I learned today that while a Xerox copier is processing a Searchable PDF, the engine is not available for any other task. Long complicated PDFs can knock the Xerox completely out of action for many minutes until the OCR task is completed.

When Ricoh came in to launch the MP 2353/2852/3353 we were told the same thing. However, there is nothing in print including the Competitive Zone which is supposed to be the results of testing everything.

No, only Autodesk software can print a dwg. If they publish it to a PLT, PDF or tif it can print it. A dwg is not a finished file.

If the customer does not AutoCAD we load Truview on there workstation. It is a free software from Autodesk and will print dwg's through the windows driver.

this is the email I received from my customer: I was just informed by others that the Plot Works software that you have included in our deal, does not work with DWG files. As you know, we typically print from DWG files directly from AutoCad and not the DWF files that the software supports. I’m told that there is other software needed to allow DWG files to print.

The Old 480 dwg option was just a file converter, it would leave the old file on the server and the customer would call in with complaints that it was coming up with out of memory errors because it kept all the old files on the server and not delete them, at least that was our experience. I guess I'm confused as to why the customer is not just printing the dwg files out of AutoCAD with the AutoCAD driver and all the rest of his files with Plotworks.

k, so I guess what you are telling me is that the customer can print the DWG through autocad with the autocad print driver?

Sure, now granted it's been a while sense I've install the Ricoh one but it just installed in the "add a plotter" wizard within AutoCAD. The wizard is found in the plotter manager area within AutoCAD.

Jeff: No yellow highlights here, however I did correct a few things and thanx for the heads up. As far as misspelled words, yup I going to have them every now and then. I try to make sure there are none, but there are times when many slip through. I'll try and do a better job, as far as grammar.... well, that's another story. When you work full time selling copiers and devote three hours a night to the web site every night, I do tend to get weary. Appreciate your comments.

I read this thread with great interest but am doing pretty much everything already listed. My problem is in finding a customer who NEEDS a new solution. Our Savin line (Ricoh) do not wear out! Our dealer supports our machines for as long as we can get parts so I have equipment which has been in the field for 8-10 years and can't get them to upgrade. Why should they? If it ain't broke! Then there is no loyalty anymore and when some decide to buy new they go the cheapo route and get a Kyocera

What are the best options to getting around an "evergreen" clause in a prospects lease contract? Specifically, if the clause renews the contract for 1 full year & they missed the timeframe to provide written notice to cancel? Is the prospect obligated to make every payment? Is there a way for me to win the business without having to refinance that full year of "evergreen" payments into the new lease? Your input would be appreciated. --Garrett

It's target Average Monthly Volume is almost 1,200 LF per month, so you should be fine. Hopefully, their page page coverage is low, because those print heads and ink add up quickly.

I suspect Sharp probably uses the business year that ends in March 2013 as their FY2013 4th quarter. Slide 19 is most related to the copier business. It does not indicate that they are doing great but I would not expect that neither are most copier vendors. Generally, Sharp's financial health has improved considerably.

Just another thought, do your sales people do site audits? if so something like In-Map might be worth considering (especially if you use FM Audit etc for a Data source ) http://www.in-map.com/Pages/Ac...n.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f Personally I just carry a very small form factor laptop as there are some shortfalls to tablets in terms of what they can run and our back end systems, file access etc and cost isn't so much of an issue

Much of what's requested can be accomplished with a smart phone. I still keep a laptop in my car for its keyboard and because it has Ethernet and USB ports which are very valuable when you are in a customer's office doing an evaluation or troubleshooting printing or scanning problems.

SharePoint of course. NSi, eCopy or PlanetPress all have connectors from/for MFPs. Starting to dabble in Docuware. I believe they are using an NSi derivative for MFP connectivity.

In my opinion, in most cases, the shorter term lease only benefits the salesman, not the customer or the dealership. A lot of the savings you are talking about would only be true if the customer does a 36 month lease and stops but normally as you discuss they don't stop the have a payment for life, it's just a question of how often they refresh their equipment. The shorter term lease does give the customer the benefit of newer equipment sooner but make no mistake, they do pay more for that.

Agreed, 36 month lease is best for the sales person! But isn't that why work in this crazy business? if someone told me that I could only sell 60 month leases then I would be hard pressed to continue in this business. However, selling the 36 month payment FIRST, allows you to drop the cost of the payments by increasing the length of the payments. Therefor we can reduce the cost of the equipment rather than discounting the equipment. Discounting the equipment hurts the rep, and the dealer.

