider is using more intelligent DHCP servers that reset the IP address every 4 to 6 hours. Installing router will create an internal network with 192.168.xxx.xxx behind the firewall. I just did this...

I think the local dealers biggest advantage against the National vendors is flexibility. Dealers naturally have much shorter chains of command due to having far less employees. Re: MFP Losing IP address

JasonR ·
I'm guessing he was using a dynamic IP address which means the issue wasn't the machine "losing" it's IP, but the router reassigning a bad IP (000.000.000.000). If a static IP was set in the MFP, the router being bad would not wipe out the IP address, but since the MFP was depending upon the router to provide the address, it had to take whatever the router provided, which was sometimes nothing.

My rule is, if they need more training, or something wrong or inconvenient with the way I set up the print scan, I'll make it right, no charge. If they add a workstation and want it configured,if they changed their router/switch, decide (after 60 days or so) they need a different configuration, or some O/S related problem, that is chargeable. A case in point, a customer called me saying his can scan to folder icon has disappeared from his desktop. I suggested that the cleanup wizard has...
