Why Does the Pratice of "Skating" Copiers Still Exist? Who Wins Who Loses
Earlier today I had a call from another rep that works with me. He was pretty upset that a client was able to find the same MP 3555SP for sale on the web for $300 or so dollars under his sales cost. What even bothered him more was that the reseller was not an Authorized reseller for Ricoh, nor Canon. Which leads me to who is this web company buying the new MP 3555SP from? That web company (non authorized reseller) is buying the MP 3555SP from an Authorized Dealer. Most if not all dealer...

Re: Are Any Dealers Actually Selling Manufacturer Software/Solutions?
We sell Uniflow from canon and that is about all. I use the term "sell" loosely as we are not very good at software sales so we do a couple uniflow deals here and there. Other than that we use Square9 and thats about all.

Art, one follow up question. Did you start selling DocuWare more in the last 6 months since Ricoh acquired it or have you been successfully selling it all along?

I pretty much sell Kyocera Pinpoint Scan software on almost every machine. It’s cheap and it’s a great scanning solution that adds value.

Re: Thoughts on Manufacturer' App Platforms
Ricoh ICE, selling maybe to 10% of my clients. I mention it to every account, however in most cases I met with "what is scanning to the cloud". I then have to make mention of dropbox, google drive, box, MS365 or ask what they use. There's nothing I don't like about the app, it has a decent price point. On a 5 year lease I need to include 5 years Maintenance along with the cost of the app. Personally I wish there was a monthly commission that could be generated to the sales person. The real...

Re: Thoughts on Manufacturer' App Platforms
I see them as fluff for the most part. I explain what they are on most demos. I've also set up Ricoh's free 60 day trials for a number of accounts but I've never had a single customer spend the money to pay for it and keep it. Take a look at your smart phone. Nearly every app I've ever used is a free app. The apps are easy to set up. I do not pay extra for apps monthly and I certainly don't have to go to the Verizon store to get the app installed, set-up by their techs. The Verizon store...

Re: Thoughts on Manufacturer' App Platforms
MFP apps are going to change drastically in the next few years, with Security at top of mind we are going to see allot more restrictions around what you can do with them. I bet allot of the cloud connector apps will have to go through a tighter certification and Audit process. Also just heard that Ricoh is laying off a bunch of staff from their RIDP ISV support team, Ricoh may be looking to eliminate a bunch of 3rd party software apps from the program even revoking access to their Software...

Re: Why Does the Pratice of "Skating" Copiers Still Exist? Who Wins Who Loses
Manufacturer and the non-authorized reseller are the winners. And I believe that because everyone gets paid when a box moves, nothing will change and its going to get much worse. A couple years back one manufacturer opened up their entire product line to distribution (85ppm A3). I'm a dealer of the products and compete against non-authorized sellers and the internet often. My advice is to prepare yourself for the conversation in advance. Be ready to talk to the customer about why you should...

The Imaging Channel's Changing Business Model Must be Profit Over Revenue
"Regardless of industry, those who have participated in an obsessional quest for revenue regardless of disciplines towards profits will eventually find themselves without adequate liquidity." Unfortunately, it does seem as some are still desperately chasing revenue over the importance of profit. There has never in the history of the Imaging Channel been a more critical time than now to control cost by aligning all the industry's business processes to the realities of the marketplace. Nearly...

Metro Fuser. I had some problems with their rebuilt HP 4501 Fusers though. When they rebuild them they do not replace the old one. That is not good. They fail due to this sometimes. I complained but was told tough luck in so many words.