If you look at my leases you'd see the vast majority are 48 months or less. Second if your customer shops you when you are trying to upgrade them early you could be toast. these numbers. I would encourage all dealer principles to do a portfolio analysis to see the reasons why for their company. For sales people - look at your comp plan and find the way to maximizes your compensation. Budget constraints sometimes requires a longer term, that's a given. What is true for cars does not always equate to this industry. I don't know about the sales process but as far as service goes customers are happier that get 36 month leases. The ones that go for 5 years often are calling way too often because their machines were shot a year ago. Pre ikon merge we had a lot of 36 month leases but now it seems like most are 60.

Speaking from the leasing company perspective - the 60 month lease is the preferred term today. 8-10 years ago it was 36 months. From my review of dealer portfolios and speaking with dealership principals, the 60 month lease is the most profitable lease term to the dealership - in terms of equipment funding and service revenue. I will write an email to the Governor, but suggest the likes of HP, Epson, Canon, Xerox, Lexmark, Ricoh, Brotherneed to take a Corporate stance if they haven't done so already.

FYI: Toshiba, overall, is in the top ten for RD Spend-to-Sales ratios. "Bottom dweller" really is not a fair use of words. With any device manufacturer, product is only as good as its dealer support. Get references if need be. RE: maintenance; The asker is talking BW devices not color. Regardless, get the maintenance. Fewer spikes in copy quality or hardware issues because you'll make that phone call to fix rather than putting up with poor copy quality, etc. for fear of how much it might cost

While they may have a good ratio of RD to sales ratio, the volume of dollars they spend on RD on their MFD's are rather small in comparison to the top four - and it shows in the reflection of market share and acceptance on a corporate purchasing level. My point is not to brow beat or denigrate - it is simply this. Acknowledge the truth of your product and don't try to make it something it isn't or others will mostly likely know it and tag you as just a salesman

Could agree more to the cold calling as well as the planning and preparation. I can send an intro letter in the mail, but if I take it to the reception desk to personally deliver, chances improve. A planned segment of cold calling/hot knocks along with a few scheduled appts makes for a good day. That cold call is your first impression and make the reception person or initial contact a VITO!

More info...we can reproduce this problem from http://www.newyorklife.com/products/life-insurance/ When printing to a Savin C4040 (and others) using the PCL5 or 6 the print job either doesn't print and hangs at the MFP or on other products throws an SC899. This does not happen when using the PostScript driver. We have an HPLJ4000 and it prints fine. This has been reprocuced from IE8 and 9. I'm going to put in a ticket with Ricoh, but I can't believe no one has seen it. We have several

The best system we have is the Canon ImageWare Remote which no matter where the device is placed on the network. This works as long as the necessary ports are open. Which we have seen them to be open in all but the most secure networks, The other systems we use, UniFLOW, PrintFleet, ImageWARE EMC all work OK being the customer's firewall, but require us to setup a subnet or sometimes specific IP Addresses for these to get accurate meter reads. The problem is that networks are very rarely static

Yeti, When you have a one size fits all, take it or leave it solution you will often get a "no thank you" response from your more secure customers (Finance, Health Care, Etc.). Customers like options! Hell, I like options! Our first choice for automating meter reads is Canon's ImageWARE Remote (for the reasons described above), Our second choice is PrintFleet, the DCA software can be configured for subnets to be scanned, and it automatically reports the meter reads to a Server in the cloud

Sorry, I meant to say a mix of A4 and Legal size documents. I agree most copiers should be able to do mixed size originals with a combo of A3/A4 and Letter-R/Legal. The problem I am having and I do not think it can be done is one of a mix of A4 and legal mixing North American and European sized paper in the same document. This is because the two paper sizes are of different widths.

Fax forward to email using a Fax 4430NF

A major account of mine bought two Fax 4430NF's thinking they would be able to have faxes forward to email like their MFP's do. Fortunately, they got the faxes from their computer supplier so I am not on the hook but I would like to help them if I can. Since most have not looked at a stand-alone fax brochure for years let me review...The 4430NF has network print, LAN fax, and color scan including scan to email but does not forward incoming faxes. Any ideas?

first appointment you were allowed to sit down!!! Try doing that today. Golly, delivering your own systems was the worst, especially when the systems started to get bigger and faster. I can attribute much of the back pain I have today to getting quite a few copiers up, not one, nut two flights of stairs. Agreed that this looks very much like an Android. I'm surprised how fast the panel swipe is. Ricoh has definitely improved the ease of use. Do you think MFP's will soon come installed with Windows or Mac operating systems to become another workgroup computer in the office with print/scan capabilities? Seeing this Ricoh makes me think that is coming in a few years.
